Heh, to tell you guys the truth, while the Goku/Freeza battle definitely dragged on, I loved every minute of it. And dammit, this is the battle that Bardock foresaw way back when, shouldn't it be this epic? From Goku's first deflecting of 1% Freeza's death beam-blips to SSJ Goku defeating 100% Freeza with one last blast of rage, it's just one big roller-coaster. I do have to say though, the episode where Freeza actually launches his Death Ball at Namek for its destruction, Goku and Freeza don't land ONE hit/blast/whatever on each other. There's a little moment where they collide their auras in some bizarre way that causes sparks and the very end of the episode when they actually charge each other, but NO real action! Now THAT was an example of dragging on. >_>;;Rocketman wrote:If the stretching out make the battle more dramatic, it'd be ok.
But, since most of the added time is Goku and Freeza gazing into each others' eyes and/or recapping things that happened (supposedly) less than two minutes ago...
Was the Goku vs Freeza battle really that dragged out?

God yeah, it was dragged out. I mean, it's understandable that it was dragged on in the Manga, because as Jermyn said, it was intended to be the final showdown between the greatest beings in the universe...but by the time the Anime version was produced, wasn't it after Toei already got Toriyama-Sensei to commit to making more? I mean, the Anime dragged the fight on even longer than necessary, and between that and the lame Garlic Jr. filler that directly followed...
And don't even get me started on the whole "5 minutes" thing...><
Ugh, definately not my personal favorite point in the series, that's for sure.

By the way, I'm still waiting for actual evidence that Toriyama first intended to end the series with the fight against Freeza. ^^;Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:God yeah, it was dragged out. 'Not saying I believe that's not the case. It's just that I think it's speculation.

The battle was totally draged out, but I really love this because of the extra backround on Bardock and other saiyans like King Vegeta and such.
You also see what they are fight for if anyone understands...
This also shows the difference betwwen Goku and Frieza, Goku wants to protect the universe and the people he loves and then Frieza who feels it is his born right to be emortal space tyrant! But of course this what we anime fans live for, the storys and or back story that makes up the character! In conclution these draged out fights or stairing matches are fun in the way they explain things we do not understand!

Well, there's a difference between something being dragged out and the conclusion of a series. I'm sure you've heard by now that the series could've ended with Freeza. Mabye the whole "five minute" battle was dragged out to make it so epic. Calling Goku the legendary super saiyan and having him defeat the strongest being in the universe (at the time) doesn't hurt either. Don't mean to get on your back so early ssjBardock/duck, but your avatar is a bit big.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Oh your thats ok, I've been around the block!
Yeah total! I left that out, sorry. It would be the best to me to end this series in this way.
By the way I started watching Dragonball Z in 1995 or 1996. I was in Denmark DBZ come there faster! For example we have Daizenshuus there!
It's great!
