We need a 2.5D DBZ game!
I think I'm not the only one who says that we absolutely need DBZ games to go back to 2.5D.
This game could be done to attract both the casual and competitive players, much like Call of Duty does, it should be easy to learn but hard to master.
For the ones saying it wouldn't be profitable here's some facts:
• Burst Limit, which was the last one we got in 2.5D, is the top selling HD DBZ game for the first week. No game has sold like it in the first week since it was released, not even XV. Then reviews destroyed its interest, especially considering its story mode could be completed in few hours. What attracted that many people? Who knows. Maybe 2.5D gameplay and its graphics, or maybe BT3's success or the fact it was the first HD DBZ game ever released.
• Hype because it's been 7 years we haven't had a 2.5D styled DBZ game. Many people would buy it.
• Can be played competitively unlike 3D games, plus it is more fun to watch especially if played at high levels. 2.5D DBZ games don't have spamming and running issues.
• Better graphics. 2.5D games have always had better graphics because there is less to render on the screen. To this day, I still think Burst Limit has better graphics than Xenoverse. If a 2008 rushed game can still compare to a 2015 game that's out on new gen consoles, than I could be right saying 2.5D games can indeed potentially look MUCH better than 3D ones.
• Also let's not forget about Hyper Dragon Ball Z, a 2D DBZ game made on Mugen that has attracted many fans, this means there is still a lot of interest in 2/2.5D DBZ games!
Here's the link to a petition to bring back Budokai 4 or Burst Limit 2
Here's the link for my thread about Budokai 4 or Burst Limit 2 ideas
What do you think? Would you want DBZ games to go back to 2.5D gameplay, even just once?
*Obviously for PS4, Xbox One and PC (old-gen too if possible). I know there is some new DBZ 2D game on 3DS but it's not what I'm talking about.*

I'd certainly love for another 2.5D Dragon Ball game. But only if the original Dragon Ball characters and story get some love.

We basically just had this topic.
But no, I don't really want one unless it only covers Pilaf - Piccolo Jr. material. Maybe Radtiz as a secret boss/unlockable.

I'd also like it to cover some of original Dragon Ball, but please explain why not also having DBZ?

You would only want one if it covered that? You'd deny a whole game that isn't the yearly 3D material because of that?TheDevilsCorpse wrote:We basically just had this topic.

Could've swore Xenoverse sold more than Burst Limit. A new Budokai game would be nice though.
I think TheDevilsCorpse is just saying there's been enough 2.5D games that cover DBZ, and Dragon Ball should have a game for itself.TheGameTagerZ wrote:You would only want one if it covered that? Couldn't the same be said for 3D fighters? When was the last fighter to even cover Dragon Ball? Tenkaichi 3? That was 8 years ago.Shinnin wrote:Could've swore Xenoverse sold more than Burst Limit. A new Budokai game would be nice though.

Re: We need a 2.5D DBZ game!
You're right, it has been a while. I really don't care whether the game's 2.5D or 3D (hell, they could get Dimps to try that 5D thing they're doing with School of Ragnarok for it), but I do think Dragon Ball should have its own game so the developers can cover the story properly. Recently the games haven't even been doing the Buu Saga entirely so I doubt DB's story would even be covered if it was added to a DBZ.

If my research is correct, Xenoverse sold more in the first 2 months (2 million) than Burst Limit did in half a year (730,000).

- My bad, I wanted to mean another thing, I will edit OP.
- Many people would look at it as just another DBZ game, true. Those are the casuals, and they are attracted by good graphics and great competitive multiplayer. Usually everyone buying a DBZ game has at least bought a DBZ game at some point in his life. Maybe many people seeing Budokai 4 would instantly buy it because they would remember of Budokai 3, which had an huge success.
- Well DBZ has some problems with 3D games: spamming and running away are the biggest ones and would make it boring to watch because those tactics actually work. High level Budokai 3 is boring as shit but Burst Limit is better plus we are in GODDAMN 2015 they could actually improve it A LOT. Burst Limit just had some spam issues because of whoever thought of that fucked up Ki system. The rest was fine. Budokai 3 had some combos that couldn't be stopped so it wasn't good. I haven't played Infinite World but I heard that game had Burst Limit and Budokai 3 mixed for the better.
- Well man... not really subjective. If you are going to claim RB2 or BoZ are better than Burst Limit graphically, you are going to be making fun of yourself. And BoZ dates 2014, while BL 2008. Only games that could rival it are Ultimate Tenkaichi which somebody prefers but I don't because if you want to go Manga then go black and white lol, it made no sense to me to try replicating the Manga feel, especially when almost everyone is more familiar with the anime - and Xenoverse, which looks too shiny anyway and it is made by Dimps, they made Burst Limit so it's expected they could reach its level. Again, Xenoverse is a 2015 game and is also on PS4, X1 and PC, it SHOULD look better than a 2008 game. This proves 2.5D games can have better graphics because less things going on-screen etc...
- I consider hard to master cancel combos and shit Budokai games had that took players years to fully understand.
- There we agree!

Re: We need a 2.5D DBZ game!
It's my opinion. I don't want a Z 2D or 2.5D fighter anymore. I don't want Tekken with DBZ skins. That's not the best way to represent that portion of the series to me. If we get one? Great. I hope the people who wanted one enjoy it, but I won't. Dragon Ball's first half on the other hand has a huge focus on physical martial arts rather than flying around shooting ki and it would work great to capture the feel. Especially since it had 4 tournaments, less characters and transformations, and combat styles that could be truly unique. Opposite that, I don't really want Dragon Ball era characters in my 3D fighters, because that's not a great representation of the type of combat depicted at that time of the series. Am I going to complain that the developers are ruining the game if they put DB characters in another 3D game? No, that would be stupid. But it still doesn't change my opinion on them not fitting as well.Shinnin wrote:I think TheDevilsCorpse is just saying there's been enough 2.5D games that cover DBZ, and Dragon Ball should have a game for itself.TheGameTagerZ wrote:You would only want one if it covered that? I buy Dragon Ball games because I want to recreate the feel of battles of the series while I'm playing...not just DBZGT characters in whatever type of combat engine we're given. If I want to play something like Tekken, I'll just play Tekken.

Very narrow minded and ignorant way to view 2D fighters by comparing them to Tekken skins especially since not every 2D fighter plays like Tekken. None of the Budokai games played like Tekken either. Sure you can't fly around and there isn't 3-4 buttons dedicated to flying, camera and lock on but that limitation is actually a good thing since those buttons can be used for other attacks.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:It's my opinion. I've noticed that generally the people who complain about 2D games (not directing at you) aren't good at them because they're usually not beginner friendly. It's not the BEST way to represent the series, but how long are we going to have 3D games until everyone realizes how stale the experience is? I remember at one point we had Budokai and Tenkaichi games at the same time which gave some variety so that either side didn't feel as stale as it is now.

Re: We need a 2.5D DBZ game!
Yeah, there can be one, but I don't think it's an necessity honestly. Plus the Budokai/FGC fanboys are really starting to make me wish that NB won't do one at all, cuz of how annoying and dismissive they are. I understand their complaints, but if NB ain't making one, move on to something else, there are MANY current fighters out there. And yes, the Tenkaichi fanboys are annoying too, I know! What this franchise needs is another action/adventure game like Sagas, just reboot it, improve the mechanics, then it's golden.
But since we're talking about fighting games, I'd imagine a trilogy. A spiritual successor of Budokai with a little mixture of Super DBZ. First game based on Dragon Ball, Second game based on most of Z(Saiyan to Cell), and the third and last one, I'd like it mostly based on the new generation, so switch up the Buu saga and GT. Rosters in spoiler. Also have transformations as power-ups with mildly different movesets.

Re: We need a 2.5D DBZ game!
I'm not being narrow minded and ignorant. It's a generalization, sure, but I still stand by the point. I grew up with Tekken, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom, etc. None of the of 2D type of fighters I've played have ever given me the experience I'm personally looking for from a DBZ era game, and that includes the actual DBZ games like Budokai, Shin Budokai, Burst Limit and Super DBZ. Are they good games? Most of them. I'm not debating that, but it's not what I want anymore.TheGameTagerZ wrote:Very narrow minded and ignorant way to view 2D fighters by comparing them to Tekken skins especially since not every 2D fighter plays like Tekken. I feel like most of the times I have this conversation, people focus on only the one aspect and take it personally. Like I'm attacking them directly by having an opinion of my own. I'm sorry, but these threads are asking for the opinions of the posters and I don't want the things I don't want. It's not what I enjoy and thus I won't spend my money on them when I have other stuff I can use it on. As I've already mentioned though, and continue to mention, I'm in no way saying the fans who want games like this shouldn't have them. This is all just the opinion of me, myself and I. If you can convince Bandai Namco to give you guys a 2D fighter to break up the monotony and help pacify the "debates" (and I'm using that term loosely, because they can get nasty sometimes), honestly, more power to you. All fans should have games they can enjoy. Though it seems like that part of my post is often ignored, just to tell me my opinion is wrong and ruining the franchise. (This last paragraph isn't directed at anyone, just premature venting because I get so tired of the subject.)
Re: We need a 2.5D DBZ game!
Tekken it's not even a 2D fighting game.
On topic, I'm all in for a new 2.5D DBZ game. Since I like the genre a lot, I'ld take anything above casual level.

I wouldn't mind a 2.5D DBZ game, heck i'd settle for a handheld version if it meant it focused primarily on classic dbz.
