Dragonball AF Manga

Post by Suupaa Gohan 2 » Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:02 pm

First of all, no SHIT it's not by Toriyama-Sensei. I don't want to catch crap for uttering the dreaded words "Dragonball AF" on this thread, so if you've got a mind to call me an idiot or other such things, I suggest you READ the rest of the thread before you message me upon seeing the topic title with immature crap the like of "ZOMFG u r so stoopid AF aint real STFU u tard". So if you feel like doing that, do the mature thing and, um, I dunno, DON'T.

Anyways, onto the topic at hand. Dragonball AF, we've all heard the rumors and other false nonsense, and we all rolled in laughter at the classic DaizEX April Fool's prank on the subject. Now personally I've never been aware of the actual true nature, that it was rumored to have been a Doujinshi for quite some time, but I've never even been able to find anything on a DOUJINSHI known as "Dragonball AF", only those well-known photoshop fanmade images we've all seen before.

But I happened across this...

http://blog.livedoor.jp/toyble/?blog_id=1561384

Now according to THIS website, THIS version of "Dragonball AF", whether the rumored "original" or a new Doujinshi on the subject, appears to be new as of early this very MONTH. I (with my rudimentary knowledge of Japanese, I curse the non-use of Furugana ><) read bits and pieces of it, and (like GT before it), it seems completely riddiculous, certainly nothing I'd ever be interested in-as far as I'm concerned, even if Toriyama-Sensei randomly decided to pick up the pen again and for whatever reason actually continue the series where Z left off, the ending of Z will always be THE ending to me. No GT, no "AF"...I'm just not interested.

What I WOULD, however, like to know, is the "officiality" if you will of this. Clearly, it's professional Doujinshi quality, and the style, in comparison to most Doujinshi, does quite an accurate job of mimicking Toriyama-Sensei's own artwork. However, as someone who browses Japanese fansites a lot, I've come to realize that the Japanese are just Damn good at this kind of stuff in general, and it could, quite possibly, be nothing more than an UNOFFICIAL fanwork, and not even an ACTUAL Doujinshi.

So I'm a little unclear on the details. That's the reason I've started this topic, NOT to create another typical fanboy arguement over the long-time rumored Dragonball AF...>< Please, if at all possible, I'd like to avoid that crap. If this can carry on as an INTELLIGENT conversation in regards to everything heard about "AF" over the past years, fine, but I'd just like it to be clear this topic was not started for the purpose of an all-out "AF is real n it rulz" or "ur the 5uXorZ AF aint real" war...

So, if anyone with better skill in Japanese than me has any information regarding that website and the "Dragonball AF" therein, lemme know!!

This is some good stuff madam, but I think DaemonCorps gave us a preview of this not too long ago. If I'm mistaken, feel free to shoot me now.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Don't take this the wrong way, SG2, but . . . damn, do I love your attitude. It's somewhat refreshing.

As for the manga, I'm surpsied it's still being updated! Who knows, maybe in a few years or so we'll have a complete AF manga that we can "reference" and deceive a whole new generation of fans into thinking that AF is real.

The legend lives on.

Now, at any rate, does anyone know how much of this Julian has translated? He's a busy man; he might not have translated any of it (and I just can't remember) . . . but maybe when there's new translations by anyone speaking a lick of Japanese, they could be posted here.

Thanks Suupaa Gohan 2, last time I followed the link it wouldn't load up properly for me. I then just forgot about it, and you just reminded me. :)

I like the way it looks, I think it looks great and would love to understand the story too, but since I carn't read Japanese I just enjoy looking at the images. I think a really funny part of it is when Gohan is teaching and there is a announcement of some crime and Goten just stays there talking to the girl, and Gohan creeps up behind him, lol it's awesome!

I don't understand the deal with Freeza and the woman who I'm pretty sure is West Kaiōshin, and when this is supposed to be taking place, but it looks good and the drawings are brilliant.

That woman is Freeza's mother (in this story only, of course). One of the minions (OMG Appule?!) calls her raira-sama. I'm not sure if there's a pun in there or if it's just Lyla or something <_<

And did anyone else spot Kuriiza?

It's not Appule, he doesn't have that fish-like thing on his head. Still, Kuriza and Coola in that picture is great.

And yes, that is definately a copy of West Kaioshin.

Behold, Appule!

Anyway, I wasn't saying Appule was that guy with the fish head, I meant the guy on the page after that.

And is that really supposed to be Coola? It doesn't look like him at all.

I guess he's supposed to be "untransformed", here.
Or maybe it's the clothes.
Or maybe we're simply not used to seeing him in black and white (no darker skin).

It's the artists interpretation of Coola's earlier form.

And I though you were referring to the fish guy (Chibi Mystic Gohan)... the creature on the next page is definately Appule! But...wasn't he dead? Who cares! This manga is hella cool!

I don't think it's Cooler in his earlier form. I think it's just him in armor.
