The Most Bombastic Kikuchi Music?
And when I mean bombastic, I mean music that doesn't take time to build up, but IMMEDIATELY slams you, that immediately captures your attention within the 5 five seconds. So basically songs like this...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiDI4GZMVF0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGx1Qnez780
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-0_MKaDfSk (with higher quality auido, but SFX left in)/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfdtfE2g4wk (lower audio quality, but no SFX)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tx73OShOgI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPMt42ZXCGY
The reason I ask is because one of the absolute main reasons why I've always been ambivalent towards Kikuchi is because his score never seemed to have any songs like that, outside of like, one song that I can think of. But, I haven't seen the entire score, so I don't want to jump the gun in saying anything about it. So, if some of you don't mind...would you please post some examples of Kikuchi songs that might fit into what I'm talking about? It'd be GREATLY appreciated !!

Perhaps the most obvious choice is M1525 (The Tragic Battle) from Movie 8. Smacks you and keeps going. Easily one of my favourite Kikuchi tracks.
Similarly, M1311 (Goku Moves In To Tear Off Coola's Arm) is pretty intense from the get-go. M1211 (Haiya Dragon Detected) is pretty immediate, too.
I'll update as I think of more, but I'm sure someone will beat me to it by the time I'm up tomorrow.

Re: The Most Bombastic Kikuchi Music?
To me something is bombastic when it truly sounds grand, that is when lots of stuff seems to be happening at the same time and it all just overwhelms you.
This fulfills that idea for me perfectly. The alarming sound of the beginning already captures my attention immediately.
This is probably my favorite piece of everything Kikuchi ever did. That catchy, mechanical rhythm is just so evilly sick and the high-pitched sound in the background that repeats itself provides great contrast and makes it so intense. Love how it always reminds me of Cell.
This one also instantly gets things going. The guitar's sound and its melody with the thumping drums make things extremely urgent. Reminds me of the scene where Boo attacked Goku and Vegeta before fusing.
There are way more that I could ever remind myself of off the top of my head, though.

So wait, are those links to four different songs, or are those links to 12-16 songs that are spread across 4 different videos? Because in each of them, I'll hear a melody that will come to a clear end before moving on to a different tune.Lord Beerus wrote:The Cell Games Which Summon Death, Prevent It! Re: The Most Bombastic Kikuchi Music?
A lot of tracks from the BGM sets are basically medleys of various pieces put together. Sometimes, it's done a bit too clumsily and the various cues put together are completely unrelated from one another. It's made even worse when a few track titles themselves are vague and not really appropriate(such as "The Artificial Humans Go to Town," which is just the Movie 2 rendition of Piccolo's theme, a Movie 4 variant of the Saiyan/SSJ theme, and a cue from the 5th film).Fionordequester wrote:So wait, are those links to four different songs, or are those links to 12-16 songs that are spread across 4 different videos? Huh...yeah, that complicates things a little. Though to be fair, it's not like the FUNI OST wasn't that way as well, so I guess I can't complain TOO much. So, Lord Beerus, when you linked to those songs, do you mean ALL of them are bombastic, or just some of the tunes in them are bombastic? If you mean the latter, could you please point me to each specific spot in each video? Please and thank you!

Re: The Most Bombastic Kikuchi Music?
To be fair all links in Op's post sound very bland to me. OST to hyper-mega-super-wow-how-super entertainment product for older kids/younger teens no. 1001. Except the last one- man, that hurts! Like Funi OST for DBZ, but even worse.
Probably the years have changed me, but for me the soundtrack must catch your attention not by loud notes, but by theme that will stuck in your head and will forever open that shelf in your brain. Like theme for Star Wars, Bag End and Fellowship themes form Lord of the Rings, Canta per me from Noir etc.
I've wrote it over and over again and I will write it again- your whole problem with Japanese OST is that you grew up with Funi, period. Therefore nobody taught you that you should be programmed to respond of those half-cheerful, half intermediating sounds that started every episode, torturing you and meancing younger siblings.

Or someone can genuinely just not like the score, period. Musical taste isn't the same from person to personEire wrote:To be fair all links in Op's post sound very bland to me. Prologue & Subtitles II is my favorite recap theme, but I prefer Funi's OST over Kikuchi's. The latter mostly bores me, while the former contains themes I genuinely enjoy, even if its placement can be pretty damn terrible in the actual series.
As for the topic, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're basically looking for themes like the following, right?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQCL0odju7M - Kai: Final Chapters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAPl0bsAGyc - Kai
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDpbmFuYVIk - Funi dub
https://youtu.be/Wfss5K82pmk - Naruto
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WXYajeP9TE - Yu-Gi-Oh!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS0uZUOkHAw - Yu Yu Hakusho
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rllfr-_dhOk - Bleach
Basically, "in your face" themes that play when you know shit is getting real? Yeah, none of that in Kikuchi's soundtrack, though some almost reach that level.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

It's one of my favorites from Kikuchi.

Re: The Most Bombastic Kikuchi Music?
It seems like those individual cues don't really receive titles of their own, if I'm not mistaken. Their code numbers are really the closest you can get. Well, unless you count the official OST medley titles, in which case, it'd be "The Fearsome Ginyu Special Task Force." But that isn't entirely correct because, as I said, they're medleys, and the piece originally had nothing to do with the Ginyu Force and was just reused later on in the show for them and other scenes.
The musical idea behind it is that it's an action rendition of Garlic Jr's theme. You hear his motif throughout the film in a number of cues, and this variant is for when he starts his battle with Goku and Piccolo after transforming.
