I don't think it's asinine (I'm pretty sure you were referring to me, as I'm the only one who made the comparison). No matter what it is, you can see whether or not some effort was put into the product and it gives us an idea of what kind of effort they're going to put into the full product or at what kind of audience they're targeting the product to or what they're it marketing as. Does this mean with 100% certainty that Super will be lazy and uninspired? No, of course not, that's ridiculous; but it serves to make us cautious anyway.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Okay? The Photoshopped logo (the blue one) made its way to the current 2ch thread, someone there found it interesting.
On hiatus.

You're right. After all, these same Japanese anime fans, are the same ones that complained about Gohan become a SSJ for 5 seconds to the point that it was changed in the actual BoG film (ignoring the fact that he did it again in RoF). I don't think they'd be picky enough to complain about a logo like we're doing.Lord Beerus wrote:Why would there be? It's just a damn logo. And Gohan became a SSJ in the SSJG ritual in BOG anyway. So in hindsight, it was pointless to complain about Gohan becoming a SSJ in BOG. But in regards to the logo, it's fine. It's not great, it's not bad, it's just fine. Fans have every right to praise or criticise the logo as much as they please. I'd just rather save my energy for criticism and praise for when the episodes of the show actually begin the air.NeoKING wrote:You're right. Oh, god, I don't have anything about other opinions, but I think that I'll never enjoy a show with positive people again.
Everything has to be nitpicked and criticized to death. I am happy that I am not a Star Trek fan.
So there is listing for the episodes already? But with no info?

Welcome to the last couple month's where that has been pretty much the mentality.Metalwario64 wrote:Exactly!AjayLikesGaming wrote:Okay? What does have to do with Japanese fans' thoughts about a logo.

I can't stand how these days on the internet, if anyone is displeased with any aspect of anything and states their criticism, that, no matter how legitimate their complaints may be, there are people who label them haters, call them "entitled" (way to misuse that term), and act as though everyone has to like everything, and any criticism, no matter how legitimate, is whiny nitpicking.
In this case, there are plenty of people (me included), who thinks it's a poor logo. Now you have people saying that anyone complaining about it are just "haters who hate everything for the sake of it!"... Uh... no? I think it's a lousy logo. I'm still cautiously optimistic for Super. I thought Battle of Gods was pretty good, but I thought Minus was terrible. I'm not a "blind, entitled hater". If I don't like something, I have a good reason for it. If I think something could, or should be better, then there's nothing wrong or "entitled" about that.
Plus, the logo's the only thing that's been solidly revealed so far. What else does anyone expect everyone to be discussing?
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Veering way off-topic now, but I disagree. I think there's a very big difference from what the last few months were compared to what the last few pages have been.dbzfan7 wrote:Welcome to the last couple month's where that has been pretty much the mentality.
There were an absurd amount of people throwing criticisms at Fukkatsu no F without having seen the film. They were rightly shot down as ridiculous. Few would talk about not liking the idea of something, it was straight up baseless vitriol. Once people saw the film in whatever form, their opinions actually held some weight, regardless of whether they changed or not. Man, I was sick to death of typing the same old "you haven't seen it yet!" message over and over.
This is an entirely different situation. For whatever reason, there's a couple of users who can't differentiate between criticism of a logo and criticism of a show. There's no link there. It's just us wonderfully bored fans nitpicking the one shred of news we've had in the longest time. There's no serious intentions coming from any rational user. Anyone drawing the conclusion that "lazy logo = lazy show" should outright be ignored.
I think the logo is pretty mediocre, but that has no relation to my preconceptions of Super. I'm ecstatic and cannot wait for next month! My only fear is that some of us will get too caught up in one aspect of the show rather than judging it as a full package. For example, bad animation doesn't suddenly kill the entire show, less than ideal music can't ruin everything, and some questionable plot contrivances certainly don't make for an overall terrible product.
That kinda thing flies with something like Kai, because it's a different version of pre-existing media. If the things you're changing aren't good, then you're making your product pointless. I just hope the mentality set in those threads don't carry across to this. I've been one of the biggest critics of Kai, but I fully understand tackling Super will be vastly different.
Anyway, here's hoping there'll be some interesting talking points that don't devolve into mindless creator bashing! I can't wait.

If I'm reading this correctly (and I may not be; I could be wrong) It looks like Toei'll have to do something with the dragonballsuper.com website tomorrow. There's a countdown clock that looks like it's counting down to when the hold on the site name expires. http://dragonballsuper.com/
On hiatus.

The page says the domain is bought by onamae.com and that countdown clock is their ad banner that shows when their discount campaign ends.Chuquita wrote:If I'm reading this correctly (and I may not be; I could be wrong) It looks like Toei'll have to do something with the dragonballsuper.com website tomorrow. I'd like to publicly apologize for criticizing the only possible thing we can criticize about the series right now.
Without a doubt, this will be an amazingly flawless series. The fight scenes fantastic, the story wonderful, and the comedy 100% Toriyama.

Hi
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Actually, we can comment on the series director. Funnily enough, Yamamuro Tadayoshi the director of Fukkatsu no F was all we had to go on in terms to deciphering the quality of the last film. Now all we have is the series director of Dragon Ball Super to decipher what the quality of the series might be. With the former we knew to dread, with the latter we have some glimmer or hope. Funny how life works out sometimes.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Won't they simply just use the dragon_s site that is currently just that one splash page?. Kai was the same. They'll just update the page with more content and jazz it up when they launch it officially.Chuquita wrote:If I'm reading this correctly (and I may not be; I could be wrong) It looks like Toei'll have to do something with the dragonballsuper.com website tomorrow. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I don't think you can figure out the quality of a show/film based on directing alone. More core things like sensible/interesting plot points and character development are much more important than that.
Tim Duncan is dope and forever.

Well, Toei hasn't announced who, if anyone, will be taking the title of Series Composition...SaiyanZ wrote:I don't think you can figure out the quality of a show/film based on directing alone. More core things like plot points and character information are much more important than that.
And I wouldn't put directing down so quickly, either. Direction/storyboarding is why the camera slowly pans down, up; zoom ins and outs; do we follow Goku as he tears through enemies or is it a series of cutaways...? Understandably, it's easy to take these things for granted. Your favorite DBZ fight probably didn't have the choreography all laid out in the script; we even know for a fact that's not what happened with "F"!

This, directing and storyboarding are VERY important. Even if the content is good on paper, a bad directing can break an episode using boring camera angles, hurting the pacing and so on. On the other hand, it can make a mudane script or fight much better.B wrote:And I wouldn't put directing down so quickly, either. There is a reason anime fans dislike directors like Seiji Kishi, he is known for taking great premises and producing a result that is often not as good as it could've been.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Even if I won't be here in this thread to witness it when the time comes, I still feel like telling people to go easy on the show when the first episode airs: you'll be able to judge the first episode, but one episode is certainly not enough to judge aspects of the show yet: it will likely barely have time to settle the era and where the characters are in their lives.
Plus, you'll need some time to go by before the effect of surprise compared to what you might have expected wears off to have a proper judgement.
So don't use one episode to judge if Super is going to be worth it or not as a whole, it's going to take a while before you can actually see where the plot is headed, before you can perceive any character development, before you can see the quality of the animation across various episodes, etc...
It would really be a shame to see only the first 20 minutes and spread everywhere "That's official! I've seen Super and be warned, it's gonna suck big time, nothing to see here!"
A surprisingly high amount of people don't need more than such a statement to ditch a product entirely without giving it a chance or - much more twisted and widespread - to be influenced into thinking the same way without realizing they've just been dragged onto the hate bandwagon without actually forming their own opinion.
