Dragonball Fandom: Revealed!

Post by Mr.Piccolo » Wed Dec 20, 2006 1:54 pm

In the vein of Mr. Wukong’s thread, I’ve decided to make one in more of a positive way...

So, in what way or ways has Dragonball (and other manga/anime interests) affected you? Like if you weren’t introduced to Dragonball, do you think you have the same appreciation you have for other manga today? If you weren’t into Dragonball, would you see yourself bashing it for no apparent reason like a lot of people who make generalizations about this series and anime in general?

Also, have you noticed yourself having certain habits and tendencies now that you probably wouldn’t do if you were into this? I’ll post my answers later, so consider them my “holiday” gift to you all. In the meantime, I have to think of reasons why this thread shouldn’t be locked on the spot :P

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

I probably wouldnt be listening to so much Japanese music, and I wouldn't have gotten interested in anime, and Japanese culture in general.

And Funimation would have gone its whole existance without having me for an enemy, because I wouldn't know enough to care :p

Same, except for the Funimation bit, I don't hate them or anything really.
I've been a fan of DBZ since it started airing here 8 years ago, and it allowed me to appreciate Japanese animation and whatnot, and pretty much led me to watch others.

I would do more productive things with my spare time, or be more obsessed with Megaman, Final Fantasy VII, and Chronicles of Narnia.

I probably would still be into anime but not to the same degree. And may not have as many Dragonball Z games as I did.

I would probably still be an obsessive Sonic the Hedgehog fan.. well I still am, but I have to share my obsessive-ness with Dragon Ball now :P I've met some of my best friends because of Dragon Ball and I suppose I never took up an interest in drawing humans until I got into Dragon Ball.. I am thankful.

As for habits, I suppose I and some friends have some lines engraved into our brains now from Dragon Ball like "Soon, Frieza.. Soon" which comes to mind initially, haha xD

I doubt I'd be nearly as intrested in voice-acting as I am now if it weren't for DBZ. It was just the most epic cartoon I had ever seen when I first watched it, and I was completely hooked by the time Vegeta and Nappa landed on earth.

Right around the time of the Fake-Namek adventure, I kinda got bored with it and stopped watching. I went back to the arcade to play more Marvel vs Capcom games. But I always remembered how cool it was, like Street Fighter with crack-infused steriods

Well if it werent for Dragonball, I wouldn't have gotten into any anime at all and would probably be living a miserable life because Dragonball got me a lot of friends :D

Yeah, without Dragonball, I wouldn't have been able to become great friends with my cousin Steve (who introduced me to Dragonball when I was 4 or 5) or make some of the friends I have. Also, most Manga would be as good without Toriyama-Sensei's Dragonball...like Bleach, One Piece, or Naruto!

I would have no reason to live without Dragonball [dramatization]. Really though, when all else fails this is the one thing I can be sure will cheer me up . It's an endless source of entertainment, or at least it hasn't run out for me yet in nine years.

Habits I've developed? Well I'm not sure, but I don't think I used to scratch my head when I was embarrassed or confused. Now that I think about it, that probably looks pretty dumb.

Well, if it wasn't for Dragonball, I'd probably be one of those "haters" that we all know and love. I'd just refer to Dragonball (and all anime) as gay. I'd just repeat the same stuff they do. I probably wouldn't have too much variety with things I read and even video games.. Maybe I'd be foolish enough to buy a Madden every freakin' year..

Without DragonBall... I'd maybe never really have gotten into anime in general like I have. I'd probably be a lot less of a nerd, too. :D

What's interesting is, some people have different interpretations of that being good or bad. Me? I don't care!!! 8)

It's little things that can make a big difference. I'd be a different person if I got a Nintendo 64 instead of a PlayStation when I was little. I'd be different if I didn't watch DBZ. And I'd be very different if I went to the Lafayette instead of the Parlin (don't ask).

I'd be one bored SOB, and I probably wouldn't harbor such an intense dislike of the anime community. Most fans make me wish I could pull a Vegeta and Big Bang their ass. >.>

My fandom would be much more focused on Sonic the Hedgehog (Much like Mika), though I'd still be an anime fan, I'd be much more casual, and God knows, I might have a *Huge gasp* Social Life!!!
Hehe, yeah Dragonball has indeed had a huge effect on my life, Hironebu Kageyama really kick-started my J-rock love,so I might not even be listening to it, or, I may have found my way to it somehow else, who knows?
All in all, I'm just glad I found out about it, I mean, its pretty much made me into the... thing I am today. xD

If I hadn't gotten into Dragonball, I'd probably not get into anime/manga that much and I'd have a different set of friends than I do now. I'd also most likely be a LOT more outgoing. :P
