Anybody already stopped watching Super?

I meant the *audience* doesn't need to rely on the movies.
Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
We've got cinematic universes that are spread around multiple different mediums these days with people who actively watch them. I really doubt anyone could possibly be confused by this order: DB, Z or Kai, BoG, RoF, Super (set after RoF). Especially since this filler arc would begin with a few minute long recap of the films as Kai did in its introduction.irreality wrote:I meant the *audience* doesn't need to rely on the movies.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

It is just simpler and cleaner. It is such a simple and elegant solution to filler I don't understand what you are missing. They might be editing in Champa in RoF and changing the ending of BoG (they have a little, now), so it is easy to do all those minor changes for fluidity all in one go. All the solutions you are proposing are just more work, clunkier and more likely to backfire.
Anyway. I'm tired of having the same argument as to why they chose to retell the movies. It is a reasonable logistical decision for *many* reasons, even if people want to nitpick about them. I understand those who are bored with it and wish to skip it, but I can't see why they can't see that simply because they personally don't like a decision, it doesn't make it a bad one, financially and logistically.
What Toyotaro is doing: we might still see all those scenes in Super eventually. The purpose of the manga is there to tease us with future events.

I peek in on Super occasionally, but I'm waiting for an official release before I watch it full time (good quality official releases are always good by me). Hopefully FUNi will announce something soon (a stream, DVD/Blu Ray, a dub, something).

Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I'm kinda in the same boat here. I'll skim through parts of a new episode and see what people are saying about it but that's about it. I'm not sure if I'll even see the dub for it. It actually depresses me that I'm not longer all giddy for SuperMewzard wrote:I peek in on Super occasionally, but I'm waiting for an official release before I watch it full time (good quality official releases are always good by me). Yeah Super has done some new stuff but it's not enough to win me over because
1. I've already seen it with BoG
And most importantly,
2. This doesn't really give me the same feeling Dragon Ball, DBZ, BoG and even RF gave me. It doesn't have that same sense of magic to me.
I'm just waiting for the Uni6 arc and am gonna watch BoG and RF to catch up.

That could take a long time. The TV rips are of pretty good quality.Mewzard wrote:I peek in on Super occasionally, but I'm waiting for an official release before I watch it full time (good quality official releases are always good by me). Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I wish I had the self-control to stop watching the series.
I was thrilled when I learned a new series was coming. I didn't read anything about it, because I hate spoilers. I loved BoG, and wasn't too keen on RoF, but it had solid redeeming qualities, and I was pumped to see what would happen after that.
I didn't know Super was going to rehash the movies until I started watching the show, and when I realized that, my heart sank. Utterly unbelievable. I've tried to get enjoyment out of it since then, and it just upsets me every week.
I am one of those people who was looking forward to a DB series of new material that would be filler-free and reasonably paced, but that isn't what Super is at all. If Toei just wanted to make sure people knew the events of the movies before starting the new story, they could have just recapped them in flashbacks. But because they didn't, it's clear that they're not that interested in putting a reasonable effort into the series. It's less work to rewrite the movies than to make new stories, but come on! Even GT could muster that much! It didn't rewrite the original Z movies! Why not have Super just show what happens before between and after the new movies?
I think Super is damaging to the franchise, and since this is how Toei is handling it, I just wish it didn't exist.
They could have kept enthusiasm for the series alive by continuing with movies of the quality of the last two, or through manga with original content, or by doing SOMETHING else than overwriting the movies. And they remove many quality moments from BoG on top of it? It just...blows my mind.

Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
After the last two episodes, it's patently obvious to me, that whoever isn't watching Super, is missing out.
Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I will have to agree. Even if they might turn out to not like what they see, they should actually see it first. It is worth at least that.SylentEcho wrote:After the last two episodes, it's patently obvious to me, that whoever isn't watching Super, is missing out.

Not to exaggerate, but I watched most episode 2 times, some even 3 times

Huh, now that I think about it, I guess I do the same. Once via a stream, once again via an HD raw, and then again when an accurate sub is out.shinmaru wrote:Not to exaggerate, but I watched most episode 2 times, some even 3 times

Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I normally watch each twice, first via a HD raw first thing on Sunday and again when Dragon Team get their sub out. I watch it live when I can, but I'm usually out at 1am on a Saturday.

Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I watch each episode at least three times, it's rare when I just watch it twice (live and then subbed), but episodes #8 and #12 have made me do that. Normally I watch it live, then watch it again once the raw comes out, then again once speedsubs start coming out, and then a bunch more times depending on how much I like the episode once DragonTeam releases their version. There's a lot of interesting character stuff in Super so far I just adore.

Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I watch each episode once. Specifically, the subbed version because I don't understand Japanese. I can't imagine me rewatching any of these episodes, so far. Well, besides #5 for the lulz.

Same here. I watch each episode with fast subs first, and then with the good subs. But the first episode, I saw it in raw as well. I prefer the movie version, and I don't like a lot of the changes they made, but I still find it enjoyable.shinmaru wrote:Not to exaggerate, but I watched most episode 2 times, some even 3 times
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I've watched every episode, but in the future I don't know if I'll ever rewatch the series. I can just watch the Battle of Gods movie and save myself about 5 hours.

Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
I follow it for reference, but I don't plan on rewatching it after first airing. Its just really boring and nothing interesting at all happened in the first arc. Granted it has its moments but I watch those when they're cut out of the rest of the episodes as clips on youtube. There just isn't anything keeping me into it other than curiosity. Thus far I give it just a mediocre review with really low expectations.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.
Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
Started with fast subs, rewatched with good subs when I learned of them. Then due to delays, decided to watch fast subs while waiting for good subs, but I can't bring myself to watch the episodes twice. I don't care enough about this series for faithful dialogue, because it hasn't made much of a difference in what I've seen so far (the fast subs seem to be getting more tolerable, as well).DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Same here. To answer the thread question, I haven't stopped, because keeping up weekly is pretty easy. I have literally fallen asleep during episodes twice now, though, and I find the entire thing extremely boring. If I were to fall behind for whatever reason I don't think I can catch up.
The only reason I am really keeping up is for anything new it introduces.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
The only reason i am still watching it is because i love the franchise. If Dragon Ball started with Super i would have stopped watching by now.

Re: Anybody already stopped watching Super?
Well, I think I've reached my saturation point with this show. I tried to watch the recent episode with Mr. Satan claiming he saved the world from Beerus, and I just couldn't stay with it. I tried.
This episode was as bad as the GT episodes with those dancing Para brothers (that and the whole Luud arc were the bottom of the barrel for me). There's only so many times I can watch a rehash of a rehash of a rehash of a rehash of the same jokes. It's not funny anymore. It's lazy. I don't feel like the people writing these stories care about the franchise. I think they're putting forth the absolute minimum effort to get by. And they're making me, well...not care less, but just upset, I guess. And too disappointed and disheartened to go on. DBS makes me embarrassed to be a DB fan. The worst part is, I can't even blame the badness on the localization of the show, like I could when Funimation was putting out season 3 in the US. Now the source material is actually bad (and the English dub has gotten good? What confusing times!).
From this point on, I may just skim episodes. It just makes me too unhappy to give it any more than that. Maybe when the U6 arc rolls around I'll pay a bit more attention.
I guess this is how Star Wars fans felt when The Phantom Menace came out. The similarity is kind of eerie. Maybe at some point in the future, someone inspired will come along and revive the franchise. I'm not expecting that for a long time though.
