I really hope there is a war/battle scenes. I think seeing something like that in DC's gorgeous art style ... would just blow my mind.

Chapter 2 - Page 7:

....without color?

In DeadlyChestnut's words:

DeadlyChestnut wrote:Oh my - the color! What happened to the color?! Image

You know, I realized that I dedicate an immense amount of time to coloring those pages (my whole sunday, people!) and THEN I realized that I really ought to spend that time on other things, at least in the near future.
The color shall return... on the first of May 2011. Yeah. Or I'll have learned to make things look good in black and white until then, hah.

Please don't complain about the lack of color. :< I know it was the one saving grace of this thing and my fingers were itching so badly because I wanted to color that evil lineart. I really love coloring. So friggin much. But I shall not allow it.

Ah, I hope you still get some enjoyment out of this page here. Don't take the monochromatic look as a sign that I'm slowly losing interest, because noooo! The opposite is true, indeed. I'm finally reaching parts that were really fun to write. Image

(PS: If someone has too much spare time XD and feels like honoring this page with a splash of color I can send you a better file to work with. All it'd gain you is a feature and my love though, so idk why anyone would want to do work I'm supposed to do myself.)
On topic with the plot of the comic, I like how Cooler is handling this conversation. Just let Freeza rant away Cooler... :P

Art - great, no tracing
Dialogue - great
Goku - nonexistant
Broly - very minor background, defeated by Vegeta and Freeza

I daresay this is the only good, or even decent, Dragonball fancomic in existence.

The colors might be gone but the awesome dialogue and the great art is still intact.

Gotta love Coola's smug smile in the fifth panel. He might as well be giving Freeza the middle finger.

The art doesn't look as great without the colour, but I'm sure that will change as the artist gets used to drawing in monochrome.

Heck, the lineart and storyline speaks for itself. While it does not have the flare of Deadly Chestnut's awesome coloring work, it is still an excellent read. I am loving Freeza's expression when he states "You don't make mistakes" and Cooler is all like  .

Just wanted to post a link to a colored version of the latest page approved by DeadlyChestnut.
This is what it could have been...

This is officially my favourite Dragon Ball fancomic.

Awesome guest coloring. They should always do that. DeadlyChestnut should do the black and white page and RyunoOhi the coloring, to save time and continue the release of colored pages.

Sudden change of style, in your face! And what's more, they even seemed to have the time for a wardrobe change!

... Yes, I am quite aware that I run the risk of ripping the story apart here, but no, no I don't care. It's not like I want to win the Eisner award. Just trying a few things along the way. Better get used to it. XP

I do apologize for the general fuglyness, though. Gimme some time, I will eventually be able to make things look better... Pretty ill inspired with how things look like at the moment. Maybe I'll bring the color back after all, but... idk. Advancing the story! Is the only thing I want to do right now, don't care how.

Btw, it's a lot more fun to draw this way, no matter the outcome! Hope you still enjoy it somewhat as well.
Yes... You do run the risk of ripping the story apart here, DeadlyChestnut... This style is interesting but I think the other one was way better... this style makes everything seem comical and actually funny, instead of making everything look serious and actually making things seem menacing so that the reader feels the tension rising... All of that, which was a big deal in previous pages, is kind of lost with this style. :|

It looks dumb. The new armor looks dumb. I think it's dumb.

..but the plots still good, so I'm going to keep reading it.

Love the new page and this little dispute between Freeza and Coola...

...but the sudden switch in art style is just really strange. I mean, I understand it's the only thing she wanted to do at the time, but at the risk of the art style? Like rereboy said, it decreases the tension in the scene, even if the vocal exchange between the brothers is somewhat comical.

I think if DeadlyChestnut really fells that uninspired, then she should just put this fancomic on hiatus. I still enjoyed this page regardless, but she should be careful with her consistency on the art...

I think that their facial expression feel more natural and convincing. I like this style more than the previous one to be honest.
Comical? No, not more comical than a menacing Disney villain, I'd say.

I like it a lot more than just aping Toriyama's style.

Which is a huge step down from the tension that the other style was able to transmit the reader, since a typical Disney villain doesn`t exactly transmit that lively tension very well.

In all other pages, I could feel the tension between Freeza and Coola and between the other characters. In this one, most of it is lost.

I like this new style. I just think its hurting what was good in this fan manga/comic. And what was good in this fan manga was what got me interested in it.

Then I'd say that the problem doesn't lie in the artistic choice of the author, but your narrow window of emotional interpretation.
To me, the tension is still there. I find it odd that you don't see it.
And I am not alone in thinking that Disney villains have a really menacing way, even in tense situations. I am not speaking about those goofy villains here, but types like the Queen in Snowwhite and other older publications by Disney, where villains were evil and cruel but yet showed human facial expressions.
I'd even go as far to say that they don't resemble Disney villains per se, but normal humans and their normal facial expressions.
The issue here is that unfortunately, as a gag manga artist, expressions isn't Toriyama's strongest side, which makes fans of Dragonball more distant to the idea of other "angry/menacing/taunting" expressions and claim that they are comical.

Excuse me...?. I don't come to this forum to be insulted due to my views.

I don't think this style portrays the tension and seriousness of the situation as well as the previous style, as a typical Disney style would also portray it worse than some other comic style that uses a more serious tone in its art.

If you don't like what I'm saying that's your problem.

I look at this and I can't help but to find it funny and chuckle a little, in what is supposed to be a very serious scene full of tension between the two brothers:

Image

I find it odd that you don`t think so.

Which is too bad since this fan manga was becoming my favorite fan manga out there due to its excellent dialog, perfect cinematic scenes, and the way it transmitted the tension (and a lot of more stuff) between the characters without needing a lot of dialog.
This change of style goes somewhat against what I like about the fan manga. Which is all I was saying... You Know... Before you decided I had a narrow window of emotional interpretation.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the pic, I was really thinking of. But I'm pretty sure I recognize that style from somewhere, if it's not the one I linked to that has a similar face to Cooler.

Now that that's said, I will say that I don't have anything against this sudden change of style. It's actually refreshing with a new style, that isn't that close to Toriyama's and I like fans' own interpretation of Toriyama's characters, than just making it similar.

Also Finally we'll get to see King Cold. I wonder what role he'll play? Will he be an important character? or just like his canon counterpart?
