DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai\Vortex)
Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
I noticed on the birds-eye view of Raditz's body that they colored over his white eyes to make his eyelids closed and cut out the closeup.
There were several dialogue edits as well, looks like Funi re-recorded the lines for The CW and replaced all instances of kill and dead that were in Nicktoons with other words. Ex. "I was saving this attack for you, I doubt Goku will stay gone for long."
The thing that got me the most was they replaced Raditz line "Are you stupid?" to some other word I couldn't catch. Really? They can't even say "stupid" on The CW? Wow, their BS&P is more strict than I thought.

Actually, that was in the Nicktoons version too. The only dialogue edit I noticed was when Piccolo says "It's over, he's gone", they omitted the "he's gone" part. I'm not saying there isn't any more dialogue edits, just saying the one you pointed out was there and, this line in particular was taken out...gmster wrote:There were several dialogue edits as well, looks like Funi re-recorded the lines for The CW and replaced all instances of kill and dead that were in Nicktoons with other words. Side note - I see you're new here, I'm guessing you haven't seen this: Tanooki's DragonBall Z Kai TV Version Edits! If you ever want to compare Toonzai edits with Nicktoons, I guess it's pretty good to have as a reference.
It will be continued in September.

How many times does it have to be said? 4Kids has almost nothing to do with this broadcast. It's edits made by FUNimation mandated by the network. NOT 4KIDS!Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Oh, 4kids. You never cease to amaze me.

Does anyone else out there wish for a world where soccer mom type parents don't over control what's on TV?
I mean, how did they EVER play the movies on TV? I doubt people want to watch "DragonBall Z Movie 1: The Gone Zone" because apparently kids have never heard the word 'dead' on TV before.

Why would 4Kids ever air the Dragon Ball Z films with their limited time each week?LeprikanGT wrote:Does anyone else out there wish for a world where soccer mom type parents dont over control whats on tv?

Soccer moms don't control anything. It's the network appeasing the FCC. Which has standards loosely based on the perception of what middle-America will comfortably watch.LeprikanGT wrote:Does anyone else out there wish for a world where soccer mom type parents dont over control whats on tv?
Which in turn is probably based on the FCC's standards.

Jeez, why all the soccer mom hate? You do realize you need censorship on a children's TV show. Just because kids see sex, violence or have heard cussing before doesn't mean they should put it in a show for children. DragonBall fans don't really have that "how dare they edit DragonBall" attitude anymore. At least not for the anime on television. These conversations about the censorship are usually about how silly they are now and how most of them are a little bizarre. We laugh at them now knowing we'll get a great uncensored home version.LeprikanGT wrote:Does anyone else out there wish for a world where soccer mom type parents don't over control what's on TV?

I'm honestly not sure I agree that a TV show that's already made for children needs to be censored for children.Tanooki Kuribo wrote: Jeez, why all the soccer mom hate? You do realize you need censorship on a children's TV show.

Japanese children. Different countries have different ideas for what's okay for children to be exposed to, and just because something flies in Japan doesn't mean it's okay in America. Editing the show allows it to be shown to the same age group as the show is aimed at in Japan. One could argue that by editing the show to fit American TV's standards it gives American children an equivalent experience to the one Japanese children have watching the Japanese version, which is edited to Japan's ideas of what's okay for kids.Gaffer Tape wrote:I'm honestly not sure I agree that a TV show that's already made for children needs to be censored for children.Tanooki Kuribo wrote: Jeez, why all the soccer mom hate? Just because the ideals are different doesn't mean they don't need to be re-examined. Are Japanese children really a wholly different entity from American children? Or is it just because "we" say so? And let's take it out of the realm of different cultures. Producers of children's entertainment have always fought with censorship bodies because, let's face it, the censorship bodies are completely cowed. Children's shows are always trying to do things to sneak things past the censors. Is it because they have it in to corrupt children? No! It's just because they have a more realistic perspective over what is or isn't going to ruin the youth of today. Believe it or not, Scrappy-Doo was a controversial character back in the '70s. And, no, not because people found him annoying but because he dared to express a dissenting opinion. The other characters ran away. He stood and fought. And the censors didn't like that a character was thinking independently because everybody should be getting along. Is that really the kind of people and the kind of mindset we want dictating what our children can and can't see?

Didn't the Japanese edit the home release? So YES I don't like getting edits when I know someone is supposed to be bleeding and so on.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:LeprikanGT wrote:Blame it on $%^&*( soccer moms who don't think their kids have seen sex, violence, or heard cussing before.Jeez, why all the soccer mom hate? @Gaffer: My point exactly; a show that is already made 25 years ago and put on tv shouldnt need to be hacked up AGAIN just b/c someone decided tiny weiners and 'beer colored liquid' is offensive. Leave it like it was, it was amazing to begin with.
@Taku: Yes, I feel that if something is editted in the US and NOT in Japan, that I am missing out and not getting the complete show. It's not like it's even on a channel everyone has.
Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
Didn't DBZ air in primetime in Japan? We could get away with it, here, if it was on Primetime. It's the same way how Kai is censored now because it airs at 9AM on Sundays.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
Yes, we could get away with it here on primetime, but that's not because of some magical inherent properties of primetime over daytime (I mean, I'm sure you know that so don't think I'm being snarky). It's because of the whole "what's appropriate for dear, sensitive little Chandler and Haley" mindset. Daytime television is more heavily censored because children are more likely to be watching in the daytime. Sadly it seems that some of our more ridiculous mores (not that all of our mores are ridiculous) are rubbing off on Japanese culture.
Since you bring it up, though, I do find the whole timeslot thing confusing. I mean, timeslot or no, Dragon Ball has always been a children's show. What the hell does it matter what time you air it? Whether it's Sunday morning or early Wednesday evening you're still going to have largely the same audience.

What thought-provoking original prose! I can't believe nobody has done anything about that! Oh yeah... because it's not that simple.

And what an unnecessarily snarky and antagonistic bit of prose from you! Please drop the attitude. Now.
And you're right. It's not that simple. People would whine about it. And the squeaky wheel gets the oil. The kind of attitude you're expressing, "Oh, it's not that simple, so you might as well just accept it," (I know I'm finishing your sentence for you, but that's the impression I'm getting) is why the most reactionary and overzealous censors get their way.

Complaining about something so big and out of our hands as FCC regulations on a niche of a niche message board on the internet does a little less than jack shit.
