It's a swear according to channels like Cartoon Network (Not counting Adult Swim)
It goes back to how when I was a kid I used to hear, "Hell is a mild swear if you're not referring to it as a place." So saying things like "What the Hell?" and other similar things was considered swearing, but not when you refer to it as a place. Though networks that aim at a young audience make it seem that all utterances of the word "Hell" is bad.

I was just trying to point out that Funimation has used language like this before, as well as in other series.
That's what I said in my earlier list.

FUNimation is probably just devoutly Christian. God is a deity, so to claim that "Kami" is the actual God is sacriledge. Also, Hell as a place is not a swear word, but Christians don't go there* thanks to Jesus' sacrifice, so to speak of it must be herecy in FUNi's eyes. I mean, it's not like they were using Hell as a mild swear word: they were indeed referring to Hell the place.

*Except for Catholics. Thanks to the time-honored tradition of using Hell as a scare tactic, all Catholics go to Hell. :P

I have no idea what the hell you’re talking about, Dayspring.
Bad joke, I know.

Regarding the topic at hand, I must say that hearing Korin use the word really enhanced the scene in my opinion. I mean three of earth's most respected, martial artists and heroes were just ruthlessly killed. To make matters worse their sacrifices were pretty much useless. None of them really did any damage to Nappa at all. I think "harsh" language is in order when three of your students have just been killed.

Just out of curiosity, did Korin have a similar line in the Japanese version?

In Japanese he says instead "We're counting on you!", at least with the version I've seen he does.

Piccolo's death just aired on the West Coast. It's still just as touching.

Hey, quick question to those with fansubs or general knowledge of the original version.. When's the scene with Lunch drinking at a bar supposed to be?

Episode just ended. Aside from too much filler and not enough action, and that they kept Vegeta initially offering Goku to be his servant, good ep. In an ironic twist Vegeta pronounces Kaioken the proper way"Ky-o-ken", whereas Goku does not.

For everyone else who saw tonight's ep, would you say that was the most megalomaniacal that Mr. Sabat has sounded since he's played Vegeta? I think so. And it was nice to see him get his ass handed to.

Tonight:
Saban Goku: "That giant ape, all those years ago... was YOU?!!?"

Redub Goku: "That giant ape, all those years ago... was ME!!!"

My two cents:
THERE IS A GOD!!!!!

Edit: VEGETA SAID DAMN!!!! :P This has got to be the most swears FUNi has ever put into a DBZ saga : Saiyan:2, Namek: None(so far), Android/Buu: ? (please tell me). That wasn't counting the movies, tv specials or hell referring to the place.
I also go by "veemonjosh".

THERE IS A GOD!!!!!
Yes there is. He's a really old, green slug alien named Kami.

On a more serious note, I too thoroughly enjoyed this episode. The whole part where Goku realized he was the one who killed his grandpa was extremely well done. Vegeta's "DAMN YOU!" was also pretty surprising.

Actually, Kami is dead at this point, and unless CN plans on running the Freeza saga uncut, he will remain dead.

But, yea. I wasn't expecting him to say damn you.

Great episode. I was shocked by the "Damn" as well. As for swearing in other sagas, I'm not so sure about the later Cell saga, but during the Afterlife Tournament saga, there are a few mentions to Hell though not in a way it could be considered swearing, including one sequence which was rather funny. As for Frieza saga, there's one moment in the episode where Porunga sends everyone but Goku and Frieza back to Earth where Vegeta is walking around and thinks to himself, "Maybe I didn't come back to life. Maybe this is Hell."

In the uncut versions, they mention Hell in the Other World Tournament saga. Grand Kai (I've only seen the dub of these) tells Paikuhan and Goku to go to hell and beat the crap out of Freeza, Cell, and all them guys.

All the Hell references were cut out of the TV version, but Dende's famous line remained intact for some reason... "Don't piss off the God of Love!" Very cool.

"Pikkon, I need you to go to Hell. You too, Goku.

Funniest dialogue I've heard in a while.

Still... Saiyan:2, Namek: none so far, Android/Buu: ?

Don't tell me about times they used swears in the movies or hell refering to the place (they don't count, nether does the God of Love)

Actually, Dragonball has used a lot of swears (never watched the uncut version, but DB Uncensored mentioned a lot of swears taken out during the Piccolo arc) and GT had at least one (to be exact, the dub of episode 18).

(The main reason I haven't watched the uncut DVDs of Dragonball is because I want to get them in order (Damn contract :? .).)

I love that line. Really surprising that they'd put that in the FUNi dub. It went something like this:

Grand Kai:
Listen Pikkon, I need you to go straight to Hell for me.
Goku: That's not very nice..

So yeah, they do use the word Hell toward the end of the series. As for other curse words, I don't think there are any.

There is a rare instance in the latter part of the "Fusion saga" where Buu takes a dump in a self-cuncocted porter and literally knocks Hercule and Dende out with the stench. When they come to, Hercule gets into his self proclaimed "world hero" stance and says "Heh heh, that toxic ass can't finish me. And yes, this was in FUNi's dub, I haven't seen the edit version so I don't know what they used in place of it. FUNi English episode 259; Mind Trap.
