I wonder, have they ever ported PSP games to PS3 before?
How would people feel able a SB, SBAR and TTT HD collection port?

Of course it can be ported, but would it scale and work well? The answer is no because the models were made specifically for the PSP which is small (even from source).
They would have to use new stuff.

Yes. They even have a name for it: "PSP Remasters" (not all of them fall under this title [see GoW below], though).Saiga wrote:I wonder, have they ever ported PSP games to PS3 before?
The two God of War PSP games were remastered for the PS3 (God of War: Origins Collection pack), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was remastered for the PS3, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was remastered for the PS3 (I think that was actually the first one announced)... and... I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

I don't have PS3, so I'm really curious, how the games ported from PSP look like, as their graphics is something between PS-PS2, so it doesn't look like hell as I'm looking on scaled down monitor. I can't imagine that on TV.

Ah, Vegetto beat me to it. But yeah, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was the first of the PSP Remasters, And yes it looks good.
Some monsters seem to have better detail than the ones from Monster Hunter 3(Wii).

Re: Possible HD collections??? (Read)
I'm not sure if this is sarcasm, but if it's not, then no it's far harder than a "cake walk" especially given the fact that Namco Bandai and Spike have absolutely no experience with either of those middleware engines, one of which has a notoriety for being difficult to use - especially for fighting games. I'm also confused as to why they'd even want to port their code into another engine.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:If they have the source files they could easily re-rending the graphics very easily with a modern game engine (rendering in Unreal Engine 3 and CryEngine 3 is a cake walk, coding shaders is fun^^)
Who is "they"? As noted above PSP games have been ported to PS3 (Sony even has developer tools for this), but neither Namco Bandai or Spike have done that.Saiga wrote:I wonder, have they ever ported PSP games to PS3 before?
It depends on the games. Many PSP games had their assets developed with resolutions beyond what PSP can handle. For example, Ready At Dawn's God of War: Origins Collection looks pretty nice though obviously not up to PS3 graphics due to lower poly counts and such. Though, the added anti-aliasing, and removal of dithering makes PSP games on PS3 noticeably better in terms of visuals.MCDaveG wrote:I don't have PS3, so I'm really curious, how the games ported from PSP look like, as their graphics is something between PS-PS2, so it doesn't look like hell as I'm looking on scaled down monitor. "I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

I posted this already but I guess a lot of people missed it. It talks about the PSP God of War games and how they were ported to the PS3. I think it will clear a few things up for the people asking about PSP to PS3 ports.MCDaveG wrote:I don't have PS3, so I'm really curious, how the games ported from PSP look like, as their graphics is something between PS-PS2, so it doesn't look like hell as I'm looking on scaled down monitor. So yes it's possible, and it can look real nice if put into the right hands.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Re: Possible HD collections??? (Read)
If done right, they could make a good port of the PSP games, but.....Seriously? They did the God of War PSP Collection because (that franchise still sells) it was all new backstories to the character.
What about the PSP Dragon Ball games warrants a PS3 release? The extended Movie 12 story? The Future Trunks Boo Arc with the god-awful endless fighting of the damn villain clones? The Sparking tag team fighting that seems a lot more fun one-on-one but really shows how shallow it is? (The Evolution story?)
Shin Budokais? Infinite World, solid gameplay from those, a loooooot more characters and story, fun mini-games (running on the Serpentine Road and shooting Piccolo as Freeza, come on now). Tag Vs? Sparking Meteor.
Honestly, I'd rather they go out of their way to also include Sagas. The reasoning for that is that I've never played it and I need a nerdy drinking game to play with some friends.

Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team looked very much alike Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for PS2, the graphics were similar and gameplay too so turning DBZ:TTT (Tag VS) to HD doesn't seem likely, unless it's remastered properly.
Shin Budokai 1 + 2 and Dragon Ball Evolution as I remember looked fantastic on the PSP, even if they were to be released as upscales, it'd be pretty cool to play on the big screen.
Well, it is possible, but with a PSPgo or a hacked PSP (regardless of what model it is), I owned the official Sony TV PSP cable and the damn thing wouldn't let me play the games on my TV only watch videos and listen to music.

Indeed, 60 FPS is not a new current gen thing at all. Nintendo's being doing it since the N64.DarkPrince_92 wrote:It already does that. Lol.mysticboy wrote:BT3 running at 60 fps would look nice.

Looks like the HD Sparking we're getting is "Sparking! Omega"....yay?
I don't know if I'm supposed to be moderately excited or moderately underwhelmed.

If Sparking Omega is really a new game then what's the point of having this HD collection?

They might end up being one in the same. There is Sparking in the title as if to say "we are going back to old ways" and it's easy to see that getting lost in translation as some sort of HD collection. Especially when there are nothing but rumors floating around. In any case, I like Sparking Omega better. One (truly) HD game trying to go back to the Sparking days might not be a bad thing. Not saying it will be amazing but it could be Spike's best game this gen.Hellspawn28 wrote:If Sparking Omega is really a new game then what's the point of having this HD collection?

Re: Possible HD collections??? (Read)
The difference between all three of those examples and this game series is that each of them is their own, distinct, separate experience. Yes, God of War and God of War 2 are both action games staring Kratos, but the stories, stages, bosses, etc. are all different.
Near as I can tell/remember, every single stage, character, and piece of music in Sparking! is still there in Sparking! METEOR. The only stuff you're "missing" are some of the single-player experiences that shape the game (story modes, what ifs, etc.) -- but the underlying game itself is basically the same thing, just improved upon. You could attempt to say the same thing about God of War (you're Kratos hitting things in each game!), but it's nowhere near the same as comparing yearly iterations of a fighting game.
I'm starting to think (and hope) this "HD" or "HD Collection" or "Budokai Tenkaichi Collection" may actually just end up being OMEGA. Maybe it was never intended to be a "collection" all along. That would certainly explain the full $59.99 MSRP we've seen listed for it.
It would be far beyond stupid to release an HD version of any of the original three Sparking! games prior to OMEGA for anything other than a novelty $9.99 download -- the new game, if it ends up being what it appears to be slated as, would far surpass that exact same experience with everything and more than everything people would expect from METEOR, rendering it completely useless. OMEGA *would be* an HD version of METEOR... and then some.
