I found that the Japanese voices matched up much better than the English words...They make the game much more enjoyable.

These new in-game models are somewhat refreshing, and the fact that they are separate characters sorta make this more enojyable if you want to recreate fights. Plus, a lot of the characters have their own specials for each of their forms.

I'm loving this game so far.

whoah, whoah, whoah.. what the hell..

In Goku's Super Saiyan profile, it says a Super Saiyan's power level is fifty times greater than the normal state. Didn't King Kai say it was SEVEN?

I don't remember any official statement being made, but I believe most put it at ~50x for SSJ Son Gokuu, since he was officially using Kaioken x20 against Freeza.

Ya, the general accepted number is 50. It's what the Daizenshuu shows as well. And since, as Corey said, Goku was using Kaio Ken x 20 against Freeza, well, 7 doesn't make sense.

Well I'm a long time viewer of the site first time poster, so hi all.

Anyway, after having completed all the story modes 100% (except for the last Z gate you need to open with the DBs) I decided to work on the Ultimate Battle mode, you know beat 100 of the characters and such.

Going in as Ultimate Gohan it didn't become hard until battle 15, which was good cause I like a challenge.

And then there was the final fighter, the number one man at the top. Regular good ol' Son Goku. Welp he's near impossible to beat. Having fought him the rest of the game honestly seems like cake. I still can't beat him and I've been trying for over an hour now, and I want to smash my system to bits for the first time ever. His defense is just plain unfair and his ability to kill you, while hes in red and your still in freakin' green with just little chi blasts alone is frustrating as all hell.

Bleh, if anyone's beaten him i'd love to hear how the hell you did it lol.

**Oh and for anyone stuck on any survive before the time ends battles in story mode heres a real cheap way to win:

punch, punch, energy. rinse and repeat. you'll do two normal attacks and when you hit triangle just tap it. It will stun the comp for a sec and give you time to hit em twice again and then do the energy attack to stun. only time this doesn't work is on badies that don't flinch when you punch them.**

"Super Sonic Warriors" tried to do the same thing but mixed in too much of the MVC/CVS team play aspect.
I agree, Legends still remains my fave DBZ game I think, it was really something else, even if it was really simple, it had a steep learning curve to master the teleport counters and long chains. I wish Atari would release it stateside, even with Super Sonic Warriors bearing a bit of its style.

Super Sonic Warriors was almost as good, but I kinda hated only having Goku and Cell able to teleport on their own...which kinda sucked...and no having 2-3 of the same guy in your team to "switch/teleport" doesnt count. More characters would of been welcome too.

Budokai Tenkaichi I think definitly delivers in all the important areas that make a DBZ game worthwhile -

I. The huge amount of characters

II. Simple controls, yet require good reflexes and timing to master

III. FREEDOM (Very important!)

IV. Fast Paced Action

If Spike gets another shot at doing a sequal though, I want some Online play! I also think Hori should release their own DragonBall Z fighting stick like they do for most of Namco's fighters every year. I mean let's face it., Nubytech's licensed pads for the majority suck, as do their sticks.

I played BT with my Tekken 5 stick and I think it works a lot better. Those big sexy arcade style buttons just feel so much better than the dinky PS2's pad, and there's so much more room, your hands can relax =3

Funny, I always thought that Legends is the most overrated DBZ game of all time, because all characters are played in a very simple way, and the array of moves is extremely limited (two forms of attacks basically).
Add the fact that it's easy as hell, and you have a plain mediocre game, although it DID capture the essence of Dragon Ball fairly well for its day and age.

As for Tenkaichi, I'm not planning on buying it for the next few months, for two reasons: a) it sounds a lot worse than I thought it would be, and b) it's filled with bugs and glitches. I think I'll wait for a "Greatest Hits" version, with reduced price and with the bugs fixed (I hope).

I think that Tenkaichi 2 (if there is going to be one) is going to be a lot improved in gameplay terms (like Budokai 2 was in comparison with 1).

Anyway, yeah. I think many gamers must "erase" the impression that Tenkaichi is an "evolved" Budokai. It's an action game; not a fighting game. If you realize that, I think you'll enjoy yourselves a lot more.
"Destiny"... people claim by force what they desire, wreak havoc upon others in order to acquire it... and they call it "destiny".

For me, DBZ sparking is the second best DBZ game of all time, behind DBZ legends.
DBZ legends may be simple, but what great fun it is!
The downside with sparking is the little tricky controllers, they're not bad or slow or anything like DBGT final bout for example, but, as my brother put it : "The ps2 pad just doesn't fit the game, there should've been a special pad with the game". I tottaly agree with this.
The game is quite awesome all in all, I'd give it 8/10, compared to 8.5/ for DBZ legends.

1. Not enough special moves

2. CPU is cheap as hell one second, then dumber than rocks the next.

3. Loading times (I hope there is a GameCube version...)
Loading times? Are they bad? I'm sure I read in a review they were only like 2 seconds long.

Regardless, I have a question. Does the game have to load again if you have to retry a fight? From what everyone's saying, I'll probably be losing quite a bit, and it'd be a pain to load the fight over and over, unless the load times are short.
I just came off playing X-Men Legends, and frequent, long load times are something I don't want in this game too.

EDIT: Right, here's where I read it.

"There's hardly any load times (about 2 seconds going into a fight)."

The loading times are not a problem. In fact, it's so short that I haven't even had a chance to see if the analog sticks do anything.

I agree, the loading times are minimal. Do the analog sticks do anything? Like Hendrix I've tried but haven't had enough time-and my Playstation 2 is VERY old and takes ages to load up a game from the browser.

I find the loading times are slightly above tolerable. It's nothing AWFUL, but it's there.

That said, does anyone have an ordered-list of the purple Potara? The one I had bookmarked is gone, and I'm retarded for not saving it. I'm perfectly fine reading characters' names, but some of those absurd ones with tons of kanji aren't exactly my forte :P. Just the purple ones are really all I need. Thanks!

Well, I finally picked up a copy. I must say, it is a brilliant game although I am not sure if it beats Budokai 3. It's very similar but also different, in light of that, it doesn't make it a 'worse' game but I'm not sure if it has become better.

I'm only disappointed with the so- called 'cut- scenes' they're appaling! And I'm also annoyed with the whole 'locating the dragon ball within the arena' because I find that I'm either going beserk on the COM or having my face pounded in giving me no time to blow up objects for the balls. VegettoEX has already commented on the 'approach' camera angle where the camera locks you and the opponent on to the screen making it hard to leave it which makes it all the more difficult to go dragon ball hunting!

Overall, 8.5/ 10! *Thumbs up*

The easiest way of getting all seven of the Dragonballs is in the first saga.
In the fight on Kami's Lookout, Chaotzu vs Tien, just knock Tien back then fly yourself through the lookout :D, pick up the dragonball then beat Tien (TIP: Use the rock throw to keep him at a distance and still beat him really quickly)

(BTW you can keep repeating this (though it does get a bit boring) until you get all seven)

Come on Guys... The Character models are worth the price of the game alone, some of my favorite looking characters so far would have to be USSJ Vegeta and Trunks, Bojack looks better then he did in his movie and SSJ2 teen Gohan looks great too. Overall the all the character look as though they were actually drawn. Good Job Spike!

I was wondering, is there a way in the dueling mode to select the alternate colors for characters? Some of them are pretty good like Kid Goku's which is his blue gi.
