Toriyama doesn't take Toriyama's word as absolute truth. Why should we?

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

It also doesn't help that Tarble wasn't really a very interesting character.
Also that Vegeta vehemently stated that he and Goku were the only full blooded Saiyans alive, of his knowledge at least. Vegeta ignores the crap out of him on purpose. Creating him to mostly point on that feels.. off.
Literally all you'd have to do is have Vegeta be surprised that Tarble is alive, and the problem is fixed...

Yeah, I suppose that much is true. Going back to Jaco, what about Bulma meeting an alien and then everyone being surprised to learn that aliens exist via Goku discovering he was a saiyan by Raditz? Do we chalk it up to she was just too young to remember or?

Ehhh... I'd chalk that up to Toriyama forgetting. I remember them being surprised to learn Goku's an alien, but totally forgot about the fact that they were surprised about the existence of aliens in general. Bulma forgetting doesn't work since she met Jaco a second time a maximum of 10 days prior to DB starting, with the implication that only hours go by between her second encounter and meeting Goku.

But I agree that I was disappointed in Vegeta knowing Tarble was alive. I fully agree with Rocketman on how the execution should have been handled.
