I saw a video on YouTube that someone had done in a theatre and when Vegeta turned into a SSGSS the audience erupted.

I never had much of a reaction to it when I saw the movie because I knew about it already but thinking about it there hasn't been much to show that Vegeta became a SSGSS in the marketing.

The dub trailer did show Goku transform into a SSGSS and a picture of it is commonly used when websites make news articles on it. Not seen much for Vegeta though so I suppose a lot of people didn't know about that hence the reaction it got.

Saw the movie yesterday night. Yes, when Vegeta went all SSJGSSJ, everybody cheered!!

Overall, the movie was great but there is a ton of explaining that needs to be done on some events. Perhaps DragonBall Super will do so?

Gave my 8 year old nephew the choice of watching Ant-Man or Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F. He chose Ant-Man.

Prob not going to get to watch it in theaters. Ah well.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Here is my personal experience going to see Resurrection F earlier this evening.

Now, I never thought that I would willingly watch the english dub again. I also never thought that I would pay $11.50 to go to a movie theater, nevermind going to a movie theater 40 miles from where I live. Well, let's just say that I shattered those expectations tonight, as I did exactly that, all at once.

I started my travels to the Ogden, Utah Cinemark theater immediately after work, turning on the music from DBZ Hit Song Collection 9. On my way down, I got a very good view of a thunderstorm that was passing over the area (I'm a thunderstorm fanatic...), beautiful lightning, it was fantastic. Obviously it was raining when I went inside, but who cares about that? Armed with two bottles of Mountain Dew, my 4-star Dragon ball, and a bucket of popcorn, I proceeded to seat myself in the front row, right behind the bars, with 20 minutes to spare. I casually watched the people as they entered the theater. Quite a few were wearing simple Dragon Ball t-shirts in the style of the Kame-senin outfit. At least one lady was wearing a scouter. And then there was one person is a full-blown Luffy costume, hat and all. The crowd was a good one... nobody was rowdy or anything, everybody laughed at the right moments, everybody was basically silent during the parts where it deserved it.

Alert: Spoilers below
In this next section, there'll be a few spoilers, so be warned.

The movie itself was quite funny at the start, I must say. I will personally say that Funimation is definitely going in the right direction with the English dub, and it's definitely been done justice in this film. Chris Ayers as Freeza was perfect. As far as I'm concerned, he could be Ryūsei Nakao in disguise while being a native English voice actor, because their voices sound really alike. Freeza's scream as he is beaten down to the ground by Goku is just fantastic. I actually like Bulma's new voice actor as well. (As a side note, I've sort of avoided Kai, but that's because I don't like the jarring animation transitions and stuff) On the way back home, I caught up with the very same storm I was driving towards on the way there, and caught a few good glimpses of lightning as I drove.

For my experience, these are my only nitpicks. The popcorn was sub-par at best, driving in the rain at night sucks, and the Sonic Drive-in that I went to didn't have a working Ice cream machine :problem:. Also, I have a bit of a problem with the dialog. In the Strawberry scene... Whis says that Beerus had eaten 4 strawberries, and he's eaten 3... then he says there were 8 strawberries total. So... wouldn't that leave one left for Whis?

So, I went to see this movie in France yesterday. It was great. Despite NO commercials whatsoever anywhere, the cinéma filled up. And I've been reading that the same thing happened in France many other places. So anyway, I got there quite early with a friend and then we met another guy from a french forum together with his younger sister. When we got in, there weren't too many people: I think they were thinking the same thing as us: since DBZ hasn't been on cable in forever (middle 90's) there wouldn't be too many people. But we couldn't have been more wrong, because it really filled up. Thankfully my friend got us good spots in the middle...

The crowd consisted mainly of 20-35 year old guys, i'd say about 80%, and the rest devided on women, plus a very few kids.

Before the movie started, they had contests to win Dragon Ball stuff where questions were asked, and there was a lottery. The first question was "What are Goku's sons named?", the second was "What is Vegeta's home planet called?" (in other words, stupidly easy questions and you should be ashamed if you can't answer those as a Dragon Ball fan).

After the goods were dealt, we were so lucky to get commercials (yay, or should I write nay?). And from start to end, the crowd were silent, except in hilarous moments.

All in all it was a great experience that I wouldn't have been without, and I don't see why people hate on this movie so much.Comments on the content in spoilers:

I saw it on one of the last days it was being shown in the states, and I went with my two friends who also love DB. The theater was nearly empty, and the movie was fantastic, and overall it was a great time.

It was a great time indeed. But I watched in 3D because there wasn't the 2D version available, and I don't like using glasses at all while watching a movie, mainly in the movies. I had a great experience since the movie was funny and had way more action than The Last: Naruto the Movie, which I watched not much time before.
It could had been even better, if the movie had an original plot and with an original villain, showing a lot of new stuff, and not retaining other characters under stupid reasons.

Attended the Birmingham UK screening. Great atmosphere, people of all ages and plenty of cosplay. The movie itself was excellent, Toriyama at his very best, doing what he excels at-action and humour.
Moments of sheer brilliance from the likes of Krillin, Whis, and Jaco were laugh out loud funny!.

I loved Battle of Gods, but this is a different movie altogether in it's structure. A fast-paced action movie with moments of comic genius.
The FUNimation dub was amazing, the improvement in the quality has greatly improved since Kai, and I really am excited to hear what they can come up with for "The Final Chapters" & "Super".

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection "F" is Toriyama at his best, and whilst not everyone will agree, this movie is easily some of his best work since the Frieza Arc.

Please, bring on more, Toriyama Sensei!.

Just got back. Got there so early that we saw the last 15 mins of Tom Hardy's Legend film

Anyway on to film! Saw it at Odeon broadway Plaza Bham. It was pretty packed to be fair. Infact the guy at the box office told us they had to move the screen downstairs to the bigger one! That's Dragon Ball for ya! All sorts of people turned up, all sorts of ethnic groups, think I saw a couple of children too, people with the partners or gang of groups like us! It wasn't too packed like you couldn't breath but it didn't feel empty either, just right. As for the actual experience.... best theatre experience ever!!! People laughed and clapped when they were supposed to and it was great! Bulma's screw you got the biggest laugh of all and Jaco stole the show as expected when he popped up on screen again some guy went "yes!" Ha! The banter between Goku and Vegeta also resulted in huge laughter nearly all the scenes they were in and Freeza final cuss at Vegeta being Prince of no one got a "ohhhhh shit" reaction. Amazing experience. The film itself was amazin as expected going into more deatails in the other threat vut I will say this, miles better than BoG by far (and I really loved BoG too!) 13/10! Good Stuff!

For a niche release it really felt like an "Event" movie, the venue was mostly filled and there was a lot of energy, everyone was laughing at the humorous moments and at the edge of their seats when the action got intense.

There was a good mix of teenagers and young adults going in groups, some going with their significant others, didn't see a lot of kids (although the movie definitely brought out the kid in everyone  ).

I didn't see any cosplays, but a few people wore Dragon Ball shirts, and one girl was carrying a Vegeta stuffed toy, so it was nice to see fans going out of their way to commemorate the occasion.

Also, I've said before that I've been impressed with how much the Funimation cast have improved based on their work in Kai, and the last two movies, hearing them on the big screen with surround sound was just phenomenal, it goes to show you can watch a movie in your sitting room, on a computer or a tablet but nothing beats the cinematic experience.

I'm delighted the movie has been a huge success for MangaUK and hopefully their fortunes will continue so that they can bring Dragon Ball Super movies (if they're released) to Ireland and the UK too.

Just got back from the Dudley showing. Having seen the film in Japanese cinemas already (and in English via more questionable means), I wasn't exactly attending for the sake of the on-screen content. I was more interested in seeing what the audience turn out and reaction would be like. It was pretty much 100% full, aside from a couple of odd seats dotted around here and there. I was quite surprised to see a few cosplayers in the audience; one was dressed as Bulma, and the other was essentially wearing what Mike has as his avatar. Considering how little I hear of Dragon Ball in the UK these days, it was a pretty cool surprise.

The film seemed to go over quite well, though it definitely felt like 90% of the audience had already seen the film. They laughed at all of the jokes, but the turning points got very little reaction. It was only Goku tanking Freeza's punch that warranted anything audible. Unsurprisingly, the ending was met with a lot of "That's it?" type of responses. I heard a few people who were clearly seeing it for the first time say "I'm pleased with that. That was very fulfilling", so I guess it went down well with some people.

I'm glad I went. It was definitely a very different experience from watching it in Japanese theaters. You could definitely feel the influence of TeamFourStar, at certain points -- anything pertaining to their jokes got a hefty laugh, even if the scene didn't contextually warrant it. On a similar note, while I never agreed with the sentiment that the Battle of Gods dub was funnier than the Japanese, I do feel this film's dub has a slight edge in that regard. While many things I found funny in Japanese didn't even get a chuckle from me in English, I'd say there were many more lines on the whole that made me laugh a lot harder in English than in Japanese. That may well have been to do with the crowd -- I'm not 100% sure yet -- but that's where I stand, currently.

Either way, I still don't particularly like the film as a whole, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't enjoyed the atmosphere of each of my viewings. Good stuff.

Oops I posted my Cinema experiance in the official ROF thread. Did everyone get the little figurines they were giving out? My friend gave me his Freeza one so I managed to get both (His girlfriend wanted the Freeza one back after she watched the film ). They're pretty nice but I have no idea what to do with them.

So the Dudley one was pretty full huh? I was planning on going to that one but the showing was too late. Whether it'll be busy on Saturday I'll have to see.

I'd hope it's be somewhat full because it's better for the movie. It'll certainly be a different experience going to see a DBZ movie in theatres over here anyway.

What kind of average age range are you people getting?

Yeah, Dudley was very busy. The average age seemed to be 20 and over. There was only one kid in the entire theatre.

Yeah, that was my experience too. I felt that RoF, while not bad, was one of the weaker DBZ films made, and certainly a few steps down from BoG. So, as a movie? Eh, it was OK. As a theater-going experience, though? One of the best in my life. I really regret that I didn't get the chance to see BoG in theaters, and sincerely hope Toei considers another movie, if only so I can have the opportunity to re-live the theater-going experience.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

After seeing the film, I took some time to collect my thoughts and give a definitive review of the experience and film. The Surrey Quays screening was about 70% full but the majority of the people in the screening were adults and teenagers, men and women, with only a few of the audience members being children or pre-teens. The film got many loud laughs from the audience. Especially from Jaco's antics. There were few "oohs" and "aahs" from when the Z-Warriors took on Feeza's army. There was also an audible sound of disappoint from the audience when Gohan sheepishly said he thinks could still transform into a Super Saiyan. I also heard some say "Wrecked!" right behind me when Freeza called Vegeta a "Prince of nobody." That was awesome. The loudest reaction from the audience though was when Vegeta became a SSJGSSJ and kicked Freeza's ass. The crowd loved every moment of that. There were also dead silence for when Freeza blew up the planet. Overall, the audience loved the film and behaved excellently throughout it. One major complaint about the experience I had though was that about 10% of the screen was cut. I mean, what the F!?

Now, for the film itself. First, the negatives. Lets start with the big one: The ending. Okay, the whole purpose of the film was to explore the major flaws within people, and yet when Goku and Vegeta know about their flaws and experience the consequences from their shortcomings, they still didn't learn anything. So what was the whole point of exploring their shortcomings if it didn't do anything to change or develop their characters? I mean, holy shit, that was incredibly anticlimactic and poorly handled. I know this was 94 minute film, but I feel as though things could have been wrapped up more neatly. The CGI, will it blended okay in some regard, stuck out like a sore thumb in others. It was better than CGI that was in BOG, but that is by no mean a compliment. Scrap CGI on future movies Toei, it just ain't working. Okay I gotta blunt, I started to care less and less about SSJGSSJ Goku vs Golden Freeza as the fight went on. Even for a 94 minute film, this fight felt like it lasted a bit too long for its own good. Also, I didn't like that Beerus was really just a spectator. I know he was the main antagonist in the last DBZ movie, but I felt as though he could have contributed more to the plot than just to be a bystander and gush over food.

Now, onto the positives. The majority of the fight scenes were bloody spectacular, with the highlight being the Z-Warriors taking on Freeza's army. Goku and Vegeta training with Whis and SBG Goku vs Final Form Freeza were also fantastic. Seriously, the movie had some of the best fight choreography the franchise has ever seen. The FUNi dub was magnificent. The best dubbing for anything Dragon Ball related, ever. Schemmel, Sabat and Rail all brought their A-game, Ayres killed it as Freeza (as expected) and Haberkorn really delivered as Jaco. The soundtrack was also fantastic. Sumitomo's best work yet. The comedy was also very well done. I legit laughed out loud at Jaco drawing of Freeza, as did all of the audience. Jaco seriously stole the show; he was amazing in practically every scene he was in. The animations as a whole was also gorgeous.

Now, was the movie as good as Battle Of Gods? No, not in my opinion. But as a standalone 94 minute animated movie, it holds up really damn well, even if you're not a DBZ fan. If BOG was 9.5 on my scale of enjoyment, then Resurrection F is an 9. A really damn good Dragon Ball Z movie in its own self-contained regard.

Edit: I forgot to note that there were trailers shown before the movie, which was a bit surprising to me. The movie was also only in 2D.
Edit (2): Nobody stuck around for the post-credit scene. Which was a shame.

I went to the Dudley screening too, and I almost struggled to find a seat when I got in two or three minutes into the ads. I think it may have been completely full, which certainly bodes well for future anime screenings and DBZ in general. The only proper cosplayer I noticed was someone wearing a pink "B*****b Princess" shirt (referencing Team Four Star).
The jokes mostly got good reactions, which always makes movies much more enjoyable. I don't think the line about 18 being stronger than Krillin and Chaozu and Yamucha not being strong enough to fight were supposed to be jokes, but they both got a laugh anyway. No laughs that I could hear at Krillin's ringtone though. My only issue is that the audio quality sounded a little harsh and over amplified, but that might be just me.
The film was pretty good, although I would have liked something a bit more substantial for the story. Still, they hit the mark when it came to balancing the humor and action and it was a load of fun. As expected, the English dub was up to the usual post-Kai high standard.
Manga announced the date of the Boruto screenings as the last trailer as well, via a very heavily compressed and low resolution poster that did not look like it was meant to be blown up to cinema size. And of course, there was the free Goku phone charm and I spent about ten minutes trying to work out if the plastic inside can come out of the rubber outer without damaging it (it can, but it doesn't feel like it should).
It good to hear that these screenings have been going well and hopefully UK anime cinema releases will become a regular thing. It'll be interesting to see how Boruto fairs, given that Naruto isn't as well known as Dragon Ball and will be screened subtitled rather than dubbed.

Didn't they say this was the widest release an anime movie had received in UK?
