Yeah... I agree. But my, my, my... hasn't FUNimation grown up and found something that sounds better than the original.

Watched my new DVD of it today. I started with the JP version, which was (obviously) fantastic, and much better than the Fansub I watched a couple years back in terrible, terrible quality.

I checked out some bits and pieces of the Dub. Particularly the opening, Paikuhan breaking the barrier, Goku ascending to Super Saiyan level 3, Vegeta attacking Janemba, Gohan killing Freeza, and Gogeta killing Janemba.

- The music wasn't crappy, but it wasn't great. It got really repetitive in the death of Janemba.

- Paikuhan did sound much more forced then he did back in 2001.

- Gogeta's lines...sucked. Terrible. TERRIBLE.

- The entire scene around Freeza's death felt really unnatural.

All in all, it was just as good as the Movie 6, 9, and 11 dubs, which are Funi's best work on the movies, in my opinion.

Well, Masenko, page two of this same thread gives us an answer from someone who saw the dub version weeks ahead of its actual release:

11 was good? My gawd man... I must have hit a time paradox.

But, then again, I also felt that movie 4 was their best [music, feel, and dubbing]. 5 was okay, 6... so-so. And 7 and beyond, have not seen dubbed. :P [Note to self... rent 8-11, and watch 7 when possible.]

Did anyone else find the dub of this movie incredibly homo-erotic?

I'm not saying this to be funny or mean or anything.. But.... MAN! I was definitely feeling something between Goku and Vegeta.

"There's no sense in fighting. It's been a while since we've seen each other."

"Grab a hold of me, Vegeta. We really don't have any time to spare."

"Well, hey, so what if it looks a little funny? It's the end result that we're concerned with. Besides, we're all alone out here. No one's going to see us."

"Vegeta, thanks.

"For what? I should be thanking you, Kakarott."

"Nah. What do you mean? I loved every minute!"

Then again, I might be crazy and part of me's always been a "Vegeta wants Goku" conspiracy theorist for a long time.

Plus I watched Brokeback Mountain the other day. Hmm.

Uh can we not forget the classic Budokai 2 dialogue during the Vegito fusion?

Goku: Vegeta! Quick! Put this in your ear!

Vegeta: Give it to me quick!

Yeah, I knew that someone would mention it.

To me, the dub's portrayal has always set a tone that amplifies a close and most unusual on-and-off friendship between the two, but there's no avoiding that a few of the lines in Fusion Reborn sorta push it into that odd and uncomfortable realm where automatically I knew that some people would catch a homosexual vibe from it . . . but since I don't see it exactly that way, I still enjoy it.

Still, isn't there just always at least that one dub line in every movie that makes you wonder why the hell they chose that particular line?

I am a Goku/Vegeta fan. That is my favourite movie. I will try not to babble out a fangurlish squeal of 'OMGYESYESYES!!!!'

Mushy expressions, mushy dialogue, (moreso in the japanese version, which also had a tad of mushy music) I'll just tell you fellas, us yaoi fangurls call that the -yaoi- movie.

(not even including the movie theme tune there...)

*tries VERY VERY hard not to babble and squeal*

It's the intense level of emotional bonding, whether you find that friendship or romance, (I like to call it the 'fine line') It's probably what makes the movie so great. :D

Everyone I know, and everyone who I know knows who has watched this movie, has found it, 'homo-erotic' so to speak. Heck, my sister, (on my french DVD) didn't even get past the loading screen before she was making jokes about it. My best friend's brother refuses to watch it *tilts head* In other words, you're definately not alone.

I supose I'm disapointed that my two favourite bits changed a bit. When Goku 'accidently' (who knows) pats Vegeta and he yells 'Don't touch me!' (which was ignored totaly in the dub *blink*) and the romantic - uh, I mean (sorry, yaoi-fan, I claim insanity) music at the end didn't have an equal partner in the dub *shrugs*

^_^;

The 'go, hide' bit was also lost, I thought that was entirely noble of Goku, and showing intelligence... Usually when it comes to other people's emotions, such as fear and sorrow (just look at the Cell saga) he shows total ignorance.

Wasn't there something in Budoukai 3 about them hiding in the bushes? XD *Forgets the details as it's been a while since she played*. I remember I burst out laughing upon reading it.

Yeah, but Goku interpreted it as Vegeta needing to "go". Although the "You're right, this is much better!" thing afterwards...

Anyway, I haven't seen the movie dubbed, but I have it fansubbed and I found it slightly hinty. Not quite the level the fangirls make it, though... (And I am a gay man, so I have a similiar perspective of it.)

I HATE the idea of Goku and Vegeta being Yaoi. No offense to any fangirls, but not only is it creepy, but it totally doesn't fit their character. If Vegeta has a hard enough time showing emotions to women, then I can't imagine him being gay. I doubt Goku even has the slightest grasp what gay is anyway. :D

Anyway, I have always viewed Goku and Vegeta to have a brother sort of relationship, with Vegeta being the older brother who got spoiled, and Goku being the younger brother with greater potential then Vegeta could ever see. They don't always enjoy each other's company, but in a brother bond starts forming betwee them, most notibly in the Buu saga. The way they worked together and how Goku didn't want to kill Vegeta to save Buu, Vegeta saving Goku several times, etc etc just reminded me of brothers for some reason.

Anyway, I am going to Blockbuster tonight to rent it, hope it's good. I have a fansub from my older brother, although quality suffers, yadda yadda yadda.

Is there a Spanish audio? I'd like to know cause I am learning Spanish.

As someone who's also been taking spanish classes, I wish the movie did have that track, but it doesn't. :(
The only dbz dvd I know of that Funi released the spanish dub onto was the very first redub dvd.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Only Movie 5 unfortunately...

And on the homo-erotic dialougue issue: one of the dub lines says it all:

"Remember Vegeta: One body, one mind, one soul!" XD

We dont need any Brokeback Mountain jokes here folks. :p

Anyway, I watched this thing last night and hated it. Quite possibly the worst movie Funi has dubbed. The music was awful, it made me want Faulconer back, or at least Mark Menza. It was too distracting and too random. We didnt need crazy guitar riffs in this movie either. It mightve been me but the music track seemed to be louder than the voice track at certian points. Fat Gojiita "Veku" was just god awful. He sounded like a weird mix of Sabat's Kuwabara and Schemmel's King Kai. Speaking of Sabat, I've always hated him as a voice actor. He's a no talent hack that made me hate Vejiita as a character. But enough about Sabat.

Herber'ts Paikuhan was just terrible(I'm running out of words). I didnt mind him at all in the actuall dub of the series, but he, wow, it was just like Kyle wasnt even trying. The voice he gave him seemed totaly different than what was in the series. It was too much like his Gohan voice. The script wasnt as bad as it couldve been. For the most part, it was pretty close to the fansub I have. The added/changed lines werent really all that bad. I actualy liked the bonding between Goku and Vejiita :p.

Did I actually like anything about the movie? Sean Schemmel. His Goku never ceases to amaze me. All in all I'm really glad I got this from Blockbuster and saved my money.

Ok, I'm done.

I watched the dub in it's entirety (since my last post) and I will never watch it again. So many little, yet enraging details were altered to the point that I just wanted to scream.

Especially what they did to the end when Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Videl are flying home! They didn't even look at the original dialogue, they just made that crap up!!

Horrible. Funi was doing alright with the dubbings of some of the recent movies (NOTE - I didn't mean that 11 was a good movie, just that it was dubbed well) but this was like Season 3 with better voice acting a much worse music. I am sickened.
