For what it's worth, the credits are in Japanese and the Japanese audio is the same as in Selecta's previous release, which sounded pretty good.

Bright and washed out, which is bad enough on its own, but that process also removes detail. The fact that these come from 35mm stock means there's actually more detail to pick up, so washing it away is even more egregious here than it is with the TV series.Enigmo wrote:still don't get what's to hate about the funi blurays of the movies

I don't mind them, some are good looking, however there are issues with them and a new HD transfer would've been more interesting than a re-release of FUNi's blurays.Enigmo wrote:still don't get what's to hate about the funi blurays of the movies

To me they look just as ugly as the Orange Bricks, way too bright and overcontrasted. The colours are also wildly inaccurate at times, such as in Tree of Might, where brown colours suddenly become dark green.Enigmo wrote:still don't get what's to hate about the funi blurays of the movies

Yup, they're essentially just glorified Orange Bricks. They just look fractionally better due to the higher quality source material.Kakacarrottop wrote:To me they look just as ugly as the Orange Bricks, way too bright and overcontrasted. Re: Spain: DBZ movies will be released on Blu-Ray
Huh, so their source of the DBZ films in HD for the Blu-rays were Funimation's HD masters, well, to be honest I'm not surprised but at the same time I am a bit disappointed. I expected better of Selecta. Welp, time to cancel my order.sangofe wrote:Someone sent me this link with captures from the bds:

Enigmo, this. I already posted a screenshot of how the Double Feature Blu-rays have their flaws and why people dislike/hate them.VegettoEX wrote:Bright and washed out, which is bad enough on its own, but that process also removes detail. I'm getting this for the sake of the Japanese credits.

At least the credits are in japanese.

I told you firstkei17 wrote:I'm getting this for the sake of the Japanese credits.
Re: Spain: DBZ movies will be released on Blu-Ray
Hmm, but if this has japanese credits, how can it be FUNimation's video? Doesn't make sense. And it doesn't look any better than FUNimation's release, either.
Re: Spain: DBZ movies will be released on Blu-Ray
So this company basically lied through its teeth about the new transfer, right? Or did Toei lie to them about the nature of the materials it provided? I guess both are likely explanations.

Re: Spain: DBZ movies will be released on Blu-Ray
I am no video expert, but FUNimation might have applied their remastering process to the entire scanned movie before going back and putting in their own credits, so they might have just sent the Spanish company the footage from before that second step.sangofe wrote:Hmm, but if this has japanese credits, how can it be FUNimation's video? I'm willing to bet Toei was the company that sent the materials, not Funimation. Toei probably has access to the remasters its American partner creates and decided to send one to this Spanish company, rather than fund its own transfer.

Pretty much. I don't recall Selecta ever having any relationship with Funimation, which doesn't have the rights to distribution in Europe.ParkerAL wrote:I'm willing to bet Toei was the company that sent the materials, not Funimation. To be fair, this is a new transfer for them.ParkerAL wrote:So this company basically lied through its teeth about the new transfer, right? Or did Toei lie to them about the nature of the materials it provided? I guess both are likely explanations.
Re: Spain: DBZ movies will be released on Blu-Ray
True, that is a fair point. The company certainly wasn't thinking of our community here on Kanzenshuu when advertising these discs! But claiming the remastering had been done in Japan was still a bold claim to make. Of course, that selling pitch could just have easily resulted fromToei screwing with them and providing dishonest information. Hell, that might actually be the most likely explanation!eledoremassis02 wrote:To be fair, this is a new transfer for them.

Not just here but also their own fans were wary it'd be the Funimation footage.ParkerAL wrote:True, that is a fair point.
