Super Episode 117 (26 November 2017)
Re: Super Episode 117 (26 November 2017)
Highlight of this episode for me was 18 /17 relationship being treated so well. This is what I was expecting, not childish pettiness from 18, but legitimate team work. And I go that. This was supposed to be the weakest episode, but it ended up far better than expected. While I wasn't too happy about the execution behind 18 getting her determination, I liked the subtle parallel between the flashy, performative but ultimately shallow love that powered Ribrianne versus 18's real and grounded love for her family. And the final stretch of the fight, with 17 jumping in, was also neat.
What I'm on the fence about- Ribrianne herself. She got a lot of attention this arc and I didn't expect her to be vilified so much at the end, especially after she had that moment of self-doubt which hinted at more than just a gimmick driven character. But I guess , as others pointed out, even that moment was nothing more than another callback to something that is typical for the magical girl genre- having a team mate slap you back into believing in yourself all dramatic like.
And 18 isn't out yet. I liked that! Both because I want to see more of her and, to be honest, that this might mean it isn't Piccolo that goes out in 119.
Speaking of which-
I got so excited seeing that NEP because it looked so good and promising until I got to that frame that looks suspiciously like Piccolo sacrificing himself for Gohan and my excitement got shot right to hell. Please, please let it be just a flashback.

Re: Super Episode 117 (26 November 2017)
... I don't get it.
Ribrianne's transformation is ugly as fuck. This could imply that Ribrianne looks deep inside the soul to see true love and isn't interested in superficial beauty.
Yet she sees Krillin and dismisses him for being ugly, implying that love is all about superficial beauty. It doesn't make sense.
If they wanted to portray Ribrianne as a person who doesn't know what true love is (and learning what true love is via 18 and Krillin), they should've made her the most beautiful female character in Dragon Ball, and make her obsessed with superficial love. As it stands now, it doesn't make sense. If she doesn't care about superficial beauty (which is implied by her looks when she transforms), why did she condemn 18 and Krillin's love simply because Krillin is fugly? Is she a hypocrite? Is she an idiot? I just don't get it.
Other than that, amazing interaction with 18 and 17. Krillin giving 18 the moral boost she needed to keep going was also amazing. I like how my runt is still helping in winning fights even though he's out since ... time immemorial.
First time I saw Zeno talking and doing stuff (other than erasing universes) and didn't cringe.
Apparently I'm the only one that didn't joined the hate bandwagon when Vegeta got 'thrashed' because of trying to copy the UI mentality. I actually respect the man for trying to THINK and EARN the transformation instead of it JUST BEING HANDED TO HIM like SOME people I know.

I liked the episode, it was a solid one. The art was great and consistent, and the last cut of the Androids finally beating Ribrianne was absolutely great.
The interactions were also good in this episode, and the feeling of a Battle Royale was definitely there.
If an unimportant episode like this can be this good, then I'm very hyped to see how spectacular the climax of this arc will be. I'm glad Toei has finally fixed this show, production wise!

I really hope the last 3 U2 guys aren't all jobbers. The big blue guy has an interesting design, and seeing a tired and beaten up Goku dispatch them easily would be absurd.
At least have 17 or 18 finish them off. There's no reason they should leave Goku's side now that Ribrianne and Rozie are gone either.

I had forgotten how great the android duo used to be, now that the tournament is great again, it's enjoyment levels are rising by leaps and bounds

Ribrianne: Silly Android, Ugly people can't feel love!
You know, I didn't care much whether Brianne got her ass kicked out or not, but damn was I rooting for a beat down after she insulted the Kril-Master. I think the conversation between the twins was the best part of this episode, Super seems to remember that these two are supposed to be fucking siblings.
Also, WHAT THE FUCK ARE UNIVERSE 3 STILL DOING HERE!? I mean, I know I'm rooting for them, and I'm happy for them, but I know they ain't gonna get far, I know they're going down. So, it's like, just do it already. Put me out of my misery. JUST DO IT! DO IT, YA BASTARDS!

Yeah... I also really don't understand the anger towards Kale and Caulifla being eliminated in "a single episode". Their fight with Goku spanned 4 episodes. They also had episodes 100 and 101 dedicated to them in the tournament. They had plenty of screen time. Similar to what JazzMazz said, it felt like every other fight in the tournament stopped just so they could show the final fight between Goku and the female U6 Saiyans.JazzMazz wrote:Caulifla and Kale were involved in the longest fight of the ToP and the second longest fight of the show. The arc grinded to a halt to follow their fight and struggle. Saying your angry they got eliminated in a single episode(it was four) is like saying your angry that it only took 19 episodes for Goku to defeat Freeza and it should have been longer.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:Best character in the ToP is out and so am I. It was fun while it lasted, but fuck it I wanted her to be in the top 10. They already pissed me off by eliminating Kale and Cauli in a single episode and now they got rid of Ribrainne. And, Rosie too.![]()

Re: Super Episode 117 (26 November 2017)
Much like Episode 105, this was an episode that spectacularly over-delivered on it's very uninteresting premise on paper.
Despite not really being any special in terms of power, Ribrianne I still found her a quite entertaining character. I can certainly see why some fans may not like her, give how repetitive her speeches are, and it also got annoying and grating to me personally after her initial episode in the tournament. But I found her endearing, at least in her gag character specificity. I especially liked how humble and reflective she was in defeat. But.. yeah. Not going miss her terribly. If this is truly it for her as a character.
Zeno(s) imitating Rozie style of offense may me fall out of my chair in laughter. How can anyone stay mad at that guy? He's a riot.
Speaking of Rozie, I was so gutted she got eliminated. Out of all the Kamikaze Fireballs, I liked her presence the most. Oh well.
Android 18 and 17 interactions were the highlight of the episode. They were just so well done because of how mature, grounded and relatable the context of their conversations were. This was the kind of stuff I wanted to see in Tournament Of Power when it was announced that Android 17 would be returning to the show for the arc specifically. And I'm so glad they handled the two of them so well. The two of them teaming up to take down Giant Ribrianne was just cherry on top of the cake.
Android 18 breaking free from Ribrianne's love tentacle... trap... thing with the motivation of Krillin from the sidelines, as well of thinking of Krillin and Marron, was just wonderful. It reminded me a lot of Battle Of Gods, where Goku, in remembering who he was fighting to protect, gained second wind to prevent Beerus from destroying Earth. Awesome. When Super brings it's "A" game into characterization, it really is something to behold.
Android 18 and 17 fighting Giant Ribrianne felt like something out of Asura's Wrath. And I loved every fucking second of it.
Really great episode.

I think people hate Zeno because his personality and character basically summarizes to "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!" "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" as if he's trying to hype the viewers into being hyped. I didn't like any part of this episode. I thought it was really boring and it's a disappointment that someone like Ribrianne is such a weakling.
on another note;
I really don't understand where the hate for Ribrianne comes from. A large portion of the community has a really deep visceral hatred for her; and I just don't get where it comes from. She's a harmless inoffensive parody that spouts the virtues of affection. I also don't get what makes Ribrianne, Kakunsa, Rozie, Caulifla, Kale whores or bitches or whatever names get thrown at them all the time for no reason constantly; It just makes no sense for me.
Toppo is another obsese over the top parody and doesn't get this, also the saiyans in general get a million power ups that don't make sense. (Looking at you Frieza arc and Ultimate Gohan) and I don't see people calling them the worst of the worst slut/whores/bitches?

I don't think Rib was shown as really weak, but more than 18 was strong, especially when inspired by Krillin. I'm also surprised you didn't at least like the brief heart-to-heart 17 and 18 had.Yomi wrote:I didn't like any part of this episode. Very good and funny episode!
Zenos, kaioshin and ... poor crillin.
(Your husband is ugly!!! xD)
While i liked the combination of 1718, i'm very disappointed about ribrianne ... i expected a new powerfull trasformation but at the end we got a big and fat butterfly with no power :/ (oh sorry, power of looouuuvvee. Nah)
Next episode: Let's say goodbye to universe 2 and 6

It's exactly how I feel. We all have a pretty good guess that he's going to get some major screen time in the finale and he's already gotten so much more screen time than every other fighter. I'm not completely annoyed by it, simply due to the fact that it makes sense that other universes would attack him when he's weak. I just want to see more Piccolo and Gohan, so much more of those two. Even if they get an epic fight with the Namekians, it will be the only noteworthy thing they've done all tournament especially in Piccolo's case. I hope they get past the Nameks and have at least one more epic battle. They deserve it.Artorias wrote:My expectations were so low for this episode, the fact that it wasn't utter shit leaves me pretty content. Nothing too extraordinary, but it looked pretty decent for a Yashima solo episode (probably due to the great storyboard), and the ending bit was really fun. Nice character moment towards the beginning with 17 and 18 too, the kind of thing this tournament is sorely lacking so far.
Also, Kafla AND Ribrianne defeated back to back? Christmas came early.
In regards to next week, can they just go ONE episode without focusing on Goku? He's my favorite character by far, but even I'M getting sick of it at this point. Next week should've been entirely devoted to Piccolo and Gohan. No need to randomly have Goku in there fighting a bunch of jabronis we don't care about that we know aren't going to do anything to him. Let the man rest, Toei. Your ratings aren't going to tank because Goku wasn't on screen for a couple weeks.

I tolerate that because it perfectly fits with his child-like character.
