I'm kidding, but in all seriousness what is it supposed to be?
Yeah I didnt get it either

17 goes "aww so that's what your wish is"

And I'm still there going "so what is it. I still don't get it"

Lol

They did a great job of still keeping you in suspense and still having you left wondering what It is while giving you just enough to still speculate

People didn't love the Freeza scene? That was one of the best parts of the episode. Not everything has to be "important," but having another fun scene of Freeza going beserk and then being sucker punched into the comets was great.

Haha pretty much. The way you worded it actually made me laugh. Every time Frieza musters something up to reappear he gets beat down back into obscurity...very hilarious. That poor chick youtuber who loves Frieza

Or maybe they keep doing that to make you expect that pattern so that when Frieza re appears in the end he actually contributes something huge. I've talked about it in my theory thread

What's the point of it? I think for the past 3 episodes we've had a scene where Freeza charges at the enemy, gets blown away, and is then knocked out the rest of the episode. It's just repeating the same thing over and over again, making the character look like a complete fool.

It went unmentioned in the episode itself, but I presume 17 was able to land that surprise attack on Jiren was because his energy couldn't be detected. That's a neat little touch.

I honestly dont care if Jiren's backstory was generic. It was awesome to get Jiren backstory. Baby Jiren was so cute. I honestly got the feels for Jiren too. This episode 127 was amazing and covered a lot of things very well with great pacing and great execution

Btw, what was the score or theme with the guitar that was playing during the big 3 way battle? My gosh it was amazing and made that whole scene so much more epic. Loved it.

My theory. It's to condition the viewers to that pattern, only to subvert them when the Frieza appears for the final time and does what you didn't "see coming"

This panning out of camera and the launching looks eerily like the Episode 110 of UIO Goku punch vs Jiren.

Aww I didn't think about that. Very very nice touch indeed. This episode had a lot of those awesome little touches. Episode 127 was amazing. It joins episodes 110, 116, 118, 121, 123, and 125 as my all time favorites in Super

Well, I wouldn't go that far. It's one of the better ones of the final U11 fight, but that's not saying much. It had two big moments: a major character death and a backstory reveal about the main antagonist. Yet it didn't really do a good job of landing either of them. That's a letdown.

Animation and fight choreography were pretty good though. There were some creative sequences, and I like the way the broken up arena has shaken things up. It is a little convenient that no matter where Jiren hurls Goku and Vegeta, there always seems to be a chunk of floating rock to for them to land on, but what're you gonna do?

I'm surprised by the amount of complaints I've seen towards Jiren's backstory. Sure, it's cliché as fuck, but so is a lot of Dragon Ball. Someone pointed out the resemblance between Jiren and Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho after what unfolded in this episode, and I completely agree with that comparison. What I loved about Toguro was that he was an absolute monster with almost zero personality. It wasn't until very late into the Dark Tournament arc that we learned something about him. Same goes with Jiren. You're left with this ambiguity surrounding the character for the majority of the time, only to learn more about him way later on.

I've also come to like his character design as well. It's incredibly simple, but he can look absolutely terrifying when he needs to. The simple design is a reflection of his character... he has no character. His only purpose is to be strong as fuck. Just a strong dude with zero emotions. I mean fuck, it's in his name. He's called Jiren the Grey for a reason. No emotion. No attachments. Nothing. Just a super strong guy for Goku and his friends to take on. I get that some people want more out of their antagonists, but after something like Black/Zamasu, this is actually refreshing.

You both put too much confidence in Super's writers. If they can't even make the death of 17, a fan favorite character, be emotional at all, then I highly doubt they'd be good enough writers to pay enough attention to him not having energy. He caught him by surprise because he attacked from behind, that's all.

I don't think you found 17's death unemotional because the writing was bad, since it very much in line with how 17 would react if he were to sacrifice himself, I think the problem more lies with the direction of the scene.

What does your sentiment on whether 17’s sacrifice had a poignant effect or not have to do with the writer’s memory of 17’s undetectable energy?

You couldn't get more cliched if you tried. Just terrible. And what's even worse is that some people are somehow IMPRESSED with that?! Forgive me for being a little hostile, but have you ever seen another piece of fiction in your life? Seriously. Because that is the only type of person I can imagine that was truly interested in that lackluster excuse for a backstory even a little bit.
I know everyone has their standards, but I totally agree with you, that was the most generic, half-assed, cliche backstory you could deliver, there's too many rpg VGs, novels, action/drama movies, comics, cartoons shonen series, and etc. to list them all. That was a flat out 1/10 backstory not even worth anyone's time, I feel like I want a refund and I didn't even pay for anything for Pete Sakes.

Yeah, you're 100% right actually. The direction definitely was the culprit here.

But then again, I'm still 100% right about Super's writers, regardless

My point was that they're such lazy writers who can't even nail basic shit down that there's no way in hell they would put in the effort to do a little tidbit like that. Plus, most of the time they're very, very unsubtle in how they write. Now, this doesn't really apply for this scene as the problem was direction as previously mentioned, and there definitely are quite a few good writers but the bad ones are very noticeable.

Imo the most interesting thing from Jiren's backstory scene was how quick Belmod was to defend Jiren from 17's accusations.

Well, I wouldn't go that far.
It's actually not going that far at all lol. People calling it bad are going much farther then that in the other direction. And even if I did call it my greatest episode in Dragon Ball (thats going too far) it would still be my personal right to go that far. Its my opinion. I don't get why positive opinions are the opinions that are attacked most (in general that seems to be the case across all the internet)
