The first day I got the Season 1 set, I went straight for the Extras. And I just laughed to myself. It said, "Notice that the colors were kept original." I stared, just not able to speak. Then they were like, "Notice the additional side footage." Yeah...and i also noticed the missing vertical footage. After that little Extra feature was done, I laughed to myself. I'm just curious, who are they fooling? It's like they're telling you bullshit AS YOU'RE WATCHING. Like I can't tell that the colors are different and that there's missing vertical footage when the "before" and "after" shots are RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES. lol

See, that's why I feel like the DBZ community takes it to heart too much. I like the dub because I'm not really a typical Anime fan. I had most of the series in 4:3 when they started coming out with the sets. I compared them with my 4:3 TV and it seemed like the vertical imaging was practically the same. But then I compared them on my computer and I had a complete freak out and went and bought like $400 worth of DBZ of Ebay right then and there, completing my collection. I just play devil's advocate with the sets, trying to defend FUNimation in some way. Doesn't mean they're perfect. In fact, I prefer the 4:3. I'm just going to keep collecting the Season Sets because I like that I can watch the full image on my HDTV without any black bars or stretching, and I like that the image is smooth...even though the lines do disappear at times. But hey, honestly I never noticed until I was informed. After that oh yeah I notice lol. Anyways I'm half and half about them. Depends what mood I'm in lol But I just say it how it is really. There's positives and negatives. So there's mostly negatives about the sets, there are still some positives. And since I've seen all of the series in 4:3, whenever I want to go back and watch something, I find myself popping in a Season Set DVD lol I don't know why. But see, just because I play devil's advocate doesn't mean I think that their lying is fine.

In many of my posts, I did admit that a lot of the vertical image was missing as well as missing lines. I guess people overlook that
It's okay. Anyways, the biggest problem is that FUNimation basically lies while exposing you to both before and after shots. That is funny to me and I'd like to see the person that buys into that while watching it.

i mean, its not like theres any extra footage on this new one is there?

I don't mean to be a kill-joy, but has FUNimation really confirmed that we'll be able to listen to the dub with the Japanese music yet? I've looked through all the articles that elaborated on the release and all I've seen is where a FUNi rep said that "There will also be revised English dialogue and Japanese audio in 5.1 surround sound."Victator Supreme wrote:Dub will have the original music now. Thats more importent to me than cropping.
Yes, I know that this statement can be taken as an implication that the dub will feature the original music, but it can also mean a number of other things. If he had said "with Japanese audio" instead of "and Japanese audio" then it would make more sense, but as of now, I'm not entirely sure what "Japanese audio" he's talking about. Does he mean the Japanese language track or Japanese music in the dub? I'd like to assume the latter, but have we gotten any solid confirmation that this is what he meant? The trailer didn't mention anything about it, nor did the official site, both of which would be logical places to include this news.
Sorry if I missed something, and I know I'm being a party-pooper here, but since the Broli Blu-Ray lacked this particular option, I'm a little sceptical that FUNi's going to include Japanese music in the dub of anything besides the television series as of now.

It's true, I don't think they've confirmed it, but the fact that they took the time to re-record some things make me think that it'll have Dub with Original Music on it. That's just my hope, but why re-record if you aren't gonna have that as well?
Heh, I didn't know you were on the DaizEx forums too MagicBox. Glad to see ya. ^_^

Which is ironic, seeing how they were all "Finally, fans can watch the dub with the ORIGINAL MUSIC SCORE!!!!" And now they've removed that option from the movies. Doesn't matter to me, seeing how I don't watch the dub at all, but still...MagicBox wrote:Sorry if I missed something, and I know I'm being a party-pooper here, but since the Broli Blu-Ray lacked this particular option, I'm a little sceptical that FUNi's going to include Japanese music in the dub of anything besides the television series as of now.

I think that it is confirmed. And yeah they didn't release the Vegeta fight through the Namek Saga on 4:3, but I had the Vegeta vs Goku fight in 4:3 the Ocean dub version (on tape), so having it cropped matters little to me. It's not like I watch those episodes every day. In fact, I haven't watched the Namek Saga more than once since I've gotten the DVDs lol
Plus I don't have the Trunks or Bardock specials and I'm sorry, but paying $50 per each DVD on Ebay seems like a rip-off, when I can pay what is it, $30 or something, for both. So it'll be cropped. To me personally, it's not that huge of a deal.

^ Has Trunks and Bardock specials both in stock. I ordered Bardock from there, it showed up in perfect shape in like two days.
Just throwing that out there. I'm still gonna be picking this re-release up anyway, though, so long as the dub w/ JP music option is there. I wanna hear me some dub Bardock with Solid State Scouter splaying.

I thought Solid State Scouter was the song made for Sparking! Meteor?

Nope, it was originally this orgasmicly awesome piece of BGM used in the Bardock special. It's kinda come to be identified almost as like Bardock's theme song.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I thought Solid State Scouter was the song made for Sparking! Meteor?

By the way, that's a great site. Damn, if I wasn't saving my money to go on a trip with my friends in a couple of weeks, I'd snatch it right now. Hope it'll still be there when I get back. I want to own both versions of the show, 4:3 (as much as they released) and the Widescreen, so I wouldn't have to "choose".

This is something I've always been wondering about. I keep hearing people say that both the 4:3 releases are pretty hard to find now, but then I run into sites like the one Kaboom linked to that's got both of 'em at the readypledge wrote:also, why would you want to buy this 'digitally remastered' widescreen version when you can just pick up this <snip>

Regarding the Bardock special, I'm really hoping a few things are changed in the dub writing. The telepathy power can go G'bye, Bardock's final words to Freeza before he launches his last attack ("At last...My fate, Kakarrot's destiny, and your future...I'll change it all now!") can be retooled more appropriately, and Bardock's final words to Kakarrot can be to avenge the Saiyan race rather than redemption. Here's hoping.
14 years later
I don't know I think they'll most likely leave the dialogue the same. Using season one as a example, a lot of the dialogue is heard in the original season 1 when it was dubbed by Ocean. I'm pretty sure they're gonna fix some things though, but I don't expect a complete overhaul of the dialogue.Conan the SSJ wrote:Regarding the Bardock special, I'm really hoping a few things are changed in the dub writing.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.
