Sorry.I should have been more clear. I was talking about when Vegeta turned SSj in front of everyone and the androids for the first time. I liked the music in the dub better for that scene.

I can't really comment on Vegeta's first transformation, since I haven't seen it in Japanese.

From
" Is it always night time in Space? " Son Goku in his ship
To
" Sir. Issac Newton wouldn't have lived to tell the tale if one of THOSE apples had hit him! " Son Goku on Kaio Sama's planet.

Although the dub IS how I got into the show, when I went back and watched the original, there was just no comparason in not only the music, but the voices. Also, Characters have been TOTALLY changed (even the main character, Son Goku has been turned into a pretty annoying steriotypical super hero, who can spout off intellectual lines like the above quote).

One of the reasos I don't bash on the dub so much is because it's how I got into the series and anime in general. So, I can watch either or, and prefer Japanese in some instances, like Kami told Goku at the end of the 23rd Budokai dub, I never forgot where I came from.

I won't doubt the dub is lame at times, and I'll take you guys at your word that the Japanese is supposedly better, but there are two simple reasons why I like the dub better.

1.) It was my introduction. Well, technically, the Ocean dub was my introduction, but thats beside the point. The fact is, it's what I grew with. It's what I'm used to.

2.) If I want to read Dragonball, I'll read my copies of the manga. I don't understand a good bit of Japanese yet, and I'd rather pay attention to the action on screen, instead of having my focus taken away by reading the captions.

So, there you have it.

And I wouldn't have it or want it any other way, to tell you the truth.

And also it's very easy to "read" subtitles and keep up with the "action". I'm not insulting you, I'm just saying that it's a pretty big misconception for people that don't watched things subbed that the subtitles fly by at light speed and that they'll interfere with the action. I mean when I watched things subbed it doesn't feel like I'm reading at all.

Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

All with two flaps of the lips? XD
Yea subtitles do not get in the way of the action and can be read pretty quickly so it doesn't retract from what is actually happening.

I've never understood the "I don't want to read subtitles" sentiment, myself.

It almost always seems like a cover-up/alternate reason that's hiding some kind of underlying, "true-er" reason. Unless you suffer from dyslexia or some other type of impediment, I honestly can't see how it's an issue.

You typically finish reading the sub before the line is done being delivered, which gives you time to actually absorb it *and* correlate it to the acting/delivery that's taking place. Never in my life have I had a problem where I couldn't read the line in time, it distracted me from the "action" on-screen, etc... especially with all the recycled animation, you're not exactly missing anything ^_~. Furthermore, it's the actual dialogue from the scene, and unless you're watching an alternate production solely for sentimental value, I can't see why anyone wouldn't want the actual dialogue presented to them.

I've read people's reasonings for not wanting to read subtitles (such as presented in this thread), but even with explanation of those reasons, I still can't manage to really understand them.

Indeed. For me it only takes a 1 or 2 seconds to read the subtitles and go back to the action.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Hmm... Well, in that case, I'll give it a shot here later, once I get home.

The Funi DVD subs aren't changed from the original, are they?

Just make sure you switch on the Japanese audio before you put subtitles on, otherwise you'll end up watching the Japanese audion with "dubtitles"

I myself prefer the dub. I like to be able to hear it and understand it. I don't really have anything against the japanese version except I can't understand it and don't want to learn japanese.

The japanese version has MUCH better music as seems to be the general consensus (I said general).

On the other hand I strongly dislike adult Goku's woman voice. But also hate Freeza's grandma voice as well.

So to me it's a tossup I just don't know japanese.

However, my biggest peeve is when people think they are more of a fan then others because they watch the japanese version. Your not, so shut the fuck up. I have seen this from time to time on these boards however most of the time people give good reasons for watching both versions.

On these boards, I very rarely see someone actually, honestly, truly, legitimately say right there in plain view: "I am a better fan than you because [insert statement here]!" That would result in an almost immediate ban. You're either making things up, remembering incorrectly, or are confusing people/posts here with people/posts made elsewhere.

I wish I'd gotten here earlier. I wanted to add to the discussion about #16. I always though FUNimation was trying to make him sound like the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger, not Robert Patrick).

Ok, thats awesome to hear.

What about in the original "three episode" DVDs? Specifically the ones from the Saiyaman arc?

Good point! That's all I can say! I hadn't watched the dub in so long that I forgot about this line entirely.
