Non-thread-worthy discussions
Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
So back reading the manga at the Saiyan arc portion, it is said that Shenron can't destroy the Saiyans before they arrive on Earth because their power far exceeds his own, but inspired by the Abridged series, couldn't the earthlings wish for a field of asteroids or something that could indirectly kill the Saiyans or prevent them from arriving on Earth?

Shenron not being able to effect people who's power exceeds Kami's is a load of nonsense when you remember he can apparently bring far more powerful dead people back to life than Kami but he can't kill or teleport them somewhere.Noah wrote:So back reading the manga at the Saiyan arc portion, it is said that Shenron can't destroy the Saiyans before they arrive on Earth because their power far exceeds his own, but inspired by the Abridged series, couldn't the earthlings wish for a field of asteroids or something that could indirectly kill the Saiyans or prevent them from arriving on Earth?
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I think the powerful beings have to want whatever's being wished. For example, Goku can be wished back. However, when he doesn't want to then Shenron can't wish him back.ekrolo2 wrote:Shenron not being able to effect people who's power exceeds Kami's is a load of nonsense when you remember he can apparently bring far more powerful dead people back to life than Kami but he can't kill or teleport them somewhere.Noah wrote:So back reading the manga at the Saiyan arc portion, it is said that Shenron can't destroy the Saiyans before they arrive on Earth because their power far exceeds his own, but inspired by the Abridged series, couldn't the earthlings wish for a field of asteroids or something that could indirectly kill the Saiyans or prevent them from arriving on Earth?

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

On the topic of casting Chris Ayres as The Joker a while back.
Open up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdBN0T4JEHs and go to around 1:05. Mute it and pause it.
Then go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doGFy3aQbbg around 1:16 and play both at the same time.
Now that's chilling.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
When you think about it... Goku predicting hit's moves is kind of bullshit. It's impossible to know exactly where he'd go. Also, why didn't hit use time skip along with his assassination techniques? Stop time for .5 seconds and send one of those invisible ki blasts at Goku's heart again. It makes for some interesting battles but doesn't really make much sense.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
The earthlings training with King Kai wasn't a filler, right? Goku needed Kami to do a thing to his body so he could keep it in the Afterlife to train with King Kai, but then with Kami dead later on, how Tien and the others kept their bodies in the Afterlife? And Krillin said that would be important preserve their bodies until their ressurrection?

Kami arranged it. It is mentioned how they met him in the afterlife and how he restored Chaozu's body, so supposedly he also took their dead bodies from the capsules instead of making new ones.Noah wrote:The earthlings training with King Kai wasn't a filler, right? Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
You know, I wonder if all those timeskips and off-screen training in the Saiyan Arc were things Toriyama purposely put in there to give Toei ideas for potential filler episodes. He must have known the issues the anime staff had to go through with trying not to overtake the manga. And he did contribute to at least the idea of Yamcha being a baseball player. He clearly thought about what the characters were like during that period. He just didn't decide to draw any of it.
Of course, the Freeza arc wasn't very filler-friendly, so maybe I'm just thinking too much into it.

I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

I mean, he didn't come up with stories for the characters in the time skip until Toei needed filler ideas, at least as far as we know. I think it's more likely that it just happened to be a good place to insert filler, and Toriyama is also good at coming up with filler.MozillaVulpix wrote:You know, I wonder if all those timeskips and off-screen training in the Saiyan Arc were things Toriyama purposely put in there to give Toei ideas for potential filler episodes. Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
They frequently worked with him so I don't think you're too far off from the truth. It's difficult to gauge who was more "controlling", so to speak. Vegetto's creation is a product of considering Dragon Ball Z Movie 12. Yet he had thoughtful lore ready for the Saiyan and Tsufurian conflict without mentioning that in his story once. And he was requested to create Gregory since apparently Bubbles wasn't enough for the animation department. It's a back-and-forth of creative collaboration. This guide has the general gist of what to expect. Usually, if he couldn't naturally fit something into his story, he'd set some things aside for the animation staff to utilize.

This thread was an excellent idea as you know many people feel lazy or don't like to derail the forum with a thread about that could come to a close with a couple of answersThe Monkey King wrote:Over 1000 posts... Wasn't sure if this thread was going to be so popular with you guys

Has anyone ever noticed how Toriyama tended to have one of the eyes with a thicker outline than the other in a lot of the characters with an eye shape different to Goku's?

[/spoiler]Completely random pages I picked out. The right eye of the characters (Freeza, Gero, #19) has a consistently thicker outline, if ever so slightly, than the other one. May have something to do with the way Toriyama draws which prompts this mistake.

I think it has something to do with the way he slants his hand, probably not intentional. Also, I didn't notice it until I started buying the Full Color release.Doctor. wrote:Has anyone ever noticed how Toriyama tended to have one of the eyes with a thicker outline than the other in a lot of the characters with an eye shape different to Goku's?

I can also somewhat see it in Goku's eyes on these pages, but to a much lesser extent.Doctor. wrote:
