Her lower body is confusing the heck out of me.
Specifically, where does the thigh end and the butt begin?

I wonder why nobody is speaking about the images from tomorrow's episode.
Or maybe you have and I'm not paying attention.

This looks fine although they should really get into a consensus about Gohan hair bang
Bang=Ultimate form.
He's probably powering up into his Ultimate form in that shot.
I think his bang just appears when he's physically tired. It has nothing to do with a transformation or anything.

I really like it. Those back dimples are winning me over.
I like the design generally, but dear God, look at that hair, I don't think Ken Otsuka makes hair that pointy.

Dude what, it's not that big a deal, so why can't you take the corrections with some modicum of grace? You feel embarassed for making a mistake and having it pointed out or something?
And besides the first reply to your mistake didn't thoughroughly debunk it, so in the interest of removing any confusion, they might as well have completed the job, so others wouldn't get the wrong impression.
I sure was confused initially about who the guys were in the middle and bottom row of column 3, so it cleared up my confusion at least.

That must be why Roshi is so curious ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Other than Higashide and Tate there is no one else good working on this show.
I noticed that throughout this entire arc so far the good pieces of animation were made mostly by Higashide and also a little bit of Tate. With the exception of some parts of Goku vs Toppo.
I mean Shida and Otsuka are not regularly working on Super and Shimanuki is only good with effects.

Miuma, Inaba, Nikaido, Manabe, and some more and then there are artists who do great character art like Tsuji, Yokoyama and Yong-Ce Tu.
There is more that just two good animators on the show.

Manabe? His art is good same with Tsuji and Inaba but I don't recall seeing any great cuts from them. Inaba has some good camera rotations I guess. I'm not saying the rest is bad just I didn't notice any great fights they animated but maybe I'm not really familiar with them so I don't know. DB animators' channel on Youtube had an AMV about Manabe and it included the early Goku vs Zamasu & Goku Black vs Vegeta fight in episode 63. I thought it was Higashide because of the good looking martial arts choreography but if it was really him then I was wrong and he is great.

Episode 88
Image
I'm not late! I'M NOT LATE. NOPE.

Just gonna relay some stuff I mentioned on Twitter RE: Higashide. While his animation is super easy to spot thanks to the distinctive timing and effects, I think myself and many others may have been very off the mark regarding his character art.

While there are certainly edge cases that do feature the on-model work that's been attributed to him in the past, the vast majority of his work is either corrected, or on episodes with 2nd KAs that are capable of drawing on-model, too. I don't think there's enough evidence anymore to conclusively say, "This is Higashide's pure character art". Now that we have Yokoyama and Tu as two 2nd KAs with great character art abilities, there could well be many others with equal skill. We just don't know yet.

Until then, I think I'm going to stick to identifying his action animation only, especially when doing this catalogue. It's the only thing I can be 100% sure of now. It's my least favourite part of this process - challenging your own conclusions - but it's a necessary one!

Yeah that's one thing that I dislike about DB art style nowadays: if you shave the hair of Goku, Vegeta and Gohan and put them in the same frame, you possibly could not identify who is who

First half was nice, second half was a mixed bag, some nice stuff, and some meh stuff. Overall a solid episode, I think it looked better than last week's.
NEP didn't show any amazing animation, but the art looks nice, some good Shimanuki in there.

Meh. Pretty standard episode looking episode. Some rough art here and there, but it was serviceable enough.

Now we just have to wait for the full NEP since the one that aired and the one on Fuji TV's site was just half of it.

Episode 89

Animation Supervisors
Joey Calangian
Nii Hirotaka
Nashizawa Koji

Key Animators
Hong Beom-seok
Sawada Hironori
Funaki Shoichi
Oka Tatsuya
Tsukuma Takenori
Ikeda Masato
Nashizawa Koji
TAP

2nd Key Animators
Nii Hirotaka
Mido Douga
Yong-ce Tu
Tsukino Mua
Sugawara Rieko
Yokoyama Miyuki

-

That was pretty passable, though I thought the second half might have a little bit more action. Having seen that wonderful NEP, I suppose it makes sense to have an episode like this next to last one's, too.

First half was pretty much 100% corrected by Takeo Ide, which makes sense given that's likely where TAP's touch was found. Nii and Nashizawa didn't seem to pop up until the second half.

Wasn't a huge fan of Nii's style this week, but Nashizawa continues to impress. He drew some pretty nice Tenshinhans towards the end there.

Interesting staff list, almost entirely outsourced. Was Nashizawa the only Toei animator?
Sugawara Rieko's back, was a bit worried she was gone.

He was on Nii's last episode too. Wonder what he did here and then.

Full NEP is out. Whole thing looks really good. Atleast stylewise.

NEP looks ok, I need a HD Cap to judge it better. Regarding Shimanuki, instead of animating, I think he should just supervise. Candidly speaking, his ability to animate well just isn't there anymore, he would work better as a chief animation supervisor better to be honest. But I'll be patient and wait for next weeks episode to see what he does.
