Here's a screen shot of the comparison in the trailer.

Oh my god.
Is this real? What a fucking joke.
LOOK AT THE NOSE AND THE TEETH! The fucking lineart is vanishing.
What a waste of time.

hello 2007 me, don't buy the orange bricks the dragon boxes are going to come shortly after
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Well to be somewhat fair those 2 shots of Goku are at different times. They're not exactly the same image.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Oh my god.

I'm betting all my Zenny that Bluray versions of the Dragon Boxes may happen one day.

Well that trailer certainly marketed widescreen/DNR as the future of DBZ, so 2007 again

That is true. pretty much this trailer is before and after shots 1.5 seconds apart lol

spit comparison:

They look better than the orange bricks..but they're not the level sets.

if that screenshot defines the past and the future, I'm sorry, but the future looks horrible.
There's no excuse for FUNimation now. They obviously do have access to 4:3 masters in great quality, but are deliberately choosing to go with 16:9. I wouldn't care so much but FUnimation is trying to justify going widescreen by calling it the "future". This release obviously isn't meant for "future" fans, it's for the past fans, so why not use 4:3, which they consider to be the past.

Because 4:3 is the past and a much more profitable share of the market for DBZ either aren't going to care one way or the other or they will prefer this 16:9 stuff. If bites, but that's the reality of this particular release.

Personally, I really don't care that much as long as it's not over saturated to hell. I mean a 4:3 release would have been better, no questions asked, but i'm not not going to buy DBZ on Bluray just because it's 16:9.

Looks pretty saturated to me

It's fucking 2007 all over again. Holy shit they seriously just made the orange bricks a second time.

Glad I own the dboxes (although I'm buying this anyways...)
On the amusing side, I showed the comparisons to a friend of mine who considers himself a casual DBZ fan.
He gives it the thumbs up and went to go preorder it. Which is exactly the point of these sets. (He also said he was looking forward to putting them up next to his orange bricks.)

What is the "past" supposed to be? The singles?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

This is pretty much how it is with any friend of mine who considers themselves a fan of DBZ. It's a huge part of why I care, but at the same time I don't really care as much as I did the first time this happened.MarcFBR wrote:Glad I own the dboxes (although I'm buying this anyways...)

It's not that it looks bad, and if I didn't know better I might even buy them. But I find it funny that of the contrasting past/future they show in their trailer I find myself choosing past. It just looks right. Past looks pretty Level set to me and as someone who can't afford secondary market Dragon Box, that's what I wanted

If you ask me, the box arts altogether look pretty kick-ass.
Also, I'm not sure if this is legit or not, but if so, I'm fairly content with this release.

These aren't legit, no. They were debunked a fair few pages back in this thread as being from a special features video from the Level Sets.TheAldella wrote:If you ask me, the box arts altogether look pretty kick-ass.

Looks like FUNi yanked the trailer. I wonder what happened? Too early?
