Toei made a major announcement when the first day of the arc will be. It's pretty big news.

I didn't mean that people won't expect future trunks, I'm saying people won't have an idea of what will happen in the plot or whether or not its interesting. Although, the curiosity could potentially increase the ratings.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Well, that makes up for the 5.0 rating that week. A lot of people recorded the episode.

Probably not but we could get close. Highest rating ever for Super was 7.9, and we were still behind one piece.

One Piece is ginormous in Japan, there is no way that is happening.

Yeah, that's the series that was influenced by Dragon Ball. And that Dragon Ball series is huge worldwide.

It's unreal. I honestly had no idea just how ridiculously huge it was until I went there. It really hit home when I was in middle of nowhere near the thatched-roof villages of Gokayama. I was at one of the food stalls and the little bell at the front had a mini-Luffy and Zoro attached to it.

It happened again when I was on Miyajima Island later on in the trip. Totally secluded area with lots of handmade goods all over the place, but you could still find One Piece related merchandise on the shelves.

One Piece is a titan. As much as I love Dragon Ball, it doesn't come close to having the same presence that One Piece has over there. Not in my experience, anyway. I don't see it ever toppling it.

Its one of those series that will go on for years and years. Even if Oda retires, I am sure Toei will continue and One piece LT will still happen.

Of course not. One Piece is at its prime and running, Dragon Ball isn't. It's a franchise which the main product ended in the mid 90's and is being brought back to life just now - and still, has been moving almost as much money as OP in Japan.

A more fair comparison would be DB at its peak, while Toriyama was still doing the manga. Can OP retain the same power 20 years after the manga is over?

Well I just came back from Japan a week ago and Dragon Ball does have a presence but One Piece does have more of a presence.

One Piece is in Tokyo Tower, there's a One Piece restaurant outside Fuji TV, a One Piece shop in Shibuya (which looks to be closing down) and there's a One Piece indoor theme park which is also a DBZ indoor theme park.

There's a place called Akihabara which sells an enormous amount of anime related merchandise across a load of shops and it is mostly One Piece and Dragon Ball stuff.

I saw very little Naruto, no Bleach, no Toriko, no Seven Deadly Sins, no Fairy Tail etc.

I mean, you're just stating the obvious to me here. I was simply adding weight to what was already said.

Damn. I'm kinda shocked about the lack of presence of Naruto has in Japan. Not surprised about Bleach and Toriko. But how their animes were produced contributed to their downfall in popularity in Japan.

The Naruto manga ended, so I'm not surprise by the lack of presence of Naruto has in Japan. Seven Deadly Sins seems like a niche otaku title compare to Dragon Ball and One Piece.

I honestly thought Naruto would be more popular in Japan. It's a spec of dirt compared to One Piece.

Dragon Ball is doing mighty well for a manga that ended in mid nineties. I wouldn't compare it to One Piece since OP is new.

Worldwide, Dragon Ball >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> every other anime combined however. Dragon Ball is a mainstream tv show, people who don't know what anime is can recognize Goku
Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?

Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

It's his hairstyle. It's so damn funky and unique, that can you spot Goku a mile away. :P

OP isn't new, it's been running since 1997 and the anime has been running since 1999. All I'm saying is that One Piece is, as Ajay said, a titan in Japan and Ajay has seen it for his own eyes while I've just heard about it but I want to be able to see it for myself one of these days because of how much of a One Piece fan I am. Super will not beat out One Piece in ratings because One Piece has been the biggest thing in Japan for almost 20 years now and also because the anime is about to start adapting the Zou arc and then the Whole Cake Island arc which are full of interesting revelations and tons of hype. I'm not discounting DB at all, it's just that it really has no chance of surpassing One Piece at the moment especially when One Piece has a lot coming out this year with more merchandise, more dubbed episodes for the international audience and a new movie coming out in July. It's not bad to hope that Super will out do One Piece in ratings but it's also not bad to have realistic expectations.

I think Pokemon out beats DB with anime popularity worldwide. Dragon Ball may be a hot seller overseas, but One Piece still out sells it over in Japan.
