I'm leaning towards the "new, older but not as old as I'd hoped" designs for Trunks and Goten being hidden.

If Goten is taller, but hasn't changed his hair yet, it'll be easier for Freeza to confuse him with Gokû.
(That is, until he starts talking. Gokû's got a different way of speaking than Gohan or Goten do.)

Man all of this new information has really brought out a nasty side of the fanbase. I would swear the people complaining about consistency have never read the manga all the way through once. The thing is a delightful melting pot of plot holes, run-on sentence like narrative beats, and creative problem solving when it comes to getting out of story corners.

I enjoy watching Toriyama write himself out of these situations. DB characters may not call him out on it, but the Dr. Slump ones sure do. Difference between being a character in your own manga and just being an outside force, I guess.

I can't get my head around Goten/Trunks not being in the movie. It makes very little sense at all to me. I mean, at this stage in the series Goten and Trunks have established themselves as a main part of the group and if there's a huge fight going down with Frieza (a character you'd imagine they've heard of in the past) you'd just think they'd be fascinated to get a look at him and get involved.

Added to that it would have been cool for Frieza to come across Trunks and remember that it was him who killed him / the confusion on Trunks' face etc. I enjoyed their scenes in Battle of Gods too.

I'm curious to know why they seem to have been left out of this completely, yet we see characters like Tien who if anything seemed to want to step away from it all.

It has never once been confirmed that they won't be in the movie.

You're jumping the gun. Just because they haven't been shown doesn't mean that they aren't in the movie. Trunks is even mentioned in the first chapter, though Freeza is obviously thinking of the Trunks from the future.

Where's the confirmation that Goten and Trunks aren't in it? Are we doing this based on the character sheet that was revealed? Because if so, keep in mind we'd also have to assume that Freeza, Beerus and Whis aren't in the film.

How nifty would it be if Trunks and Goten show some signs of aging this time around, to the point where Freeza initially mistakes them for Goku and future Trunks? At the very least I think that this would be a good way to tie Trunks into the story, if only until the real fighting starts.

True but keep in mind there's a pic that shows Goku defeated which means Vegeta will need some kind of boost in order to avoid that and putting someone he likes in danger or worse is what gives him that boost.

Either that or he's just a lot more stronger then Goku which I doubt.
