Here is a rather newbish question (my fault for not spending longer on the forum, i guess). But how do you pick an especific avatar from this thread?

You right-click the image, click properties, copy the url, go to User Control Panel(upper right on the page), choose 'Profile' under 'Options', click 'Edit Avatar', paste the url under 'Link off-site' and press submit.

Most if not all of the images in this thread link off-site in the first place, so it shouldn't be a problem, if that's what you were actually asking.
