Dragon Ball Z Being Re-edited and Re-dubbed for HDTV
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
There are too many times when you're trying to discuss something in the Dragon Ball Questions section and someone will say, "But didn't they say this?" and the answer will be "Well that's dub only." If I really want to understand everything properly, I feel like I just can't watch the dub. Too much made up nonsense sneaks it's way in and you remember it later thinking it's fact. x_x

I have one small comment about line re-recordings...
Let's hope Norio Wakamoto won't screw his 1st form Cell performance like he did the with the Sparking series because it was AWFULL. I enjoyed the voice samples from Podcast 64, but in Sparking series he sounded like he forgot how to do it with his "yawny/sleepy" voice instead of the "lizerdy" noises.

After all, this is basically what happened with "One Piece". FUNimation's One Piece dub is one of the best dubs there is.Taku128 wrote:The only problem with that is that it would require them to go through episode by episode and cut out the correct audio from each episode for Kai. If Kai were just Z in HD, no altered pacing, no removed filler, I'd expect them to just use their current dub. To get it to match up with Kai's visuals would take a lot of work. FUNi's lazy remaster makes me think they'd just redub the series from scratch as it would take less effort on the production side of things (just translate the script and "adapt" it). For once something good might come of FUNi's laziness.ImmortalSandwich wrote:If Funi gets DBKai, they will probably re use the dialogue they used in the Orange Boxes, which still works for me despite not being ideal. If they do end up properly redubbing DBKai, I will forever fall in love with Funimation.

It would seem like the more logical thing to dub Kai from scratch, as it's going to be cut around and such, and FUNi would have to sift through their dub audio.

Well, I believe that was mainly because he felt his old stuff from 1999 was good enough. Now, if FUNimation decides to rewrite the scripts to be more accurate, I think he'd come.Kendamu wrote:If he wouldn't show up to do the re-dubbing on the Bricks then I don't expect him to come back to do Kai.JulieYBM wrote:Hardly. Schemmel would fly back down and the rest of the cast, sans Vollmer, Antonelli, and Nadolny do regular work for FUNimation.

What do you mean? I wasn't saying that the FUNimation cast can't act, I don't think that at all, I meant that if they replace the whole cast make sure that they choose good actors.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Have their standards gone up that much since they dubbed it last time?Innagadadavida wrote:Get somebody else to do it then. Hell, replace the whole cast. As long as they can act.
Whether or not they could act is iffy when you talk about the cast in the beginning when they first got the series (Freeza Arc) but nowadays they've gotten much better, just watch One Piece.
Sabat is wonderful as Zoro (which may have something to do with the fact that he ONLY plays Zoro... it isn't "One Piece, Featuring Colleen Clinkenbeard as Luffy, Luci Christian as Nami, and Chris Sabat as EVERYONE ELSE)
But Sonny Straight (Kuririn in DBZ) is possibly the BEST voice in the series as Usopp
Eric Vale (Trunks) does an incredibly Job of acting when he plays Sanji
I think if they got another crack at it, but this time just fixed the horrid script and kept the Japanese music, I think we could have one great dub!... well, maybe they should also recast some of Sabat's 100 roles...

I don't really see a point in that. Sabat's big three are Vegeta, Piccolo, and Yamcha. All his roles, except MAYBE Karin, aren't very improtant characters.
Also, I learned Sabat was Karin, like, two months ago.
My mind was blown.

He was also Popo and Kami, along with Jeice.B wrote:I don't really see a point in that. Sabat's big three are Vegeta, Piccolo, and Yamcha. All his roles, except MAYBE Karin, aren't very important characters.

Personally, recasting all of Sabat's roles sounds good to me.

I forget, did Sabat do Gurd too?

Hey, folks. Wasted Wisher here again. Been busy, busy, busy lately.
Nothing new on my end, waiting to see what comes up.
All I know for certain is that Raditz dies by episode 3, and then there's the cameo of Nappa and Vegeta, munching away on some poor alien's arm.
Personally, I hope they take this opportunity to color-correct the armor Vegeta wears during his first appearance. I really hated looking at that blue-green-and-orange ensemble.

Episode 001: 65% filler
http://www.daizex.com/guides/filler/dbz_tv/002.shtml
DBZ Episode 002: ~8% Filler
http://www.daizex.com/guides/filler/dbz_tv/003.shtml
DBZ Episode 003: ~2% Filler
http://www.daizex.com/guides/filler/dbz_tv/004.shtml
DBZ Episode 004: ~10% Filler
http://www.daizex.com/guides/filler/dbz_tv/005.shtml
DBZ Episode 005: ~7% Filler
(Raditz dies)
In all, 17.6% filler, about 20 minutes filler if you count each episode to be roughly 22.30 long.
With that being said, I must say they stripped it down pretty nicely.

I can't imagine that happening. It's something that's been discussed to death throughout the Forums as a "What if DBZ was completely re-dubbed"...We may finally get to see something close enough to that in a Kai Dub. But I just don't see that happening or being fair to fans of the Dub. It's like I've always said, at this point people are solidified in their Fandom. Their preference either lies with the Dub or Original. So changing anyone in the cast would be an injustice to Dub fans who know the characters to sound like that. For the most part it would only please those who don't watch the Dub. I mean making voices, especially those of more minor roles (At least in comparison to Vegeta, Piccolo, & Yamcha) sound more like the Japanese isn't going to make people suddenly go..."Wow, cool. Screw the Japanese Version, I'm not a Dub Fan."KaiserNeko wrote:He was also Popo and Kami, along with Jeice.
