Sometimes you're just done, ya know? I'd been on and off with it for a while, but I feel like I left it in a good place and last I read they had a good main-artist/writer team. Judging by the covers I see of the comic in bookstores, they still have that artist with them. It's not that I dislike the series, I'm just done and moved on.

I don't think Iv'e ever experienced being "done" with a series....

I know that they announced Strong World some time last year and just a few weeks ago finally received the materials to begin work on it. Funi plans to have Strong World out for the holiday season. I don't know if it'll take that long for BOG though as DB's audience is far more international than OP's is and Toei's already expressed interest in overseas sales for the movie.

One Piece should not be underestimated. Dragon Ball, as good as it is, finished more than 20 years ago, so it's popularity isn't what it once was. Yes, this movie is something new so, I do believe they can reach the 3 billion yen mark, perhaps even more than that, but One Piece is simply a juggernaut in Japan. Each week there's something new to look forward to, and it's not finishing any time soon, which instead of working against it, it seems to strengthen its popularity as time passes. Even Toei believes it's about to become crazy popular overseas in the upcoming years, so they're working towards that.

I like to believe Dragon Ball, at it's highest point in popularity was just how One Piece is today, so it's interesting to see how crazy Japan is for Eiichiro Oda's manga with that thought in mind.

To be frank, I'll be surprised if Battle of Gods manages to make as much, or near as much money, as One Piece Film Z. I'd love it if it manages to do so, but as of right now, that's wishful thinking, I believe.... But please prove me wrong Battle of Gods, I won't get mad

Oda greedy? He's being the complete opposite.
His manga just has a lot to tell compared to Dragon Ball. He's barely past the halfway mark in the series, and he loves it too much to let it end.
And besides, Dragon Ball is one of his main inspirations.

That's stupid. You want him stop enjoying what he does because you feel like he is overshadowing a series that ended 18 years ago ? One Piece is not overshadowing anything and I think DB is fine how it is at the moment.

I couldn't really get into One Piece at all, although I don't think Oda should end the series because its "overshadowing" DB.

Personally, I see One Piece as the result of Dragon Ball. I really don't think without Dragon Ball, One Piece would have existed. Oda is a Dragon Ball fanboy, so from one fanboy to another, I wish him the best.
I remember when One Piece reached chapter 519, on Weekly Shonen Jump, the entire title page was originally printed in grey screentone. Later a fan of his asked him why that was, and Oda told him it was an homage to Dragon Ball. It was a personal mark to mean that he had finally "caught up" with Toriyama's Dragon Ball.
There's even an interview featuring both artists where Oda suffers under Toriyama's forgetfulness (a hilarious and interesting read).
I'm pretty sure Oda is dying to see the movie, that is, if he hasn't already on a private screening...

There's a new commercial out. Freeza mocks Cell for not being in the movie when he is, but Cell comes right back and says Freeza's voice won't be in the movie. I want a Freeza and Cell buddy series now.

I don't think an additional 40 or so minutes of characters getting their asses handed to them would have added all that much to the movie.

Really? I think it would have.. it'd have been fun to watch, anyway.
