The DVD is entirely blurred, whereas the Blu-ray is using lots of filters, resulting in edges being sharper, but backgrounds being smoothed completely flat. I don't know, obviously there are details the Blu-ray has over the DVD, but the clouds and grass are completely screwed in the Blu-ray footage, whereas the DVDs still have some of the original texture at least. I don't think the new footage so far is that much better than the orange bricks.

The DVD shows more of the frame than the Blu-Ray does.
Looks like I'll be continuing my hunt for the Dragon Boxes, a GOOD release from Funi.

Are these vector traces? Still have the original screens on you if so?
I've got the DVD season one shots on me:

Nah, they're legit shots. Just in high definition with all noise removed so everything looks plastic.

Actually that might be the "re-framing" you're seeing because if you look at the top of the image on the Blu-ray shot there's more of the sky when compared to the DVD version either way like the Orange Bricks the new Blu-ray footage looks like crap and is DNR'd way too much.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

It seems they've actually deleted the trailer off the site, rather than just hiding the page.
Google Cache gives out an error message when trying to watch it.

These can't be out-sold. It's already factual. Good lord.
The audio in the trailer wasn't muffled that's just how the person who uploaded it to youtube recorded it.

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

Well, he said the footage reminded him of vector traces, so I'm unsure if those images were ran through a vector tracer, or if he's using them as an example.

Doubt it, Ajay's a stickler for audio quality. That being said, I didn't see the trailer on Funi's site. I imagine the muffled quality was a part of the Toonami-esque style they were going for.

Screenshots from my R1 Dragon Box disc for comparison:
And I saved, re-uploaded and posted the OB shots on the Blu-ray.com with credit, for open disclosure.

Sorry, I was just joking about the mixing decisions they made to make it sound "cool". The dialogue sounds like I'm listening to it through a tube from 4 miles away in a busy gas station.

This kind of reminds me of the Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray. All subtleties of shading are gone, and all colors are loud & neon.

I'm afraid if I buy this they'll cancel it!

I hate to say this BUT!

If they look better than the orange bricks and they don't have that problem of things getting deleted off the freaking image! Then I may buy them and give the orange bricks to my brother

I dunno we'll see.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128
Still recording Toonami broadcasts on VHS after all these years!

I suppose one is free to make their own appraisal of it, but it's no less revisionist than these DBZ screenshots.
2004 DVD:

2011 Blu-ray:
Look at her hair, the subtle golden shades are replaced with this blanket electric yellow.

The hair is certainly more yellow but I don't see how it's losing any 'shades' or anything.

I dunno I just found it far too loud, I can't watch it. At the time of its release there was a lot of back/forth on it at HTF, with Stephen Worth, an animation restorationist who has done work with Disney and other companies in the past, writing at length about the various revisionisms with it.

Fair enough, man. It does seem to vary from monitor to monitor. On my calibrated monitor it doesn't look too garish but on my TV, it is pretty vibrant. Can't say it's all that distracting. But yes, each to their own
