In addition, Zamas being as strong as he was in the anime but still being just an apprentice makes one wonder why the Kaioshin in Universe 6 were so weak that they got massacred by Pure Buu. Adding further, Zamas being that strong in the anime makes no sense since he supposedly took Goku's body to be strong... yet he can get that strong on his own AND be immortal?
But that 10 year old would certainly turn out superior to the average person. And the average Kaioshin is stronger than a Super Saiyan, possibly Super Saiyan 2. Even our below average Kaioshin was in the same league as the SSJs back in the Buu Arc.

Zamasu wasn't as strong as SSBlue, he was a good deal weaker, it was only his immortality that was saving him. And there are still reasons for him to steal Goku's body:
1: He didn't want to spend decades training to achieve that power.

2: The power he achieved in the future was his natural limit and from that point onward his gains from training would slow down considerably, thus he needed a Saiyan body which could essentially improve forever.
TKA wrote: 3. Zamas is nowhere near the same class of fighter Hit is. Just because Hit could take advantage of the weakness doesn't mean Zamas could. Goku had nothing to fear.
Even though this chapter implies Zamasu is weaker than an SSJ, logically he should be well over SSJ3 level. And Goku knows that Kaioshin have special abilities.

Traded blows with something weaker than SS3 Goku. My statement about the kais being abnormally weak (in anime continuity) stands.
Although Future Zamasu was powerful, he was still weaker than what Black was able to become.
True as that may be, they were portrayed as equals throughout the lion's share of the arc, which was a poor writing decision since it raised so many unanswered questions.
Present Zamasu wanted Goku's body because he was a mortal who had the ability to surpassed the gods, including his own talents.
Which is a weak justification when he has the chance to be immortal AND has the natural ability to be more or less equal to Goku.
Black also didn't want immortality because he enjoyed being challenged and fighting. He he took Goku's body, he took several of his characteristics.
Stop. This isn't about Black. This is about Zamas going through this convoluted plan to take Goku's body when in the anime he has the potential to be in the same league as Goku, but is also immortal.
Gohan has never learned any techniques just from seeing them a few times.

Sure's a good thing I never said that's how he learned it.

But let's break this down some. How did the Krillmaster learn the Taiyoken? Offscreen training after witnessing Tenshinhan's use of it, most likely. The fact that the manga told us Trunks learned it from Gohan means Gohan either did the same thing Krillin did or did what Goku did.

Also, we've never seen Gohan learn ANY technique. We don't see most dragonball characters learning their moves. The manga just justified Trunks having it. That's all.
Also, as I mentioned before, Gohan never saw the Solar Flare used. The one time he was in the area, he covered his eyes and was running for his life.
Don't be so literal. Nobody can see the Taiyoken being used since they'd go blind, yet people learn it without being taught by Tenshinhan how to do it.
Goku was careless, plain and simple. He thought he won, got self-assured, and power down. The same weakness from Resurrection 'F'.
I never said otherwise. It isn't a plot hole, or a down for the manga. It's Goku being Goku, and in a situation where all logic points to him being safe.
TheUltimateNinja wrote:But that 10 year old would certainly turn out superior to the average person.
No, not really. All the talent in the world means jack shit if you're not able to do anything with it, and being average isn't a handicap if you work hard enough. Zamas, even with his years of training, just wasn't able to make the grade. It's perfectly logical.

But to clear things up further, he's a prodigy among the kais. "Prodigious" is a completely relative term and not an objective quality, as you seem to think it is.
The average Kaioshin is stronger than a Super Saiyan, possibly Super Saiyan 2.
Really damn curious where you got that information from, especially since we've only seen 3 Kaioshin, all are weaker than our main characters and that Super Saiyan isn't a flat level.
Zamasu wasn't as strong as SSBlue, he was a good deal weaker,
No, the anime depicted him fighting on par with them in some scenes, getting outclassed in others and then fighting on par with them again.

So what you're saying is even prodigies have limits that they can't overcome? Glad we agree!

Your first point makes little sense in the anime version where he's perfectly capable of fighting evenly with Goku and Vegeta though, sadly.
Even though this chapter implies Zamasu is weaker than an SSJ, logically he should be well over SSJ3 level. And Goku knows that Kaioshin have special abilities.
That's not "logically". That's you wanting that to be a thing. It's not a thing, and for good reason.

Goku's never seen a kaioshin fight on par with anyone of his level. He has no reason to think "this guy has special powers that could really come back to bite me!"

the whole zenkai thing was an asspul, I'd rather the reason why black got strong is his godly body getting use to a mortal body and slowly drawing it's full potential out.

SSJ might as well be a flat level now, they've barely improved since the Buu Arc. When I say SSJ/SSJ2 level I'm referring to Buu Arc Goku/Majin Vegeta's level. And our Kaioshin is SSJ level, and he's the weakest Kaioshin, it's basic logic that the others are therefore well above SSJ level.

No, the anime depicted him fighting on par with them in some scenes, getting outclassed in others and then fighting on par with them again.
The anime also depicted SSJ2 Trunks fighting on par with SSRose Black in some scenes. Doesn't mean he's suddenly stronger than an SSBlue.

My point is that prodigies' limits should at least be above average. Would you call a tenth grader who can do basic addition a prodigy?

It is. Our Kaioshin were never noted to be anything special, yet they were all stronger than Buu Arc SSJs and South Kaioshin was able to trade blows with an SSJ3 tier enemy with infinite stamina, how could Zamasu be considered a prodigy if he's trash compared to them?

And Goku saw East Kaioshin restrain SSJ2 Gohan, he should have expected Zamasu to have the same ability.

Zamasu wasn't born a Kaioshin like the others. He was born a regular Shin-jin, and became a Kaio. Kaios are weaker than Nappa, while Zamasu was at a level among the strongest current Kaioshin of all universes. The current U7 Kaioshin is at a level below the current Super Saiyans, but still stronger than Piccolo. Zamasu seems to be at most as strong as SS Goku, which really does make him a prodigy for a Kaio. Saying that Zamasu must be at SS3 level after a decade is as silly as saying that by the end of the manga, base Goku must be above Freeza, Piccolo must be above the Super Saiyans, or Tenshinhan must be at least close to the Super Saiyans, because why not, they've been training for over a decade!

As for why SS Goku didn't transform after being paralyzed... maybe, just maybe, he couldn't transform because he was paralyzed.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

But that is what's happening. He's not miraculously getting stronger. What the zenkai is doing is pulling out Goku's power that Zamas can't access, and in doing so he's becoming more at one with the body. It's right there in the chapter.

But checks the storyboards and approves each one.

He mostly just approves of the gags. Toyotaro said that Toriyama doesn't care about story details and are picky about the gags being done right.

Toyotaro said Toriyama is "more particular" about the gags. It doesn't mean he does not give the story concern, it means he gives more attention to a certain part of the story, the comedy. Meaning he does in fact give the whole story attention when reviewing and approving the work.

There's no use in arguing what Toriyama did and didn't do, we can't know for sure either way...

Well, some of us have a pretty good idea, since we actually get how Toriyama writes. However, since there's no actual proof, it's useless.

Here are my comments on the latest chapter that aired:
-Gotta love how both Zamasu's take advantage of Zenkais in order for Goku Black to get stronger and continue to tap into more of Goku's powers. It shows that even though they refused to go the easy route and wish for the extinction of mortals, they are still pretty savvy and intelligent in their own right. Everything from Future Zamasu wishing for immortality to Goku Black taking advantages of Zenkais to the destruction of the Super Dragon Balls.

-Also appreciate how their plans are a bit fleshed out here. It seems like Zamasu wants all mortals to be eliminated throughout all timelines. All 6 timelines?! Though I'm pretty sure those timelines have their versions of Zamasu.

-Bonus points for not having Black and Zamasu using their ki blade 24/7 (as much as I love Black's ki blade technique). Black paralyzing SSJB Vegeta and Future Zamasu using telekinesis were wonderful additions.

-It seems like Zenkais won't work for Goku and Vegeta. This makes me question how far they will go later on in Super.

-The back and forth time traveling was done better in the manga than the anime, I'll also give it that.

-So Goku remembers the Mafuuba after all, huh. That's great!

-When a divine being surpasses SSJG, the hair turns pink, instead of Blue?! God, I hope that's not the case with Goku and Vegeta later on in the future of Super since I always appreciated SSJR only available to Goku Black, a villain's exclusive form. It fits more with the antagonists rather than the protagonists.

-For some reason, I enjoy the anime version of Black more than the manga. In the anime, he's portrayed as this elegant, pretentious and soft spoken sadist with a mysterious aura surrounding him for a good chunk of the arc. In the manga, those characteristics aren't as prevalent anymore.

-I have no fucking clue why Goku had to revert back to SSJ after impaling Future Zamasu. I mean, even if Goku thinks Zamasu is done for after being impaled with the pole, he'd know he'd have to deal with SSJR Goku Black who is curbstomping the ever living crap out of SSJB Vegeta. I also like how Goku is asking Zamasu to undo his destruction after impaling him with the stick.

-I like the inclusion of Yajirobe saving Goku and Trunks from being killed and the human resistance including Mai saving Vegeta in the anime more than the manga for some reason. Though I do appreciate Mai acting as a decoy to distract Black and Zamasu.

Overall, a decent chapter after a few chapters of mediocrity.

Probably not. If there were more of Zamasu, the immortal one would have recruited them when he was scouting through them all. With this, we can draw an interesting conclusion; Every single split timeline before Trunks and Cell came along was either so long ago or so significant that the butterfly effect has distorted everything, including the succession of Kaioshin. Otherwise, there would have been a few more of Zamasu.

The implication of that seems to be that Blue is more or less equal to SSG, and that Rose is the next transformation up. Since Future Zamasu was serving as an audience stand-in during that panel, we can assume what he said is probably correct, as well. This is quite a continuity error in Toyotaro's universe. While 20 is a good chapter, it also shows several signs of being rushed, and I'm writing this error up to that, because Toyotaro isn't one to overlook such an obvious contradiction.

I think for the moment he just "gave a look" to the other timelines, without actually "doing" anything. So, IMO the fact he has not contacted his other selves in those timelines yet, does not necessarily mean that they do not exist. Of course, it's possible that rings created a lot of time ago caused timelines to have major differences and Zamasu may not exist in some of them.

Mule, I don't understand what you exactly mean here (what's the "continuity error" you mention?)... however I don't think "rose" as the "next tranformation up" (after blue)... I think Rosé is more or less the same as Blue: don't forget that Saiyan Tranformations are multipliers, so you may have a base Saiyan stronger than a SSJ, as it happened with base Goku Black owning SSJ2 Trunks.
From Zamasu's words, it looks like that the reason of the pink color is due to the soul of a god in a Saiyan body, something which required the Dragon Balls... Vegeta and Goku may train how much they want and may unlock further transformations, but it sounds not probable they will acquire also the "soul" of a god (although they already achieved "godly" ki, so who knows!)...

The chapter says that "so when a divine being surpasses super saiyan god, instead of blue, they turn pink".
And that's what I said. Pink is not "the next after blue", it's "the next after God (red)", just like blue. And Goku and Vegeta are basically mortals so they become blue, while Black has a god soul so he becomes pink instead.

Maybe it would have been clearer if they wrote "so when a divine being surpasses super saiyan god, turns pink instead of blue."... but I think that's what they meant anyway. Do you think there are other possible meanings?

Out of context, that sounds all well and good, doesn't it? However, when this was said, both Zamasu's already knew about SSB and were actively fighting against it, which makes your interpretation that remark pretty nonsensical in-context. Zamasu wouldn't say "Pink must be what comes after SSG unless Blue", which they were actively fighting against, didn't surpass SSG. That's a continuity error.
