James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I was sure Trunks transformed into SSJ2 earlier?

While I'm not sure how much Vegeta would really hold back, I like the chemistry between these two a lot.

I think Vegeta is going to teach his son a lesson on saiyan power.

Well, there is the common theory that Gohan was perfectly capable of going Super Saiyan after his training but doesn't because the extra energy use isn't worth it. Trunks could just go that extra mile to throw people off...
This will never not be my sig:

So could Vegeta.

And if anyone was going to get Kaioshin'd, it'd be him. I thought he was going to be Kaioshin'd because of his comments in the novel.

I'm just wondering where Trunks' confidence comes from knowing he can't possibly beat SSj2 Vegeta. Either he has a plan or he's just having fun.
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

Personally, I think he is just content with knowing Vegeta is much stronger than him. He didn't seem surprised or upset at the pwoer difference. And Vegeta did say he was okay with holding back and if he asked Trunks if he could go SSJ2 too was just him trying to figure out where Trunks was power wise so he'd know just how much he should hold back.

Is it just me or does the artwork seem to have slipped a little in these past few pages?

Just a little in some panels, like the panels with Uub and Goku.

No, it's the entire page most of the time. Seems like once he gets it close enough, he isn't taking the time to refine it. Uub, Goku, Vegeta, Trunks and Buu all look kind of off in comparison to the old drawings.

Well, not really, to me anyway. They look fine. Maybe not spectacular like some previous panels, but I wouldn't say they all look "off". Only a few of them actually seem that way to me, like the ones I mentioned.

The cause is probably less time dedicated to some of the drawings.

Sometimes I notice that he doesn't put the cheek lines (is that what they call it?) underneath the eyes, I feel like thats contributing to the inconstant art, or has he always not include them.

That's what it looks like to me. Which is an idea I really like, now that I think about it. It'd be something unique to him, and it makes sense that he'd spend most of his time toying with that form since he'd be on hi sown more or less back in his time.
