What I really hate about this is it will sell like they wanted the Level sets to... :/
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Even though I might get hated on a bit here for saying this. But if it's going to look like this on Blu-ray, I guess I'll be fine with it. I do think it looks a little better than the season sets but it will never look better than the Dragon-boxes or Level sets. Just my opinion.

Just bought all the single releases I love those so much better than all this rubish  It's like watching old movies, they are beyond perfect for me as they have Japanese and US broadcast :D

Honestly, those two shots of Goku and Piccolo look almost like cels.

Maybe kinda somewhat, but the lines are too thick and smooth. Looks more like FUNimation's early attempts at vector traces. Those backgrounds are destroyed though. In those shots the orange bricks have more background detail.

I wasn't even looking at the background! Wow!...Yeah..Wouldn't it look better in motion though?

Even the orange bricks have more background detail (for the most part):

Posting them again just in case.

Everyone says they will, but they said the same things about the Level sets ("they'll buy it again because it's DBZEE IN HDEE"), and we know how that all turned out.

There's a good chance they will, but since nothing after the bricks have been successful, I have my doubts.

It's also fucking hilarious that they're trying to market Z like the new hotness AGAIN, when Kai literally is the "new hotness". If fans wanted a new version of DBZ, Kai would have been more successful. They want exactly what they watched on Toonami methinks, which isn't this.

It'll look much better on the actual blu ray. Look how bad the level sets look in Funimations trailer http://www.funimation.com/shows/dragon- ... -ray/anime .

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

Not to throw the topic off but this does seem like the perfect place to ask this question instead of me making a topic about it. I was watching The Dead Zone(The pioneer release) on my PS3 on a 26 inch HD TV. Was it just my eyes or did it really look better than when I watched it on a standard def TV? I guess what I'm trying to say is, Does the PS3 upscale DVDs? because I noticed every now and then it had that ''Pink like static'' guess analog quality haha I have no idea what I'm talking about

Again, the images posted earlier from the same, now removed high quality trailer showed their raw film in good detail with the grain. These are likely pretty accurate representations of the final product.

It upscales, but it's upscaling a crappy source. It can't magically make it look good.

But Funimations trailer of the level sets on their website isn't an accurate representation of its quality it actually makes the level sets look bad. What i'm trying to say is that this release will look much better on blu ray than it did in their trailer.

Yeah I knew it had to take someone like Toei with the Dragon-boxes or Funi with the Level sets to actually see a difference. :) But I still think the quality of the movie still looked great! haha

It's not the same trailer. Who's to say that FUNimation's web encoding hasn't improved within that time span?

I don't care how much it's improved unless they're streaming the trailer with a bitrate of around 25mbps it's not fully representing the quality of the blu ray. They were probably streaming at 1/10th of that bitrate if even that. All i'm trying to say is that don't go jumping the gun because of some trailer you saw online. I remember when the level sets were first coming out and Funimation released their trailer and there were people on this site bashing the release saying it looked bland and inferior to the dragon boxes.

Some other screen shots I was able to take from the video before it was taken down (glad I got them when I did)

Those look too much like vectors. I suppose casual fans will like it though, seeing as how it looks like a show that was made 45 seconds ago.

DBZ now in pastel. I think that even if this remaster was in 4/3 it would be a hard sell to most regulars at this site. I wonder if this will drive sells for the level sets, you can still buy them new online :)

Wow it does look exactly like they vector traced the entire series.

Can't believe they've gone from quite possibly the best remaster of the series, to possible the worst (honestly, I think the orange bricks look better, blurry as the early ones may be, because they do a better job at preserving the look of the series than this vector crap).
