The total sales were in decline along with the quality already, but there was a sudden drop as soon as the anime ended. As i said:

But that's more because the sales dropped first after the Aizen saga ended. Individual volume sales dropped a huge amount so there would have still been a huge decline even if the anime were still airing.

Those yearly sales are not a good comparison.

Bleach had 6 volumes release in 2010, 5 volumes release in 2011 and only 4 volumes release in 2012. The lack of volumes plus them selling less individually is why there appears to be a sudden drop.

As far as new individual volume sales go there was no decrease in sales after the anime ended.

But yes the anime not being on air probably lowered the sales of older volumes but that wouldn't be the main factor in the sales dropping.

My guess is that something more popular was on on another channel at the same time Sazae-san and Chibi Maruko-chan were on thus driving down their ratings.

The DVR recordings remain very consistent, even though this episode had high live ratings already.
In fact this ranking is exactly the same as the previous week, the same 10 shows and no changes in positions. How weird.

I'm very surprised to see how high on list Phoenix Wright is, i watched few episodes, and i would rather play game again, half of charm is looking for clues, and contradictions in court, not to mention animation is very wonky, what they've done to my favorite evil prosecutor?

It's the current sister show to Detective Conan and has lots of viewer overlap. You can't interpret ratings in a vacuum like that.

Sazae and Maruko were back to normal, the others (from #5 and below) not so much.
Interesting that, for some reason, One Piece was more affected than Super by whatever happened this weekend. The viewership was very close.

The latest One Piece volume which is also the first full volume of the new arc took a dive sales wise. It's been the slowest selling volume since Vol 59.

The slowest selling volume was in 2014. Sales are always up and down with one piece and it depends on so many reasons. in the end they always sell over 3 million copies overtime.

A lot of people have Dressrosa fatigue. Also others are sick of Oda continually spitting up the crew. Almost everyone was briefly reunited at Zou only to split up yet again. There's theories that Oda finds it easier to find stuff for 4 or 5 strawhats to do, but 9 is too much for him. I don't know if there's any truth in it though. They were together a lot more before the time skip and Oda handled 9 just fine there.

Volume 80 sold 2.70 million copies in 35 days. Volume 81 sold 2.39 million copies in 35 days. The last volume to sell a comparable amount was when Vol 59 sold 2.37 million copies in 33 days. That was back in 2010.

Trafalgar Law ended up having such a big part that it pushed Zoro and Sanji down a peg. Zoro has had one major fight since the Thriller Bark arc. Sanji I don't recall a Y for him.

Then the Dress Rosa arc had so many characters, too many characters that they have to ship several of the Straw Hats off. He's just having too many characters at one time.

I'm really sad about Oda's constant need to split the crew up because of the glut of new characters. It does make me look forward to One Piece's movies because there they have to keep the crew together - but I wish they were together in the manga as well.

Trafalgar Law isn't that interesting to me. I like other works his voice actor has done, but that's about it. I agree with the One Piece Podcast that Law is pretty much the Poochie of One Piece.

This is supposed to be the "Year of Sanji" so I'm hoping he'll get some good fights in the current arc.

I miss Zoro. Especially since it was just revealed that one of Big Mom's subordinates is a sword-fighter. That person will likely end up fighting Brook instead.

Sanji have been comic relief since the end of Ennis Lobby. It is just more apparent since the time-skip since the crew as a whole have been given less time since One Piece is approaching the endgame and the secondary characters are taking spotlight. I also don't get the complaints against Law since he is literally the only reason why Luffy got involve in the last story arc and is fighting one of the Emperors not named Big Mom. So of course he is important, just like how Vivi was important when she was on the crew.

A lot of the gripe about One Piece is that the time-skip changed the story arcs. Instead of each arc being a semi-selfcontain adventure story, everything is now connecting and an end goal is in sight. So Oda have to put the pieces together for the final act. I can understand fans no liking this, but it is what it is. We probably won't see the entire crew fighting together until they fight an Emperor.

I disagree with the assertion that Law is the Poochie of One Piece, mostly on the grounds that Law is actually massively popular. The whole thing with Poochie is that he was an attempt to create a "cool" character that crashed and burned so hard that they had to write him off almost immediately. Law is more like Vegeta in that he was introduced, turned out to be popular, and has become much more relevant to the plot as a result of that popularity.

Regarding volume 81 being about 300,000 sales behind where volume 80 was at the same point after release...it's a little concerning, but I can see some people (mostly the younger audience) being a bit less enthused to purchase Plot Dump: The Arc. I liked it, but Zou didn't have much in terms of action. It might get a bit of a bump when volume 82 and Film Gold come out, though.

Law was 2nd in the 5th character popularity poll (with 8794 votes compared to Luffy's 9183). He placed 10th in the 4th poll, with 1188 votes.

Oda says he doesn't allow popularity or fan request to dictate his work since if something fails, he knows it was his own doing.

The only time we have a record of an editor influencing his work is when he introduced the Supernova at SA. He also changed his mind about Vivi, who was supposed to be an one-shot character, but those are the only major changes I can think of to Oda's story.

I agree. To use TVtrope terms, Poochie was the Scrappy/Cousin Oliver, and I hate that the One Piece podcast called Law Poochie without understanding the context, which they often do with many references. Poochie was hated. People wanted him to die and him being added to the show was one big marketing ploy, which also made him a creator's pet. Law is more like Wolverine. A popularity character who is hated by some because they are so popularity, and fans feel they get too much exposer and steal spotlight from more deserving characters. Since the last story arc was basically Law's story, complaining about him getting too much exposer is like complaining that Vivi got too much attention during Alabasta.
