Thank you, that really makes me hopeful for the results if they do indeed get that extra time to work on it. Having seen recent, higher-production Toei works, I would thoroughly enjoy it if more time goes into DB15's animation production. That clip of Shida's from BOG really is incredible; getting more and longer clips in that vein for DB15 would be amazing.JulieYBM wrote:The average key animator can handle between two and four cuts a day. Two is the usual amount, although depending on the sort of cut one might only finish one per day or even upwards of four. Inoue Toshiyuki has done four-to-five cuts in a single day. With scheduling as much of an issue as it is and extra month could mean getting a talented freelancer on board when he has an opening in his schedule or having extra time to correct drawings of unskilled animators. If a talented animator is willing and able an extra month or two could mean sixty or higher cuts of sublime quality. Shida Naotoshi first revealed he was working on Dragon Ball Z: Kami to Kami on 01 November 2012. On 13 November 2013 he tweeted that he had finished his work on the film. That means he did the storyboard, layouts and key animation drawings for these cuts in that amount of time. Shida is almost always allowed to storyboard his own cuts, even when he does not receive official credit, so we have to factor that into the timing as well. In about two weeks Shida made the best action sequence in the film. Imagine if he was able to work twice as long and do a higher number of cuts. Even they were not all action in nature his drawings would make dialogue cuts look much better.Chuquita wrote:Question about May release date vs March:
In a best-case-scenario in which production on DB15 begins around the same time of year as production of BOG began, just how much would the extra two months of production improve the quality or add to the length (or both) of the movie? Would it be more like getting the equivalent of BOG's extended version as the theatrical cut, or would it still be around the same length as the theatrical cut of BOG, but have smoother and higher quality animation?
Did they just announce this movie early or are they actually giving them a longer amount of time to make the movie?
Shida doesn't even have to the only action animator. There are plenty of animators who specialize in action animation. Hire them to work on the film for a month or two longer than normal and the movie could be a great improvement.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
Even if Yamamuro Tadayoshi does not know any talented freelancers he should still have plenty of other talented key animators to chose from, as evident from the staff Director Zako Arifumi managed to pull together for the 2013 Toriko film. Hamano Yuu'ichi especially did a great job for that film, so it would be nice if he got to have a better showing than what he did for Kami to Kami.

One other side-effect of having a longer production schedule is that the voice-actors and sound-effects people might actually have proper animation to work with when doing the audio side of things. I know a few people have either gone on-record or spoken in private making (good-natured) digs at the lack of finished animation to work off of (Nozawa, Kusao, Arai, et al.).Chuquita wrote:Thank you, that really makes me hopeful for the results if they do indeed get that extra time to work on it. Arai would not be the first audio guy to complain about the lack of finished animation.SaiyaJedi wrote:One other side-effect of having a longer production schedule is that the voice-actors and sound-effects people might actually have proper animation to work with when doing the audio side of things. When sound directors who don’t know what’s going on come up to me and tell me like they’re stressed out from working, “Hey, we can’t do any sound work because we don’t have any proper drawings, just keyframe photography,” I want to tell them “okay then, why don’t you quit?”
How much weight are you pulling, and how much of the budget are you given?
Do you know how much the animation staff puts into those drawings and what they’re going through?
Are you saying what you’re saying with all of this in mind?

It would be funny purely because Raditz seemed so sure Vegeta would revive him with the Dragon Balls... But on a serious note, even if he could be revived I'm not sure there'd be anyone who would want to. Poor Raditz, no one likes himFlame Dragon wrote:Do you think we will see some old characters returning?

I like him! Was sad when he died. It wasn't his fault everyone was a dick to him 'cuz he was an alien. Sure he could have been more "friendlier" but he's an alien, not really accustomed to that sort of thing, and kidnapping Gohan was only so he could spend time with his nephew.CordonBloo wrote:It would be funny purely because Raditz seemed so sure Vegeta would revive him with the Dragon Balls... As far as older characters returning goes, I for one wouldn't mind seeing Crane Hermit and Taopaipai finally try to come back for revenge, only for it to fail, hard.

I really do think Raditz was kind of a wasted potential. They could've done so much with him. He doesn't even appear in Hell filler or anything. Or Fusion Reborn. Or the Super 17 Saga. I don't know what they could do with him, though. He's been gone for quite a while.

Is Toriyama even writing manga to these movies or are they skipping directly into the movie? Wondering how much input he has in them

No, there has never been any indication that Toriyama is actually plotting out honest-to-goodness manga panels. Character designs = yes, dialog = yes, and general story writings = yes, but that's it.SaiyanBaller22 wrote:Is Toriyama even writing manga to these movies or are they skipping directly into the movie? I think it's been suggested that Yamamuro Tadayoshi has been directing the short promotional videos for Dragon Ball Heroes, right? Well, here is the Opening for Ultimate Mission 2. It's not incredible thanks to a small number of drawings and not-so-talented animators, but it's an idea of what we might we. If Yamamuro did storyboard this than he at least has the ambition to have multiple characters fighting in a single cut at once.

Hmmm. I don't know. The entire point of Goku's fight with Vegeta is that a low-class Saiyan could stand up to a Saiyan elite. So having Raditz, who would be of equal status to Goku, die against the fighters first seems logical to me.Valerius Dover wrote:I really do think Raditz was kind of a wasted potential. I would like to see in this movie Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegeto to fight whoever the big bad is instead of using SSJGod.
I mean surely SSJ2 Vegeto would be able to take Beers.
Or maybe SSJ3 if he did it quick.

I doubt Vegetto or Gogeta could even get close to Beerus.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
Goku said himself that fusing wouldn't be enough to beat Beerus so that's unlikely and frankly I'd rather they go into new territory than use the Fusion.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread
Super Saiyan 3 Vegetto would definitely not be strong enough to beat Beerus. In the Special Edition of the movie, Goku says that merging with Vegeta would probably not be enough to beat Beerus (the highest power they can achieve by merging is SS3 Vegetto's power), and then after he transforms into a Super Saiyan God, he says that he never imagined that such a realm of power existed (referring to his own power, not to mention Beerus').MasterVampire wrote:I would like to see in this movie Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegeto to fight whoever the big bad is instead of using SSJGod.

So, if Beerus is even stronger than Goku expected him to be, it means that merging with Vegeta would definitely not be enough.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Isn't it a good thing that Toriyama is writing a script for the upcoming movie, though? Isn't that almost the same as if he was writing manga? Even director and animation supervisor would have to follow the script as closely as possible, just like they had to for the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Let's hope Yamamuro does a good job of storyboarding it.JulieYBM wrote:I think it's been suggested that Yamamuro Tadayoshi has been directing the short promotional videos for Dragon Ball Heroes, right? It would be nice if Toriyama is deeply supervising everything for the movie to maintain the good quality of the movie.
