To me, it'll be Birus and Vis, "By-rus" and "Vees", until perhaps an official occidental version is revealed over here in months.

That was one possibility we had discussed, and while I'm not saying you shouldn't use that, since it is completely up to you personally, that's just not how his name is pronounced in the movie (in Japanese). My issue with it is there's absolutely no hard "v" sound in his name. It's not like Vegeta, where you're going from a hard "b" to a hard "v" sound. There's a drastic difference in going from a "u" to a hard "v" sound. Phonetically it's just not even close, but again, it's up to you. Just wanted to lay that out there.

Well, "By-rus" is just something I'll use for the English conversations, while "Bee-rus" will be used for my French talk, sticking with how "Virus" is pronunced.
I guess it feets with the Japanese way, they say "birusu" but wouldn't it be what they would say for their language, like if they say "it's a virus!", wouldn't they say "kore-wa birusu da!" or something? (forgive my butchering Japanese, I really don't have any more Japanese notion than what Dragon Ball episodes have made me hear!!!)
I guess the character's name should be based on the way "virus" is pronunced for the specific language it is used in, but that's just my opinion.

I see what concerns you with the "v" from Vis now that you've clarified it for me.
Hum, I would almost hesitate with having Wis or Wiss to keep the pronunciation more intact (Uis, "Wees"), but then my own concern with it is that when faced with the Japanese "Uisu", I immediately see how it connects with "Uirusu" (even though I absolutely didn't know the origin language before the recent news, I stayed at the "Birusu and Uirusu are both ways to convert Virus into Japanese pronunciation" theory until then), I can see the parallel with just a part of the word being taken out.
With the "Uis" / "Wis" way, I can't find that same natural, instant connection of "oh, it's Virus with part of the word taken out". It starts being hard to reconnect with the original pun, which I think is unusual for a pun based on a word that does exist in English (though I'll admit it was not the targetted language for the pun).

I can instantly see how:
- Videl comes from Devil.
- Shapner comes from Sharpener.
- Eraza comes from Eraser.
... but suddenly:
- Uis comes from Virus. It seems too much of a stretch for my comfort, like seeing "Uis", one can't possibly guess the pun word without having heard/read about it.

So I do prefer "Vis" or "Viss" (for now at least, I'm still waiting to see what officials will come up with), but I understand and admit how it's possibly not the most faithful way to "occidentalize" the name overall.
After all, if it's a "u" - which is not related to a "v" sound -, then I guess it means even in Japanese, you're not supposed to think "it's Virus with part of the word taken out" either...
And the pun was officially not based on the English version of the word either, so it might not be a good idea to base it all on some connection with English after all.
I'm not sure about the best way to go right now, I'll see if I end up calling him Wiss or something...

So, I got the movie soundtrack. There are some cool things in the liner notes.

First, one of the two people in the chorus for the Bingo song is none other than Shin'ichi Ishihara, he of many a Dragon Ball Z image song. Second, the choir they used for the choral bits in various tracks is the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus, people I have met and sung with in the past. So that's kind of cool.

The pamphlet also gives what the choir is singing in the different tracks:

• Track 7 is Ancient Egyptian, and says "In nb-ta-djsr", which means (roughly) "I am the Lord of the Sacred Lands" — this title is ascribed to Anubis.
• Track 28 is Middle High German, and is simply the first two lines of the Nibelungenlied: "Uns ist in alten mæren wunders vil geseit / von helden lobebæren, von grôzer arebeit", or "Full many a wonder is told us in stories old / of heroes worthy of praise, of hardships dire".
• Track 29 is Ancient Greek, and says "patēr andrōn the theōn te, Polemistēs", which is (roughly), "Father of gods and men, Warriors". The first part is a title given to Zeus.
• Track 31 is Latin: "Veni creator spiritus", an old Christian hymn.
• Track 34 is once again Ancient Egyptian, but I'm not sure if it's based on anything in particular. The Japanese translation given says (roughly, in English), "Destruction be upon them, upon those wretched ones, upon the strong heroic ones. I am the one who causes destruction; be not my enemy, for I govern the scales of death".

So, pretty neat, and in keeping with the theme of the movie. I've gained a newfound respect for the score.

Heck yeah!, the score was deeply thought by this guy, goes for people who say it's generic truthfully, this makes me respect the score much more too! I can't wait to listen to it entirely, most of us have run our thoughts be bad or good on chopped down material. if the score is great like this. I know it will be definitely ASTOUNDING when I give it a full listen!

Seems I was wrong about my little prediction on when the Synopsis/Summary/Essay of B.OG would be done. ITs understandable, 9 to 10 pages single spaced is ridiculous! I commend you Kei17 thats dedication right there bro , you really didn't have to do that. And kudos to Herms, SaiyaJedi, Hujio and whoever else that has taken part in translating it and shaping it up for us to read, I look forward to it.

Even with a detailed synopsis like that though, I'm sure watching it and reading it will be two totally different experiences.

With that said I wonder why Vegeta, just takes Kaio sama's word that Bils (can I still call him that?) is as strong and as dangerous as he is. Maybe he learned his lesson after not heeding Kaioshin's warning about Boo.

Also when did they have a chance to summon Shenron or at least what provoked them to do so? What made them ask the dragon about the God form?

The Japanese use "uirusu", though. That's why I'm going with "Vis". They use "uirusu" and it gets translated as "virus" so there's no way around it. Also, Hujio talked about Vegeta's case but I'd like to point out that "Bejiita" doesn't even sound like the first part of "vegetable" and the word itself doesn't have an elongated "i" in Japanese. That said, it's all personal taste until they give us an official romanization (if they don't pull another "Gok o u" nonsense).

Well, like I said before, "uirusu" IS "virus". It doesn't sound like it, sure, but that's what they use and what most of the West translates it to. Perhaps you'll be more confortable with writing it the way your mother language does it (which is the same ).

Unfortunately, with Dragon Ball names, we have to compromise one way or the other. Your examples are pretty straightforward but think about Bibidi, Babidi and Boo. Good luck being confortable with writing Bibbidi/Bippity and Bobbidi/Boppity.
