Mind you, I think this is an honest mistake and not them trying to mislead anyone.
Or they're new from a contract perspective. Using them in a different manner from how the original (or a later revision) state they were to be used.

Hrm, I wonder. The way he puts it is that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... OzI#t=455s
1. They had bad masters which they've used for 17 years.
2. They then got into a big negotiation with Toei and got the original film. No more specific than 'got.'
O'hara pretty much says:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... OzI#t=826s
1. Pulled the film out of the vault. You have to figure this is metaphorical in some manner.
2. The film print is 'The 16MM film print, which was used for the previous releases.'
It's not much more specific than that.
I wonder if what Gen says did happen, it's just that it happened back when they did the orange bricks? I dunno how right that seems, but it might make both of these statements true.

I've already confirmed with them that it's the exact same set of film masters they used for the 2007 orange bricks. They're using a digital scan of the film before Franko went nuts on it.
I don't think they're being misleading or adding much new information to the mix -- it's just that they're talking to an audience who isn't/aren't the folks on this forum that already understand the technical levels beyond "this is film and whoa".

Yeah, I don't think either one's lying or trying to be misleading. I figure the way Gen worded it just makes it sound like the film acquisition was a lot more recent than it actually was.

Does anyone know if these will be region-free (as most Blu-rays are) and as I'm asking anyway, are the Kai seasons sets region-free?

I never asked what more I wanted, I was asking if it was the same cut of cheese.

True but even so if they using the orange box tapes this isn't going be the best because the orange bricks were like 4th or 5th gen tapes so I think I will stick with my complete DBOX Z.

I'd probably wager them being third generation than 4th.

I don't think you guys quite understand what Funimation Has in there possession. They have to original spliced and placed together films masters. It was in my understating that Toei had given that copy to them in hopes that they could deliver a proper HD remastering 2005. For a project that Toei animation had not yet revealed (Probably Kai). As we all know Funimation did not deliver. This Is all stuff talked about with the head of directing at Toei animation in an interview in 2008.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but here's a little quote from Rightstuf's write-up.
The classic 4:3 format is captured in true 1080p HD with the original, director-approved color scheme!
Sounds an awful lot like back in Late-2006/Early-2007 when FUNimation was trying to bullshit us fans and draw in the people who knew better.
Remember that first little look into the remastering?
Chris Sabat: "Remember, these are the original colors from the Japanese footage"
Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but I think FUNimation may already be trying to cover their tracks.

The colors were more accurate in the season sets then the Dragon box. But the Season Sets colors were WAY TO OVER SATURATED, so the dragon box ultimately looked better.

Let's wait for some actual video footage before raising pitchforks over marketing copy and 3 screenshots (which look good.)
FWIW: I will note, though, that 100% of what Funimation does has to be approved by Japan. Someone over there has looked at what they made and said yes this is okay for probably 99% if not 100% of their releases. Yes, even the Orange Bricks.

How do you know that for certain?

Actually I not sure that is true it depends on the agreements when they were given the tapes originally and not had really a restriction what they could do with them. Else if that were true than they would not of done UUE because that would of lost them a fortune.

Dear grief. >_< I highly doubt Nishio Daisuke looked over every single episode of these masters and gave a thumbs up.
