Maybe but if Funimation did get the rights to it they could call it Rock the Dragon part 2 and that because of fan demand they got the Cell and Buu arcs, implying that they got it dubbed instead of simply getting the rights. But I do think the UK anime market is too small for this, the US would have a better chance. I'd be satisfied if they just released the Fusion and Kid Buu batches of episodes.90sDBZ wrote:Well I've ordered this. As for the later Ocean dub I really don't think there would be enough demand for that. In the UK we got both the Funi and Westwood dubs and the majority of fans are content with either one or the other so seeing as we've already had a Funi release I can't see many people forking out the cash.

Re: Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ: "Rock the Dragon"
Although I'm not a fan of the Westwood dub on the whole I must admit it did improve in the Fusion and Kid Buu sagas. Largely because they finally introduced some new music to the dub which actually sounded pretty good and made the dub feel less rushed. The Goku vs Kid Buu fight in particular had some really good placement in it. It's just a shame they waited until so close to the end of Z to make those improvements. I'd be willing to bet they had more time to dub those 2 sagas seeing as how CNX had to temporarily licence the Funi Fusion saga back in the day because the Ocean version wasn't done in time despite a long wait for new episodes. I also liked how they started mentioning death again for the first time since Raditz. It was probably because it was intended to air on CNX which was outside of the kids section.Solidus wrote:Maybe but if Funimation did get the rights to it they could call it Rock the Dragon part 2 and that because of fan demand they got the Cell and Buu arcs, implying that they got it dubbed instead of simply getting the rights. I think people are forgetting about that tiny market of 35 million people directly above the US who grew up with the Ocean Dub. It's not just the UK fans who are craving for it. Recently, every time I've walked into HMV, I've seen tons of posters and ads for the Ocean dub. Who knows, this release could be a big hit.

Although I'm a DBZ subbie these days, I'm glad I picked up this set. This was my first exposure to DBZ, and these first 53 episodes hold a dear place in my heart. And aside from Vegeta, Tenshinhan, and Freeza, most of the voices and acting are pretty good.

Same here. Technically, I watched the Latin American version first. But when I moved to Canada as a kid, this was the version that made me fall in love with the show. In fact, my de-facto 'dub run' of the show is basically this + Funimation's later Cell and Buu arcs. For the Ginyu and Frieza fights, I'll just use my "Kai" Blu Rays to fill in what's missing. I never thought that I'd be able to complete the show in what's (95%) its original dub run. It's very exciting. I saw clips of the Ocean Dub today and I was stunned to see how good it still is.G1Ravage wrote:Although I'm a DBZ subbie these days, I'm glad I picked up this set. I took the same shots from the Madman version in case anyone was curious to how it looked:

Re: Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ: "Rock the Dragon"
The packaging looks really nice. I'm a fan of the style though the only release I own in it is the 2011 UFC Ultimate Fight Collection. I appreciate that they included the original openings and NEPs, the dialogue for the first episodes and the tv versions of the movies. That said, seeing the screenshots I don't feel at all motivated to upgrade from my Pioneer singles. I'd have to see a price below $20 to consider it. I really hope they release the movies disc on its own, I'd be happy with just getting that.

superrayman3, would you be able to confirm this? Here's a recording I've got of it back when it aired: https://mega.co.nz/#!uEwznSDS!PqHGl1UgE ... q83tnE1Zv490sDBZ wrote:one of them mentions that the "Now back to our show" eye catches are included.

I don't think those are on the set. At least I haven't noticed them, but I didn't pay 100% attention to the first disc so it's possible I missed them. I really don't think I did though.BluezaBladeNZ wrote:superrayman3, would you be able to confirm this? I definitely remember the "Now back to our show" playing at least once on the first disc. It might have been for the first episode.
Tbh I'm glad they don't use it in every episode as it would get annoying.

I've watched the first 3 episodes thus far (I blame my work for lack of time) and none of the first 3 episodes had any of the episode intermissions "We'll be right back or Now back to our show etc it just went to a black screen for a second the resumed the episode" if I find an episode that does have them I'll let you guys know.BluezaBladeNZ wrote:superrayman3, would you be able to confirm this? If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

Perhaps the episode was skipped in the US, but I don't recall YTV in Canada ever taking it out of rotation. Was the episode skipped in other markets which received this particular dub as well?Gaffer Tape wrote:I do feel this release is a little confused as to what group it's trying to cater to. Not substantially so but a little bit. If we're trying to "party like it's 1996," well, that's before Toonami, so why isn't movie 3 in its 3-episode form like how it was originally presented on TV? Or why does it even have "Escape from Piccolo," which was totally skipped over in 1996 due to its "objectionable content"?
The listing on Amazon (.ca, at least) lists it as: "Dragon Ball Z: Rock the Dragon - Collector's Edition [Limited Edition]"DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:Anyone else get the feeling that this is a limited release? I seem to remember it as well. That's the episode with the orphans, isn't it? Are you sure it didn't play in the 90's? That story happens to be the oldest news story I could find to archive back from 1998 when we combined sites.
So that is correct: it was not originally broadcast in the original syndication run in 1996, it was included on the home video release, and was then aired normally in its proper rotation place when Cartoon Network started airing the show in 1998.

I remember buying that VHS because it had that episode. I've seen that episode on the International Chanel and just figured it was one of the episodes they decided to skip over completely. When I saw that it was actually dubbed, I had to have it. In retrospect, I think they should have dubbed the Gohan and the robot episode instead of this, though.VegettoEX wrote:That story happens to be the oldest news story I could find to archive back from 1998 when we combined sites.

I can see why they didn't, though. The robot episode and the dinosaur episode were basically the same. Not every episode on the set has eyecatchers, but some do.
Early on, they're the same as the Japanese, with the English logo and Doc Harris narrating. In the Namek arc, it's a bit more cartoony with Peter Kelamis narrating.
