Either people loved Future Trunks that much or they loved the idea of having a Black Goku as a main antagonist arc, either way that score is fcking impressive, this is the 1st time Super actually had a rating above 8 right? holy shiz.

I wonder if the rating will keep up and if it will spur more "Dark" arcs. Anyways it's amazing what a little advertisement and trailers can do! Congrats Super! :D

I didn't want to comment when some users were saying that they doubted Super was gonna exceed its 7.9 score, but I knew inside that this week was gonna be incredibly high. I predicted at least 8.0 and boy am I glad it even exceeded my expectations. Congratulations Toei

The only thing this shows us is that they should start taking Super more serious and suit it to modern times. Make the plot a bit more interesting, complicated and serious. I understand that DB is a kids show and it shall NEVER lose that gag/comedy element it has always had, but Toei should also realize that the vast majority of DB fans are young adults and teenagers. Most little kids are watching other shows. They should cater to their original audience, the ones who grew up watching DBZ and DB. Of course, with this, I'm not saying that DBS should turn into a dark, fucked up "Gantz" ish kind of series, but It would be nice for there to be some tension, high stakes and consecuences once in a while.

Jesus...and here I was thinking the best we might hope for is beating Conan again, but actually conquering four of the usual top six series is crazy! Good job, Super! Clearly everyone was super hyped for Trunks ^_^

It's doubtful that this high ranking will continue on a regular basis, though. The episode seemed pretty well received all around, but obviously the hype will have died down for at least some portion of the viewers, so I wouldn't be surprised if the rank falls next week (but hopefully not too far, maybe just a slight dip down to 4th or 5th place). Would be amazing if this arc turns out to be incredibly popular and Super stays up in the top 5, pushing down shows that have been on the air for decades.

I was right with the over 8.0 call, but wrong with beating One Piece. Even it was so close.
Super you will be at some point beating One Piece. If you are not using your humor wrong.

All the People over the internet are crazy. I bet that if Toriyama or Toei put Broly, Black Goku and Gohan fusing with Trunks in Supers next episode it will beat OP.

Majority of fanbase doesn't give a peep about a well written story. They want their favourite fantasy character.

When DBS ends, last week episode will probably be remembered as the one that made DBS stay closest to One Piece ratings. It's a shame One Piece had a nice week, it would have been nice to surpass it's ratings at least one time. I don't think DBS will ever create that hype again, sadly.

That is so unnecessarily negative. The show could go on for years, why would this be the only hyped or serious storyline? When the show stared people were all like: super will never have a serious storyline! Now the second storyline is serious, you are saying: it will never happen again! It is even quite possible that the climax of this storyline will be hyped, and who knows what future content will bring.

One piece had a good week *because of super* -- it isn't a shame, it means Super is doing its job and bringing in more revenue not just for itself but other toei properties.

Toei couldn't start with a 'dark' arc even if they wanted to since Toriyama wrote the Champa Saga which was purposely made lighthearted and fun, unless you're saying that they should've skipped it. Then you run into problems if the events of Champa Saga tie closely into the Future Trunks Saga. Also, fan favorite character returns plus an evil version of the main character was going to get high ratings.

That said, this is beyond what I expected. Didn't expect it to smash the first episode ratings.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

Holy shit 8.4!! One Piece almost got raped by its lead-in.
I have been dreaming with the day we would finally hit the 8.0 mark, and here it is. We even surpassedi t.

Almost celebrating 1year since Super debut, we've come long way since the polemic episode 5.
The ratings are getting higher, the prodcution is getting better, and we finally having our first dark arc. Most people desperately needed this tone shift.

I doubt it will remain in 8.0, but this is still a milestone.
The lack of spoilers, the return of a popular character, and Goku the G.O.A.T. being the villain made a deadly combo.

Super's future is brighter than ever fellas. Bring the beer.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Wow! A record high to Super, almost beating One Piece. Way to go!
HOLY CRAP

That is completely insane. I didn't expect this at all

Hey don't knock Sazae-san. That's been a national treasure for Japan far longer than OP or DB

Sazae airs on primetime, like most shows from the top 10. Airing at 9am, that would be an incredibly difficult feat for Super.

But..starting from October, Super will have an anime lead-in, the upcoming Monster Hunter anime. It's gonna be an interesting time..

At this rate, the show could go on for so long that people will barely remember this week.
