Damn, that's a real shame. I wonder if they're just going to reanimate pivotal moments of each member's recruitment. Bleh. What a shame.Lord Beerus wrote:One Piece is going to get 10 "Big Projects" for 20th anniversary of the manga. Keep an eye out for this, because if some of "projects" are anime related, this won't spell well for Super's chances of expanding the pool of animator for them to choose from. Because we all know One Piece, along with PreCure (and most recently Tiger Mask W), regularly get the pick of litter when it comes to animators under Toei's umbrella.

It doesn't confirm that any of those projects are animation related.Yomi wrote: Damn, that's a real shame. I wonder if they're just going to reanimate pivotal moments of each member's recruitment. Bleh. What a shame.
The upcoming 2 hour special is probably already one of those 10 though.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 93
The special is probably the only thing animation-related. The rest will certainly be novels, databook, stage shows, festivals and the likes. They tend to overplay this kind of announcement.
And the show most affected by any extra OP animation is OP itself, really.

actually i'd say he'll do a normal episode again by himself but it will be earth related about trunks and goten in the island and yamcha goes to helpPsykomatik wrote:I’m pretty sure they’re gonna use Yashima as a key animator for the entire Tournament of Power, like Higashide: Drawing cuts and get corrected. Speaking of Higashide, what do you guys think he is working on, if anything at all? Do you think he has been working on the tournament for the past few weeks and that is why he has been appearing much less often? Or is he working on another project I just don't know about?Psykomatik wrote:I’m pretty sure they’re gonna use Yashima as a key animator for the entire Tournament of Power, like Higashide: Drawing cuts and get corrected. Seeing how Kitano was chosen as a supervisor despite his ugly art and guys like Jin Inaba and even Higashide who is really fast and always on model isn't AS makes me wonder how does this process happens and who handles choosing animation supervisor ?

Someone like Higashide is better off as a key animator. If he was a supervisor, he'd have less time to animate cuts, and while he isn't as vital anymore as he was in the FT arc, he's still a big contributing factor as to why the production is as good as it is.Nasryyy wrote:Seeing how Kitano was chosen as a supervisor despite his ugly art and guys like Jin Inaba and even Higashide who is really fast and always on model isn't AS makes me wonder how does this process happens and who handles choosing animation supervisor ?
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 93
Being a supervisor requires a lot of you. Not just anyone with a bit of talent can take on the job.
You can't just be a decent artist and animator in your own right, you need to be able to look at other people's animation, understand their intentions, ascertain the issues with it, and either convey those to the animator in a way that's easy to understand, or correct them without overwriting critical idiosyncrasies.
You have to know the model sheets inside and out, or at least have your own style solidified in your mind, so that you can alter other people's work consistently and efficiently.
Most critically, you have to be remarkably fast. For every single episode, you're required to look through and approve the drawings of everyone on the episode. If you're also animating, then that's a heck of a lot of work to get done.
We know and love Naotoshi Shida, and appreciate his unbelievable talents, but he himself has gone on record in the past to say that he'd be an absolutely awful supervisor. In his own words, he's "too slow and doesn't have the necessary skillset".
I may not like Tadayoshi Yamamuro's art much or appreciate his approach to supervision, but what he does is certainly remarkable in its own way. It's not too surprising that some other animators look up to him.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 93
Quick prediction for today's episode, I think the first half will be Kitano and there will be little to no action in it, the majority (or all) of the action will come from Nii and his guys in the second half.
Also, I'm really curious about the end ED, I wonder if it's going to be another solo job from Yamamuro.
Also good work on the new video Ajay.

I imagine we'll get some Higashide, but going off of that preview I don't really get the sense that we'll get much in the way of not-painful animation, unless those cuts were all sacrificed cuts.

Outside of the explosions in the stare down most of the NEP looked pretty solid. Lots of movement and pretty solid art throughout.JulieYBM wrote:I imagine we'll get some Higashide, but going off of that preview I don't really get the sense that we'll get much in the way of not-painful animation, unless those cuts were all sacrificed cuts.

So, i may have found Hirotaka Nii's "style". I watched Ajay's videos, but surprisingly it didn't cover his effects works, so I went back looking at the NEP:

And those effects perfectly matches the beginning of the opening:

Higashide is one of those guys I would never make a Supervisor, unless he really wanted. He's fast and talented. He born to work on DBS.KameNinja45 wrote:Someone like Higashide is better off as a key animator. A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Tu has only done 2nd KA these past few weeks with 93 being the last time he's animated. I wonder when he'll pop up as an animator again.
My guess is 98.

That was a good looking episode. Action was serviceable and artstyle remained strong throughout. I'm certain they reused animation from episode 85 in this. In particular, this cut.
EDIT: Also spotted some reused animation in the NEP too.

A solid start, lots of reused animation though, even in the NEP. I don't know if the large amounts of reused animation should get me excited or worried... I'm just going to go with excited for now.
I'm hoping the reuse of animation is simply a smart way to give animators more time on more important episodes.
