I am not trying to be insulting. I'm just stating my observation.
rereboy wrote: I don't think this style portrays the tension and seriousness of the situation as well as the previous style, as a typical Disney style would also portray it worse than some other comic style that uses a more serious tone in its art.
Which is why I said what I said. You don't find this as serious as the previous art. For you for it to be serious the characters have to have the angry eyes (in other words, exaggerated angry facial expressions of Shônen manga overall). If the tension disappears for you just because of the style change, and your interpretation is that it's not "as serious", then I'd say that I'll have to stick to above said statement that insulted you.
rereboy wrote: If you don't like what I'm saying that's your problem.
It's not that I don't like what your saying. I'm just saying that your reasons to why you think so aren't that founded~

rereboy wrote: I look at this and I can't help but to find it funny and chuckle a little, in what is supposed to be a very serious scene full of tension between the two brothers:

I find it odd that you don`t think so.
I find it odd that you find an expression of nonchalance (which was existing in the previous pages as well) is funny, just because of a change of art. And also that you claim that it makes the tension to lessen.
rereboy wrote: Which is too bad since this fan manga was becoming my favorite fan manga out there due to its excellent dialog, perfect cinematic scenes, and the way it transmitted the tension (and a lot of more stuff) between the characters without needing a lot of dialog.
The dialog is still there, about the cinematic scenes, we don't know yet. It seems that it's pertained. So out of three likes, two are left, and the last one is...well you already know my opinion on that.
rereboy wrote: This change of style goes somewhat against what I like about the fan manga. Which is all I was saying... You Know... Before you decided I had a narrow window of emotional interpretation.
And I still stand by my word, and am not convinced otherwise yet.

Okay, let me be dead honest here because I'm not going to tip toe around anything. I don't like the new style. I understand that she's still working out the kinks and I understand that she probably deviated from Toriyama style to try something more of her own. But this new look at the moment does not work. The faces are just too goofy and odd looking for me to take the tension between Freeza and Coola seriously. It would look perfect for a gag comic but it's just not working for this kind of story (perhaps it's too early to tell).

As an artist I can get where DeadlyChestnut is coming from, you want to try something different instead of copying someone's style. I've been at that stage where I felt I had go for "my own look" as well and it's going to take a lot of trial and error before that happens. (Hell, I still don't believe I have a my own "style").

Right now the art is okay but I'm going to stick with this comic and hope that DeadlyChestnut will find a style that she's looking for and one that works.

In fact, no one can truly convince anyone of anything. The best anyone can do is offer their opinion and, when other people think about it, they may convince themselves that what was said is true or not, agreeing with it or not.
So, in truth, its impossible to convince someone of anything, which is why I don`t even try to do that, I just offer and express my opinion, trying to not disrespect anyone. If people convince themselves that what I`m saying is true and agree, all the better, if not, it doesn`t bother me.
People constantly miss this and this is a major factor in why there are endless arguments.

That being said, forgive me if I don`t appreciate statements saying that I have a "narrow window of emotional interpretation" just because I offered my opinion on an art style, which is, as an activity, completely subjective and has no right or wrong since one person can hate it and another can love it without either one of them being wrong or right.

And if you think that saying something like that to someone, just because that person expressed an opinion with which you don`t agree, is not disrespectful and is in fact an observation like any other, then you should really think about how any normal person would feel with that "observation" just because that person expressed a view on a particular art style without disrespecting anyone.

Yeah, I agree. In fact, you summarized what I was trying to say quite nicely.

Well, I don't really like it. Not sure what else to say. Except, Coola really does look like Frolo.

I don't like the new style either. The dialogue and tension is still great though, so I'll see if it gets better over time.

Chapter 2 - Page 9:

Gotta love big brother Cooler. :P

I'm going to have to admit...this art style is starting to grow on me a little, even though I still prefer the original art style she used. At least the story is still there.

As for the color:
DeadlyChestnut wrote:A day or two later than usual, but it's eventually here. And Image it's pretty colorful. (But don't get too used to it!)

Thank you everyone for your feedback on the previous page, be it positive or negative! No page before ever got that much attention and this was really encouraging. Image

Definitely much better with the color. She really is skilled as a color artist.

I still like the other drawing style better but thanks to the colors (which add detail and depth) and the fact that this page doesn't have expressions/proportions as odd as the last one, I like this new page much, much better.

She really should color all of her pages, even if it takes her much longer to release a single page. I mean, it just looks awesome with her colors.

This week it looks a lot better. Last week the facial expressions were a bit too exaggerated for my tastes.

The color helps. My biggest gripe with this panel is the top-right image of Freeza. He actually looks like he should be voiced by Linda Young...

As I thought, it held up. Nice new page.
I like how Cooler treats Freeza like trash. I would really like to see Freeza put Cooler down a notch.

HA! I love the dialog as usual. The colors are great and the art is... well my opinion about it hasn't changed. I just realized something, what would Vegeta look like in her new style? I guess I have to wait and see.

Wow, what a handsome devil! I believe that Deadly Chestnut posted some examples of the other characters in her own style. While I do miss how well she did with Toriyama's style, this is her fan comic so we might as well get used to it.

P.S. Here are the drawings I was talking about: link par excellance.

I'm warming to the art style a bit more now. I don't know whether it's because of the colour or that she's just improved, but Freeza and Coola don't look as bad as before. I'm interested to see how the other characters turn out (especially Vegeta).

Also, I love Coola's complete disdain for Freeza. There's some nice sibling rivalry going on there. :)

Wow. After about two months of forgetting this Manga even exists, I come back to this thread and find out that all the characters now have Down's syndrome. WTF?
