Oh, even after seeing it i didn't put it together. Thanks!
rereboy wrote:That is correct. But the color in the manga is not very consistent (even in the full color pages) because Toriyama seems to change his mind about the colors he wants to use fairly often.
And we should know Piccolo's name in volume 12, which I guess will be released in August.
Yeah, i noticed that Tenshinhan's clothes seem to change color in the same volume lol
So we're 3 volumes away then. Time goes by all too fast lol.
Well, they did say they're translating from the original, and they've kept it pretty faithful to it.....still crossing my fingers and looking away as it happens lol

Actually they said that they aren't translating from the original and the rights for the release were arranged by Viz. However, it seems that Viz is actually providing the portuguese team a more literal translation of the original than what they actually use in their own volumes, which allows the portuguese translation to be better in some aspects.

Well, from what i was told...

BD Editor wrote:Caro Leitor,
"Blah bidi blah"
Editora BD
Basically she explained that the reason Viz Media is mentioned on this release is NOT because that's the version they're adapting from, but due to the fact that Edições ASA aquired the rights to distribute the Dragon Ball manga in Portugal through Viz Media. She also stated that the version that they are using is indeed the original Japanese version, as published by Shueisha.
To which i simply replied with apreciating the response and enlightenment on the matter, and my desire to see this release continue.
*snip*
...and that's really all i know and can go off of. Did you get some other info saying otherwise?

Wow, I hadn't read that post. Had you posted it before? Anyway, that's pretty cool and it certainly explains things.
I was under the impression that they weren't translating from the original because the blog I usually go to for info is run by a guy with connections in ASA and that usually is right about what is talking about and he said that they probably wouldn't translate from the original.

Yeah, page 5. It sparked from the whole volume 2 issue. I had sent the email because of it and had a little insert about the translation (because of hoping it kept true to the original or something) and they sent it around. Certainly got me excited when i read it
Maybe he doesn't have access to info on who's actually doing it? I have to assume they wouldn't go to the trouble of responding to someone only to give incorrect information about their work

All we can do at this point is hope they don't take any naming schemes from the dub... (even Kami seems like a fairly big no-no in a way)

Volume 10 will be out June 15th (according to the Bongop blog).
It's called (what a surprise!) "O 22º Grande Torneio" ("The 22nd Great Tournment").

I have to wonder though, are the Vizbigs an attempt at replacing a possible kanzenban release?
(slightly off-topic, some Fnac stores seem to carry some french kanzenban volumes, which look great)
EDIT: By the way, i was checking volume 8 of the kanzenban...and Gohan's kamehameha is...pink? Why is that? (still in volume 8, Goku's against pilaf's machines is also pink. Volume 9, Kuririn's is colorless)
I guess i can also tie it in with why does Goku's dogi go from orange to red in the same chapter (kanzenban 9 against Tenshinhan)?
I think they'd still censor the nipples or something. I mean Viz censored the crap outta Bastard!! and it had a disclaimer on the cover. It seems that they just can't stand cartoon nudity despite how offensive some of the gore in Bastard!! is in comparison.
Same thing here, you've got Vegeta slicing off Guido's head and impaling Zarbon but they edit naked Bulma. I doubt we'll ever get a completely unedited manga of Dragon Ball in america. Mainstream comics/cartoons in america are seen as something that should be as "kid friendly"(soccer mom friendly) as possible.

Soccer-mom friendly? Instead of censoring the hell out of it, they should just not let their kids read it. I understand censoring it if it was a straight up sex scene, but this really isn't
too bad. I actually would censor the "Roshi looking at Bulma" scene, but stuff like the Yamcha seeing Bulma naked scene should stay unedited because Yamcha's genuinely shocked and his head covers Bulma from the waist down.

Volume 11 will be out July 6th (according to the Mediabooks site).
It's called "O Grande Desafio do Torneio" ("The Tournment's Great Challenge").
Next volume we'll know if our favourite Namekian will be named Piccolo or Coraçãozinho de Satã (Satan's Little Heart).

Honestly, at this point, i don't have much of a doubt that we're getting Piccolo........Kami and Hercule (especially that one) is what we can potentially worry about.
While we've been talking about Viz and censorship, Bakuman volume 5 came out. It's from Viz. It has "hot shit" and "bitching" in it. (and while they were totally appropriate given the moment and context...it still made me check the spine for the Viz logo lol)

At this point, i guess this is both a double post AND a necropost, so.......sorry
1 - Rereboy, where are your review of volumes 10 and 11? Same as 9 or anything to add? ('cause i don't have any other version to compare lol)
2 - What the hell happened with volume 12?! Are they taking a summer break or something? Yu-Gi-Oh volume 7 has just been announced but no DB 12
...That is all lol.

I haven't bought them yet, so I can't review them. I've been very busy. When I buy them, I'll review them.
As for Volume 12, its simply not on the website yet. Yu-gi-oh! volume 7 is already there but its not at stores yet, so I guess they simply haven't put it online yet.

No problem, it just seemed weird that you went silent on the thread lol
And yeah, it was mostly because it's been kinda at least 2 months since volume 11 lol....and i really want them to do the whole thing

Yeah, the listing for it was up two weeks ago and it's already out (just finished reading it, actually).
I've actually asked them through facebook, but never got a reply....email it is, then. 2 months with no new volume though :S
