Does anyone else dislike how Toriyama used Future Trunks

Gohan doesn't have to love fighting to have the will to fight Cell, and he's ridiculously naive if he thinks Cell would do anything other than luagh at his desire not to fight.

Not the same circumstance as Cell firing a Kamehameha. There's literally nothing he could do. He couldn't fight Cell, or he'd self destruct and he couldn't fly him away. There was no way to put up a fight.

Goku still found something to do. Both of them looked hopeless, but Goku found a way. Gohan gave up in both. We, as the viewer, are the ones who know that something can be done, but from Gohan's perspective what is the difference?
