It's possible that the Ki blast went quickly inside the planet & destroyed it. We've seen extremely fast ki blasts, like this:
The Monkey King wrote:And as shown by Freeza if you try and destroy the planet by just destroying it's core you'll have to wait 5 minutes for it to blow up
I personally believe that by destroying the core destroys the planet after some time (like 5 minutes for Namek), but by destroying the core with much greater power, the planet explodes instantly.
The Monkey King wrote:Also Cell's Kamehameha showed no signs of going anywhere near the Earth's core yet Goku was still worried that it would destroy the Earth
Cell fired a much stronger Kamehameha at the same position, and Gohan countered it with his own Kamehameha, and after an even clash, Gohan defeated Cell, and no planet exploded. So, Goku was just being cautious.
The Monkey King wrote:How do you explain DBZ characters destroying completely solid celestial objects like the moon?
Kamehameha dives into the Moon's solid core, the Kamehameha explodes violently from the inside, and the moon gets destroyed.

Extra: As for destroying a solar system (I believe that Cell could do it), you destroy the Solar System's "core", which is the Sun, and the Supernova that is produced takes all of the planets around it into the explosion, destroying them.

But I don't believe that anyone so far (neither Whis or SS4 Gogeta) can destroy a galaxy with a single attack. Broli destroyed the South Galaxy after time, not with one attack.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Physics can explain how getting bit by a spider gives you super powers? Or how a green ring can let you create things with your mind?
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

They actually can. They are Science Fiction explanations however.

The spider was hit by a radioactive ray which, in a one in a million fluke, caused the spider to mutate in a very particular way. Peter Parker, by being bitten by that spider, had some of that mutation transfered to him, which rewrote his dna, like some kind of a genetic virus.

As for the green lantern ring, they are devices created by aliens who are billions of years old. Their technology is millions of years ahead of ours. It can read the user thoughts and use its particular energy to create out of that energy what the user is visualizing. Like a computer able to read the user's brainwaves and create solid holograms.

Marvel and DC usually have those kind of science fiction explanations. Dragon Ball hardly bothers with that.

But those explanations are still just fantasy/pseudoscience. Not real physics.

That is why its fiction.

Dragon Ball is also fiction, but it doesn't even bother to come up with pseudo-scientific explanations most of the time. You think that the author cared about any kind of scientific explanation for why the moon blowing up doesn't cause any relevant damage on Earth for example?

Did it even matter? If it has no importance to the plot then it doesn't need explanation
