It's definitely an all-around better score, and I certainly don't mind the arrangements compared with what came before...
But this still isn't
Dragon Ball to me. Some of the jazzy pieces sorta kinda approach it, but only in the way that Yamamoto/Tower of Power compositions only kinda approach the same thing, except now it's by proxy two generations back.
I still feel like I'm watching someone else's interpretation of
Dragon Ball, rather than actual
Dragon Ball. And in many ways, that's exactly what it is, so I can't entirely fault them for delivering a thing that is the thing it's supposed to be.
I still keep thinking back to some of those tracks in little ol'
Dragon Ball Fusions on 3DS, though. In all my years involved with this franchise,
that was the only experience where my jaw dropped and this unbelievable joy just swelled up. THAT was
Dragon Ball music, and it's crazy that a portable video game was the thing to do it, rather than the actual animated product.
