I've posted this thought elsewhere - but is relevant here, too. I am becoming more and more convinced that the personality-free obstacle that is Jiren is genetically engineered or something. Am willing to wager that he was quite strong in the first place and Belmond has transferred his power to Jiren. This could go some way toward explaining Jiren being stronger than some of the GoD's and being able to use Ultra Instinct (or something similar to it). Belmond also seems confident to the point of being absolutely convinced Jiren can't lose.avasatu wrote:That's fair. It's not the same sort of ego, though. It's kind of the opposite, in fact. Jiren is not bloodlusted with his pride, which makes it far more tolerable in my view. That said, it will inevitably be his downfall. What we really need to know is WHY Jiren is so disengaged from the tournament. I suspect we will get that answer before the end, and, depending on what that answer is, it will answer a lot of these questions.fadeddreams5 wrote:Jiren is literally doing that in the latest episode by "meditating" because the other fighters are not worth his time. He gave eye contact to a weakened Goku, knowing Goku has a potential that can threaten him, and ignored him. Jiren is probably the WORST case of ego we've seen in a while, given the stakes of this tournament. He can eliminate everyone in an instant, but decides to sit around and, dare I say, drag things out.avasatu wrote:
I think he's just that fast. "He's just plain strong." I like that about Jiren. No tricks. A plain strong warrior. We haven't had that ever in this show. All the villains are too busy torturing the protagonists and letting ego get in the way, dragging things out. I find Jiren a huge breath of fresh air.
It might also explain his 'disengagement' too.
And Belmond wants to retire* so.....
*and yes, I know it was indicated that he'd chosen Toppo as a successor, but that could easily be a tactic to throw everyone off the scent.
