Justin Chatwin and James Marsters to star in live-action DBZ

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Hollywood movies have always place for celebrities of course which I deadly don't want in DBZ.
Hollywood always make a cheap trivial and unavoidable scenes...
Hollywood always connect everything with propaganda and commercialism.
Hollywood SUCK!!!
And one of the objective reasons why LAM can not be good to me is because live action can NEVER be like anime, becasue DBZ have a visual style(best and most unique in the world btw :D) and live action movies are of course reality and they suck to me. No matter even if they try it by 3D or mask or somehow they will just ruin it, why just Japanese don't make something like FFAC instead of this, where style will remain the same and it will be visually closer to reality in the same time.

This cast is pooooor to me, but at least it is better than case where some celebrities star as Goku or Piccolo, or maybe these guys ARE celebrities? I am not so familiar with it, but I can tell I am getting sick of their look when I just imagine GOKU's GI on it.

For the end I will quote myself long ago when I first heard about this nightmare idea of DBZ lam:
"WHAT!? NOOO WAY, IMAGINE BRAD PITT DOING KAMEHAMEHA!!! IF I EVER SEE SOMETHING LIKE THAT, I AM GOING TO KILL MY SELF, SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Now see? That's what I'm talking about! You fleshed out your post by addressing the problems you have with the movie. That wasn't too hard, was it? :P

Personally, I'd still like to keep some hope for the movie though... But if it sucks, oh well... No big deal? XD

I would suggest taking a breather. If it sucks, don't watch it. It shouldn't impact your fandom (or your health). And hell, there's an offside chance it might be halfway decent.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

I hear what you're saying, but despite all that, we managed to get a really faithful movie for Transformers, and Ninja Turtles recently, classic 80s cartoons. Hell, it's my understanding that Transformners' good sales is what finally put DBZ into production, Fox wants to copy Tramsformers' sucess. It's not IMPOSSIBLE for Hollywood to do this right (Again, see Transformers, TMNT, heck even Narnia and Lord of the rings) - its just not too likely (see ALSO sadly, X Men 3).

Hehe, sorry if I went a bit overboard but your reaction had DBZ Movie title written all over it x-x. Glad I didn't hurt your feelings though, I was half afraid I would but god it hit my funny bone hard. I can't take credit for the image though, just yanked it from google image search.

Any chance of picking a single thread for the movie discussion? Not entirely sure why news pertaining to the Dragonball movie wasn't put in the 'Dragonball movie has news' thread in the first place, but having both of them is getting annoying to me. :)

@Onikage725
thank you on suggestion :D but unfortunately it won't work on me.
Also I already said that there is almost no chance that this movie can turn out good to me. Even if Japanese would make it, it would be bad(but at least it wouldn't be just another hollywood commercial crap - which is killing me the most)

@laserkid
It's ok about the picture of course :D

And I am exactly afraid of something like Transformers!
I admit action and effects are pretty awesome(though I am sure Japanese would do even better), but maaaan!
Story!?
Main charracters!?!?
Then some classic unavoidable scenes with them, and their comments that have connection more with bengal worms than with Transformers!
It really reminds me more on some stupid teenage movie than on Transformers.
Let me make this shorter: If they would remove those two(That boy and that girl) and all scenes with them, and if main character would be that soldier on the beginning of the movie, than it would be completely awesome movie.

For other movies I am not sure because I didn't watch them except LOTR and I can say it is globally OK movie.

But live action is just not for DBZ, and I will still fight against it even if I am all alone.

DBZ movie 14 YES!
DBZ lam NO!
:D

Transformers was awesome. It's probably the biggest thing to happen to the franchise since the 198o-something movie. People have no excuse for being bitchy and unsatisfied about it, when it was known for a long time it would take the "humans' POV" angle to it.

If DragonBall gets half the treatment Transformers got, then this movie will far exceed mine and most everyone here's expectations.

Amen to that. And uh the soldiers were never going to be the point of view human side. Look at the 1980s show Spike witwicky was jsut an ordinary kid. Sam Witwicky was too in the movie, so it fit well.

Right. I may not be a big Transformers fan, but from what I've come to understand, Transformers without the Witwickys is apparently like early DragonBall without Bulma.

I loved transformers. My only complaint was not enough robots. Yeah show it from human POV but we got very few personalities shown the only ones we saw were

Megatron
Prime
Bumblebee
Starscream (due to him been one of the planes that shot down megatron)

the others had no personality or were just forgettable.

I know it won't but I would like either batman begins or X-men approach to this. Both = more realistic than comic but are good films.

And just why soldiers can never be the point of human side? is there some rule for it? Why should anyone ever abide by the rules of hollywood movies even if they exist?
I said - it would be better to me, I didn't said for someone else.

Also I absolutely agree that this is definitely most successful and one of the rare Hollywood movies that I like, BUT think about it, if I said so much bad things about it, and in the same time I said it is my best hollywood movie, then think, what is hollywood in my eyes? :D
I still think that movie would be +80% better without those two, and I am still getting sick of seeing them in any scene.
they sooo don't suit to Transformers, but that's just my opinion.

Action and effects are really awesome, I can not say one bad word about it...which is true rarity.

It suits Transformers becase THATS how the Transformers mythos works. IF they HAD done it from the military perspective it WOULD be more like the hollywood tripe you say you don't like xD

Transformers back to it's very inception has been about the robots, and of people who arent anything special but rise to the occasion.

I liked Transformers. And now that I think of it, can any of you guys think of tv shows-turned movies aside from Fugitive and Scooby 2 that weren't parodies of the show they were based on?

Well, look on the bright side. At least it's not Dragon Ball: The Musical starring Angela Lansbury as Freeza.

You know, with Ryo Horikawa, Shigeru Chiba, and Masako Nozawa's singing skills, an animated Dragon Ball musical could actually prove to be hilarious if done right.

It'd be like "Vegeta's Cooking Hell", only with a bigger cast. X3
On hiatus.

Than why those two!? Robots are focus, and they should not connect people with it so much, especially not to set them as a main characters and focus on them, like they did.

Miami Vice. Would Masters of the Universe count? TMNT (kinda drew from comic and cartoon).

Well that is the series though. Except for Beast Wars, they tend to have a couple of human sidekicks hanging around. Human military isn't really a factor. I'm not attacking your right to have enjoyed the military scenes (I did too), I'm just saying that the two kid sidekicks angle wasn't out of place. Even the classic animated movie had Danielle (Spike's son) all over the place.

Forgot about Miami Vice. Was thinking how the majority like Addams Family and Brady Bunch movies were parodies. And yeah, there are the human sidekicks in Transformers. Hell, look at Armada, Energon, Cyberton and Robots in Disguise. All had sidekicks at the forefront.

Heh, usually I hate the addition of kid sidekicks. US Darkstalkers cartoon. Sonic X. TMNT Fast Forward. Etc.

But Shia and Megan are more my age as actors (actually both about 2 and a half years my junior), and their characters were somewhere mid high school. So they didn't irritate me as much as the pre-teen tag-alongs tend to.

I'm not being cruel. ^_^;
A musical short--if animated by Toei for comedic purposes--could be pretty funny.

Hasn't anyone ever wanted to see what "Vegeta's Cooking Hell" would look like animated? He, Bulma, and Trunks all dressed up Iron Chef style?
On hiatus.
