Brazilian journalist received confirmation from Bandai Namco that the roster in the west won't include every character seen in Japan.
Hm, this was unfortunately to be expected.

I wish they'd release Battle Stadium D.O.N HD with online play because it's entirely possible now right? Bandai Namco has the rights to all three series on the game (DBZ, Naruto, One Piece) so that's something they should remaster for their fanbase. It's pretty much Super Smash Bros. with anime characters that people have always wanted.

Can anyone translate the relevant portion of this? My Portuguese is a bit lacking.

Por causa de questões de licenciamento, a Bandai Namco diz que alguns personagens que estavam na versão japonesa podem ficar de fora da ocidental, mas ainda não esclarece quais.

Due to licensing issues, Bandai Namco has stated that not all of the Japanese release characters may be seen internationally, though they didn't specify who could be cut.

Well, as much as I am against shooting the messenger, if Kenshin and co. are not in this game....

Why of all things would it be Kenshin? I expect, unless someone's holding their licensed series hardcore ala Voltron and Robotech, that it will be more likely to be something obscure and Japan-only.

I dunno, but Kenshin and Dragon Ball are really the only franchises in this game I care about. This, combined with my total and complete lack of knowledge about licensing issues concerning any of these franchises lead to my concern.

Plus, it gave me an excuse to link to a Star Wars clip.

I don't know how licensing works but for Europe the company LNK Internacional has the rights to Kochikame's series (Ryo) so if that's something then maybe Ryo will stay intact.

There's the basketball dude which I don't remember ever being broadcast in Spain/Portugal nor if LNK Int. ever dubbed it.

I expect and hope that any series not represented in the western version of the game will be relatively obscure series that have no real presence over here. I guess we'll find out once the roster is revealed.

(If Bo-Bobo and/or Arale are excluded, I'm'a be PISSED.)

I doubt anything that was already released overseas will be cut from J-Stars+. It'll probably be Saiki, the Sakigake! Otokojuku characters, Luckyman, and the atrocity that is Taro that won't make it and not much else.

Count me among those that really don't want to see anyone cut, but if we must lose anyone, let it be a few obscure characters from titles that haven't really been brought over here. Though there's a few characters from those that, just by reputation, I don't want to lose either...namely the cop from Kochikame.

Since this is a '+' though, and I don't think we'd had that in the title before, any chance that perhaps we'll be getting a few new characters to make up for the missing roster? That said, it's going to suck if we don't get the story mode and just get a generic arcade mode though...

Come to think of it, doesn't every playable and support character appear in the game's opening? Gah, I hope we don't lose that too...cuz I love that opening.

I just want DBZ, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Toriko, and Dr. Slump in it.

J-Stars Victory Vs+ Will Have Japanese Voiceovers

Should have been expected given the teaser trailer was in Japanese but having it dubbed would have been awesome.

I can just imagine the amount of Dragon Ball Z fans who are going to mute the TV when playing as Goku. :P

That's really what Crapcom would call their Basic edition since it only has the ones that are (somewhat) popular because in an overall it'd be missing a lot of them.

Ryo, Kenshin, Yusuke and Seiya all need to be in this game more so than characters from Bleach or Toriko since they're far more important and fun to play with.

As long as they keep Sket Dance and Medaka Box, I'm ok.

But I'm not gonna play as any of those you mentioned. Which is why I only care about those I mentioned.

Just wanted to make one thing clear. While Super Saiyan Prime's translation is pretty good, he forgot to translate one very important word (the one in bold). The original Brazilian text does not say that not all of the characters will be available, it says not all of them MAY be available. Licensing may still come into play, but they may pull a lazy one and just leave them all in just so they won't have as much trouble. Just hope the Arcade Mode isn't indeed a mere substitute for the original Story Mode.

Then again, the wording may just be them trying to sugarcoat it.

It's not actually Brazilian, it's Portuguese of Brazil. Brazil doesn't have its own language.

The text is Brazilian, no one said it was written in Brazilian.
