Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 93
I was wondering, couldn't animators touch up a little the bank animation they are using? I know they can touch up the art, but I was thinking if it's possible to just change some bits here and there in a cut, like adding more movement, new effects etc... to make bank animation a little more interesting.
By the way, I prefer to see the characters talking and the stare-downs than to look at thr same cut over and over like Kale's transformation, which I hope won't be re-used.

Something else i've been noticing in this episode is that Frieza looks really off model most of the time. His face isn't supposed to be so rough, his brows are protuberant when they aren't supposed to and he looks shorter than normal.

They could, but they probably want the maximum amount of gain from using bank or something.emperior wrote:I was wondering, couldn't animators touch up a little the bank animation they are using? I spotted in the Bergamo vs Goku fight (episode not op) where the camera spins that Goku's hair are redrawn on their base and improved compare to the original.emperior wrote:I was wondering, couldn't animators touch up a little the bank animation they are using? It got real bad, when he walked away from the group with his prominent brows and then when he looked to the side it was normal, good old Freeza.Hit!! wrote:Something else i've been noticing in this episode is that Frieza looks really off model most of the time. It appears that I was wrong. The video I watched had a little delay between the scenes so I saw the hair in the first image and ignored the body. Now that you mention it, he looked pretty bad in the OP too, didn't he? I figured they'd recompose the shots he appeared in, but he seems to have just been tacked on top of what's already there. His proportions in the part of the OP where everyone's walking together don't seem right, either. I don't particularly mind, he's had some bad moments, but nothing that breaks immersion in itself, it just seems odd that they seem to be struggling with him.Hit!! wrote:Something else i've been noticing in this episode is that Frieza looks really off model most of the time. Yeah, he just seems thrown out in the OP. The composition of the title screen is ruined without Buu there and in the part where everybody is holding a Dragon Ball not only does he look like he's pasted there, but the way they make the ball just float in front of him is pretty bad.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Now that you mention it, he looked pretty bad in the OP too, didn't he? That is exactly what they did with one of the cuts, here is an eg from Ajay's video I noticed:emperior wrote:I was wondering, couldn't animators touch up a little the bank animation they are using? The effect are a different colour, the shapes etc are different and the person shooting them is from a different angle also.

I'm not seeing why everyone is flipping out and losing their shit like this tournament is doomed.
This was a good looking episode. The only problem as everyone has pointed out, is that they re-used animation too much. It looks like they'll be doing it again next episode. Is this indicative of the quality we're going to get for the rest of the tournament? I highly doubt it. As someone else said, I would much rather have re-used scenes than a bunch of garbage fights that look like they were done by a kindergartner. I don't think this is anything to flip out about yet. I can understand from an animator's perspective why this episode was disappointing, but to announce that the tournament is officially fucked as a result and all our hype was for nothing? Calm down.

There are other issues. Some of the choreography was very bland, the background effects look cheap and the pacing was weird. Not that I think the episode was horrible, just not a good way of opening the tournament.Asura wrote:I'm not seeing why everyone is flipping out and losing their shit like this tournament is doomed.

-Episode 97-
I actually saw some people complaining about bank animation before I watch the episode and I kinda got worried about it. I forgot how dramatic this fanbase can be. My bad!
The reactions are giving me episode 90 (Goku vs Gohan) vibes, where few people were disappoiting because they somehow had higher expecations, but It was well received by the majority of the fanbase including me.
I like how they started the Tournament and the bank animation didn't bother me. I think most of us know it's a smart move, and as long as the whole Tournament is not full of it it's okay for me.
It also makes obvious how much better Nagamine/Ryota are as Directors than Chioka ever was. If Chioka was smarter he would have done the same for Champa's Tournament when the Opening got updated with the U6 fighters. It would be helpful, especially considering how much worse the schedule was back then, but no and thanks to that Goku vs Botamo in the manga seems like it has more "animation" than the mess version that was in the anime.
Next episode they will reuse Goku vs Bergamo from the Opening, and I'm expecting they will reuse Goku vs Jiren and Vegeta vs Ribrianne too later. There's no point in not using those cuts, they look great and are helpful to them.
New Ending art looks awesome, but it's Yamamuro and I love his style so no surprise. Just get rid of the stupid highlights on characters bodies.
- Staff Twitters -
I've been saying this since the beginning but I will say it again, staff twitters should not be publicly shared between the fanbase. Anyone retweets whatever they want in their twitter, what I mean is outside of it. There should be a rule that forbids the sharing of Staff social media pages in this forum, like there is one for illegal scans. Even in this thread because anyone can see it.
Insulting staff is a big deal and it may have big impacts on their will to work on the show. Worse than have schedule problems, only have stupid people keeping away animators.
Of course it needs to reach a break point for something like this to happen, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.
Right now we have threads being created based in Staff tweets "DBS writer confirms blablabla". Their subject could not be more unnecessary (both are about power levels, figures) because some people can't think by themselves and need all the answers given to them.
With their twitters being thrown around like that and then reach sites like youtube and facebook, one must be really naive to not see stuff like this coming.
I just went now to one of the writers twitters and from what I saw he has always people trying to take every bit of information they can from him. Only because they are nice and reachable, doesn't mean the fans should bother them like that.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 93
Honestly, i'm glad i kept my expectations low, so i wasn't that much dissapointed. In fact, i was fearing a drop in quality ala #33 (i didn't like the effects on the NEP and there was a Goku shot that really bothered me).
The episode was nothing special (hell the plot didn't even move that much). I'm not really bothered by the bank animation, as (while it could be easily noticed), it felt natural to me, like Basil moving on the same way to use his signature move. But i gotta say that it was kinda annoying when that Basil shot was reused two times in a row (yeah he used it again later but at least after doing something different first).
The effects were not special as well, but at least they conveyed well the freaking mess that this battle royale really is, so i'm satisfied.
The art was strong imo, so that's nice and the highlight of the ep was good.
Love the new ending, that Goku/Gohan shot was fantastic and my opinion on the NEP is really mixed. It bothers me the fact that the whole thing it's just reused animation but, Toei uses to hide the good stuff for the actual episode so i don't know what to actually expect.
This was allright, thought i can get the complaints about this kinda weak start. If i'm not that annoyed about it it's because i'm confident we'll see great stuff later and because this episode was not that important (besides being the start of the battle).

Ok so i've noticed that the reused animation topic has become widespread on the internet and the DB community. But what i find interesting is that most people really don't mind, AT ALL!! Most people really enjoyed the episode, even after knowing that a great chunk of the animation was recycled from previous episodes.
So that means this episode was a success and served it's purpose. Toei wanted to avoid an episode 5, 24 or 33 situation, so they did what they had to do in order to maintain a standard quality and avoid a jarring drop in quality for the first few episodes of the tournament.
I wish they did this more often, but at the same time, not as blatant and excessive as how it was in episode 97 and how it looks like it's gonna be in the NEP. They just have master the technique and pull off a Disney.. Disney did this so much with many of their animated movies, but it was so subtle that you didn't notice it at all, unless someone put together a comparison video showing you the similarities.

For what it's worth the general sentiment I've seen is that people don't care about animation reuse as long as the quality doesn't drop. I've seen far more people pleased with the episode than displeased.Hit!! wrote:Ok so i've noticed that the reused animation topic has become widespread on the internet and the DB community. If they look cheap enough to take me and others out of the experience, they're not good enough. I don't think it's unfair to say that they haven't been blended properly and in general are cheap looking. Many speculated how they'd convey the feeling of a huge battle royale and in my opinion, this is an already questionable way of doing it.Amir wrote:You just said ''background effects look cheap'' but that's exactly why they're background effects. "Pacing" was a poor word choice. I just meant that the episode felt all over the place in general.

I agree with this a lot, it does feel sometimes that Kanzenshuu is just an extension social media at times, the admins made a brill choice locking episode thread titles until people have had time to digest the simulcast has gone a long way to fixing this. But what someone shares on social media should be kept there even like genga etc. Zack Snyder is an example of this, he has a twitter and vero account and he gets annoyed when people share what he posts on vero onto twitter if he wanted it on twitter he would have posted it there himself.FortuneSSJ wrote:- Staff Twitters -
