I did not draw this.

You know, a little part of me suspects that Toriyama is trolling us with SSJG. Instead of making him look stronger, he made him thinner with pink hair and pink "anime eyes". If someone would have proposed this as SSJG before it was done by Toriyama, they would have been laughed at.

Toriyama always does the opposite of expectations for the most part, he probably felt like it was too obvious to make him super decked out like SSJ3 so he went with skinny and chose a hair color few would probably have imagined.



A question for those who have seen the movie. Do they really pull off this ssj god thing or is it kind of lame?

I also expect there is some trolling with ssjg Goku's (cute) pink hair, big red irises, and slimmer body.

It's like in the same vein as Goku losing the Tenkaichi Budoukai twice. I could've sworn there was a Toriyama quote somewhere where he talks about trolling the audience (back before it was called trolling) in regards to reader expectations.

Yeah, I believe he said he would try to imagine what the fans would be expecting to happen, and then go in the opposite direction.

Going against audience expectations isn't trolling. It'd be trolling if he was doing it to upset people, but I doubt that's Toriyama's intent. Going against audience expectation is just a good way to avoid being predictable.

Before they announced SSJG, I was expecting Goku to get some sort of God power upgrade from the Shin-jin, and thought he would look the same as his base form, like Ultimate Gohan. No one took this idea seriously when I posted it, but it turned out to be pretty close to what they actually did.

From what I've seen it's pink when his flame aura's down and red when his flame aura's up. That's what I've been going with lately.
I've been merciless with the cute when it comes to drawing ssjg now that I know what it looks like; it's ridiculously fun for me because I really don't draw super-cute style that much. XD

I thought the power-up was going to come from the kaioshin too. The way ssjg is actually created is something I never would've imagined (hand-holding circle + pure hearts).

I remember seeing your energy ssjg Goku in this thread a while back! It was cool. :3

Now that I look back on mine, I do feel like he looks an awful lot like many of the other theorized ssjg art (I gave him gold eyes though?).
I'm even more off the mark in that I changed the clothes and absolutely nothing happened to Goku's gi in the real ssjg.




And then when the drawing on Toei's office door appeared, I thought it'd look like that (brown hair with ssj-golden streaks), and then after Kei described the hair as purple-red I drew ssjg Goku with violet hair until the screenshots appeared.

I noticed it only after I colored it in. XD
The only reason I didn't have the pupils be a different color is because then I felt I'd be copying ssj4 Goku's eyes.
I guess I could've made the pupils white now that I think of it, but it's too late now; I've retired this design in lieu of the actual ssjg form being revealed.

That's the ゴ/"go" from "goddo/god" ゴッド .
I figured since Goku's got the "go" kanji from "goku" on the front, I'd stick the katakana "go" from ssjg on the back. (Even though no one would see it because my theoretical ssjg Goku's hair is so long).

It's a type of design I never would've used if BOG hadn't been all "Here's Goku's new ssjg form; it's slimmer, has pink hair, and big red irises. Have at it!"

Just the blue shirt does look better. If the screenshots I've seen are anything to go by (well, he's missing his orange gi top in that one scene from the CM where Oolong's pulling Goku's hair), he will get to fight in ssjg that way.

Only briefly, if at all. Remember, Super Saiyan God wears off and he then fights in base and Super Saiyan. He still has most of his clothing in tact during the Super Saiyan scenes, so if we get to see it, it will be for the short burst he uses to stop Birus' sun attack...and even then, the damage may only be visible after smoke clears and the form has worn off again or something. You'd have to ask someone who was seen the film...

Oh, that makes me realise something. When I first saw Goku and Beers staring each other down in space I must have thought that was before the fighting started. Now I realise that it must have been after SSG wore off but before he turns Super Saiyan again. xD
