Wow, that Super Saiyan God Goku sure looks good! I hope they will give us an transformation cut for SSG's return!

The aura certainly looks better than what we got in the BOG arc, but I still prefer the flame-like aura we got in the movie itself.

Since this episode has been getting a lot flack for it's re-used animation, I thought it would be good to point out that the direction of this episode led to some decent, though not particularly note-worthy highlights.

I think I'm in agreement with everyone that the direction in this episode was a lot better than the animation.

I thought we already knew who was working on episode 104. Of course I'd love it if Shida was on that. I'm quite excited to see how SSG looks in Super's latest style where things don't look so shiny.
Shida is an animator, not a supervisor. We don't learn the animators from the episode listings.

If that is so, then do you think they'll be enough time for Shida to another cut in the ToP? If not then I wouldn't want it now especially since the Jiren stuff hasn't even kicked off yet, plus Goku's new form.

At the rate things are going this arc probably isn't going to end until late October or some time in November, so there would definitely be time for more Shida.

The recruitment arc started off incredibly slow too then one episode a whole bunch of hours went by like that so I don't really think we can trust the pacing, do you really think that Toei can really keep the tournament going for that long? I think it will be finished by the start of October by the latest.

The recruitment still went longer than most expected. I honestly think this arc is going to last to the end of October at the earliest, we'll see though.

Perhaps, there still is the Earth sub-plot too, so I guess when it comes to the point where Toei can't keep doing sole episodes dedicated to the ToP (more and more fighters drop out the less shortcuts they'll have) then they'll throw that in?

Judging by how slow the time is passing and how many fighters are still on the arena, I doubt Goku vs Jiren will happen before October.
Looks like those two will be the last ones standing, which means there will be more 5 Universes destroyed before we reach that point.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Well keep in mind that the tournament has currently run for 6 episodes (7 as of tomorrow) and more than half of the fighters are still in play. Then, assuming the ToP is the end game, we have to think about the final battle with Jiren, that should run for at least 2 episodes, if not more. If the one break in September is the last break until November then 112 would be the second to last episode of October and that would only be 8 episodes (and 9 weeks) after 104 and that would allow them to knock out the rest of the fighters and have a final battle with Jiren that lasts for more than 1 episode, it'd also be plenty of time for Shida to animate something for said battle. Personally though I still think it arc will go past 112 and I don't think it's going to outright end with the ToP.

Just out of curiousity, how do people think this tournament has been from an animation stand-point?

I think that all the episodes have been serviceable, though at times a little lacklustre, and I don't think we've seen a truly great episode from this tournament. Don't get me wrong, this tournament has definitely had it's share of impressive cuts and highlights, but on whole I think it's been extremely conservative.

For reference, here's all the noteable cuts and highlights that managed to get onto the booru.

Some of these shots reminds me of yamazaki hideki's episode 90, and what's wrong with that 3rd shot did vegeta and gohan swap Gis

The third shot is the only one that looks like Tate(reminds me of how Shida shades characters for some reason)to me. I think this is a good example of Tate following the character sheets too much, as is evidenced by his Vegeta looking Gohan, which was a problem with the character sheets.

I'd argue it would run for at least 3 episodes or more. Isn't that how long most of these big fights in Super's gone on for? Episode 106 is the 10th episode of the tournament (97-106) and that's in early September. Even if Goku VS Jiren is the last fight of this tournament, say it's like 4-5 episodes long. I don't see that happening until like late September/earl-mid October at the earliest. Even then, I see a few episodes taking place afterwards since like you, I don't see this saga ending with the ToP alone.

It's the widows peak that Gohan has. It's never been this angular before.

All the saiyans have exactly the same face when they're serious.. The only difference is their hair style, colour, etc. Now that Gohan has a similar hair style to Vegeta's hair style and added to that his seriousness, makes him look awefully lot like Vegeta.

Animation reuse was pretty annoying this episode. First half had be worried since it was so bland, but Tate really saved the day in that second half. His art could have been a bit more polished in places, but that movement was so damn fluid.
The art in the NEP looks nice, but yet again they didn't really show much in the way of action, which I guess is pretty standard for the NEPs these days.
